Palin is not that smart. she energized the base, big deal, the base was voting for McCain anyway. If they want to do better in 2012, they need to get someone better than she. Reagan had charisma, the people genuinely liked him, and he had good people around him to guide his economics.

NO ARGUMENT THERE!
Ronald Reagan was, perhaps, the most charismatic President that ANY OF US are old enough to remember.....not perhaps....he was.
He just wasn't smart, he wasn't politically astute. He was a puppet...chosen for his charisma.....so that Republicans could take advantage of the Cold War and get in bed with corporations wanting huge defense contracts.

PLEASE do not insult Ronnie by inferring that Palin is worthy of carrying his jock strap.
Palin LOST real Republicans... the educated, upper class vote. She is an embarassment. The core of the GOP is wealthy, educated, conservative and elitist. Trying to appeal to "Joe the plumber" was one of the most assinine plans, EVER. Why would Joe, a typical blue collar union guy, suddenly vote Republican, when his union ALWAYS endorses every Deomocrat, because Republicans are completely anti-union???
A Republican ticket with a "down to earth," "one of the little people" candidate will never fly. Republicans are old money, 4th generation war heros, legendary families steeped in tradition... there is a segment of "the masses" that they must play to, but it is the ruling class that gets elected.

My dad is a typical blue collar union guy who has never voted for a Democrat in his life. Some hard working people happen to think that they shouldn't have to "spread" their hard earned "wealth."

Laura, you're an ass. You're one of those dopes who think all Republicans look like they just stepped off of a piece of money.
In case you forget, there are just as many registered Republicans in this Country as Democrats, and they are not all "rich, 4th generation War Heroes...."
Some people in this country simply believe in honest values, hard work, keeping their money, and stopping the liberal trash.
Again, stop speaking for the party. I know more people who came out to vote for the ticket cause of Palin than left it cause of her. Are you calling these people I know idiots? Are you saying I hang with idiots? Well....I hang with you, so you got me on that one...I do.
So why have you claimed to be a Republican all along? To meet Republican men, cause thats where the money is?
Either that or I guess YOU'RE rich. And I suppose I am as well. Enlighten us!

Check this out....what an ass. Laura is probably a Maya Angelou fan. Angelou: Now I Don't Have To Apologize For America To My Euro Friends newsbusters.org/You might not be thrilled by the election of Barack Obama, but look on the bright side: it's made life a lot easier for Maya Angelou when she hangs out with her European friends. Asked by Andrea Mitchell during MSNBC's 1 PM hour what was going through her mind as the results rolled in, the poet mentioned, among other things:
I realized, almost within the minute, I don't have to apologize for my country when I'm abroad. I can say: "I belong to a great country." And the Europeans who say: aren't you glad to be here in France where we don't have the racism you live under? Aren't you glad you're here in Britain, where we don't have -- I mean, I've been on the defensive so long. This time I can say: "I am an American: look at us, look at what we've just achieved."

That shows you how little Grover knows. I'm not reading anything about Karl Rove. You don't get that people can come up with opinions on their own. Just because you're an Obama sheep and drank the koolaid, doesn't mean that everyone needs people to do their thinking for them.
Obama did run a center campaign. If you don't believe that, then you don't know what the center is. If he ran a leftist campaign, he wouldn't have got the nomination. He ran by hiding who he is, and the sheep believed it.
As for Reagan, he was no puppet. He was a genius who was a great communicator. Sometimes you have to give credit where it's due.
As for Palin, Laura's just jealous because she's not only brilliant, accomplished, articulate and popular, but also hot.
And Tom's right--Laura has no clue who the GOP demographic contains. Given that in 2000-2004, pretty much the entire center of the country voted GOP, and it's pretty safe to say that they are not old money fat cats, the description is just clueless.

YOU FUCKING JUST SAID HE'S GOING TO TURN IT INTO USSA, SAID ALL HIS VIEWS ARE SOCIALIST, NOW SAYING HE RAN A CENTER RIGHT CAMPAIGN? NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME HE HAD A HIDDEN AGENDA, AFTER SAYING THE THINGS HE WAS PUSHING DURING HIS RUN WAS SOCIALIST, NOW IT WASN'T SOCIALIST, BUT CENTER-RIGHT, BUT HE SECRETLY HAS SOCIALIST PLANS? I CAN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THIS VIEW CAME OUT JUST AS REPUBLICAN FAGGOTS LIKE ROVE AND NOVAK WERE SAYING THE SAME THING. HEY BALLS, THIS THIS IS A MANDATE? SURE IS, BECAUSE HE WON MORE ELECTORAL & POPULAR VOTES THAN BUSH DID IN 04, AND YOU SAID HE HAD A MANDATE THEN, AND WE HAVE AN EVEN BIGGER ONE NOW!!! GO PARROT CONSERVATIVE NEWS NERD!! YOU DIDN'T MENTION A SOCIALIST UNTIL THE NEWS SAID SO! YOU DIDN'T EVEN MENTION ONCE THAT HE WAS RUNNING A CENTER-RIGHT CAMPAIGN UNTIL TODAY, WHICH BY GOLLY SO HAPPENS TO BE WHEN MOST FAR RIGHT WACKOS SAID IT! AND YOU'RE CALLING ME A SHEEP?

