anything with drawers from IKEA sucks. but i had a bed that lasted for years (and has been handed down and is still in great shape) as well as a few of the aforementioned bookcases and a few storage cubes.

Well...we're in. Quite the grind, but its wrapping to its conclusion. Now the UNPACKING starts. Ill have more on this tomorrow, in an effort to waste time at work.
Cho, the one I was looking at that was cheaper, $109 and holding a couple of hundred less, was some sort of titanium piping. Perhaps that is a more solid option?
While I want to put most of, if not all, our DVDs in one place, I am not interested in breaking the proverbial bank, when there are so many other expenses to incur.

Tom, basically anything that is NOT particle board is what you want. It's compressed sawdust and glue, literally, then laminated with some shitty vinyl wallpaper like crap printed to look like real lumber.
Particle board furniture upward of $100 baffles me. Particle board is such cheap, worthless stuff. I can't even tell you how many times I have assembled particle board crap for people only to have it permanently damaged during assembly due to a mis-aligned screw or dowel hole.
Ikea makes decent stuff for the price. IKEA sells a lot of particle board shit too....and that's what it is....shit.
But a lot of their furniture, like I said, is pine. Pine is a very soft wood and not a dense wood like oak, so pine furniture is certainly not build to last and become a family heirloom like some expensive oak pieces. I have a few pieces of IKEA pine furniture that aren't out in the open and visible in community areas of the house, and are firmly put together and have held up just fine for the past 4 or 5 years or so: a bed, a TV stand, a small dresser. They are sturdy, don't wobble, and especially don't chip or flat out break like particle board. But pine is highly susceptible to nicks and marks and doesn't hold it's appearance well for long. You can literally gouge a dent into your pine furniture with your finger nail without much effort. But again, WAY better than particle board.
Get the pine or the metal stuff if those are you inexpensive alternatives to that thing you posted.

Ill probably nab that one, then get a second one if it comes to it. I think I can fill it pretty damn fast....the other one appealed to me in monolith holding capabilities.

Still at it. Although I am home from work, I am working harder, as I would be sitting at my desk doing absolutely nothing on a day like today (and my company IS open, I am simply kicking off my vacation a day early)
Did the CDs today. Let me put it like this - I just wrapped up, and was at it for nearly TWO HOURS. I had them neatly stacked in the closet too, and an empty CD rack (holds 500) waiting for them. What I did, however, is relegate some to a rack that will be dumped either into the walk-in or the basement, and arrange my genres better in the rack. I also seperated Dana's CDs in fine fashion, and set up a stand-up rack for her in the bedroom.
Now I got to tackle the linen