"He was a genius who was a great communicator. Sometimes you have to give credit where it's due."
And it AIN'T here! Again, the stories, caricatures, TV skits lampooning his absent (absent in every sense of the word) mindedness were there for a reason...they were based in reality. Reagan's Vice-President was INFINITELY more intelligent than Reagan was.
What's this genius crap? The fucking moron who wears green suits with dollar signs all over it on infomercials is a great communicator. Crazy Eddie was charismatic.....neither are geniuses.
Reagan was an idiot, but a great unifying symbol. Reagan was to the Republican party what those cardboard cutouts of famous actors are to your local movie theater....a prop to serve as a lure to get you in the door.

You're actually going by stories and caricatures. That's like people not being able to tell the difference between Sarah Palin and Tina Fey.
Crazy Eddie and the Dollar Guy didn't bring down the USSR and cut your taxes either.
Reagan was no idiot. And the country prospered.
LOL @ Grover taking Obama at his word. Actions speak much louder, and Obama's RECORD is that of a liberal/socialist wacko. That's unelectable for President.

"Crazy Eddie and the Dollar Guy didn't bring down the USSR and cut your taxes either"
Neither did Reagan ... so again that puts him on par with those two dopes.
The USSR's own economic INFRAstructure brought down the USSR, and ANY economist worth his salt will tell you that. If anything, the Reagan Administration gets credit for speeding that process up by forcing them to compete with us defensively.
And as far as your claims of prosperity..HA! Farmers didn't prosper, auto-workers didn't prospers, union workers didn't prosper...the ONLY group that prospered under Reagan were defense contractors, and when his tax cuts left the government massively short of revenue, and the plug was pulled on all that defense spending, you saw the shit-storm of a financial mess that good ole Ronnie left for his pal George H. Bush to inherit. Prosperity my ass.

Ok, here are some numbers for Laura to crunch on.
Rasmussen, who was pretty spot-on with their polling throughout (and sure nailed it in the end) polled Republicans, and here is what they came up with.
Did Palin help or hurt the McCain campaign?
69% HELP 20% HURT
So there's one. Believe me, I read enough Conservative blogs and check enough "Republican sites" to see this is the going take.
And here's another one...mind you this is coming AFTER the election.
WHO WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE FOR THE NEXT REPUBLICAN NOMINEEE FOR PRESIDENT?
64% Palin 12% Huckabee 11% Romney 4% Jindal
So yeah, seems you are pretty out of touch with what the party is feeling right now, Laura, you political dope.

Well, Palin being the nominee is no surprise given that she's had so much spotlight.
But much more telling is the 69% who said she helped the ticket.

Well, Palin being the nominee is no surprise given that she's had so much spotlight.
But still, if she obstensibly "hurt the ticket" as Laura so bufoonishly claims, she would not have gotten that 64% to lead the ticket. These were Republicans polled, and obviously they are not unhappy with what she bought to the ticket after the fact.
If Palin was such a drag, no matter how much "spotlight" she got, she would not have still been in so much favor by members of her party.

No, this is the part where I blow off all the credit you will give Reagan for things he really had no part in.
I will give Reagan full credit for the: early 90s recession falsely blamed on George H. Bush, the monstrous deficit he created by pissing money into what might have been the most foolish defense idea in history at a time when we had nowhere near the technology to implement it, and Michael Jackson's penchant for boy-touching!

Giving Reagan credit for the early 90s recession is about as dumb as giving Clinton credit for the boom of the 90s. What you can give Reagan credit for is the downfall of the USSR for one thing.
And yes, sour grapes is a big reason some people are bitching about Palin.

The reason they lost the election is because more independents voted for Obama. She'd fail miserably as the "head of the ticket". For as many people as she energized, she turned away. She's dumb as a post and if the party plans on winning in 2012, they need to do better than she.

Sarah Palin's spokeswoman denies the wave of anonymous post-election criticism coming from some members of John McCain's campaign team.FOXNews.com Friday, November 07, 2008
Sarah Palin's allies are pushing back against a stream of accusations leaking out of John McCain's campaign that the Alaska governor was incompetent during the run-up to the election. One Palin aide called the charges "sickening." Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton on Friday denied reports that have surfaced since Election Day that there was tension between the vice presidential candidate and McCain's staff. They range from claims that Palin went on extensive spending sprees to accounts that campaign officials had serious doubts about her preparedness to to be vice president. Sources told FOX News, for instance, that Palin did not realize that Africa was a continent and not a country, and that she could not name the nations that had signed the North American Free Trade Agreement. Palin herself brushed off the finger-pointing Wednesday, saying she wouldn't engage "any of the negativity" or "pettiness" from anonymous sources. Stapleton released a written statement Friday calling the charges "unfortunate and, quite honestly, sickening." "The accusations we are hearing and reading are not true and since we deny all these anonymous allegations, there is nothing specific to which we will respond," she wrote. "We have the highest regards for Senator John McCain. Governor Palin was honored to be chosen as McCain's running mate." Newsweek also reported that Palin may have spent "tens of thousands" of dollars more on wardrobe expenses than the $150,000 that was reported in the days before Election Day. The money allegedly went toward clothes for her and her family from high-end stores, even though she was originally told to buy just three suits and hire a stylist for the Republican National Convention. One aide called the spree "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," according to the magazine. Palin also reportedly asked to speak at McCain's concession speech Tuesday, and was denied. McCain adviser Nicole Wallace defended Palin on NBC's "Today Show" Friday morning, saying the Alaska governor "did nothing wrong." "She is, perhaps, the most un-diva politician I've ever seen," she said. "The only thing I've ever seen her ask for is a diet soda." Palin said right after the election that she's sorry if she cost McCain even "one vote." But some are tired of what they say looks like scapegoating. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum told FOX News that McCain himself needs to come out and put a stop to the Palin criticism. "She's the one that energized the base
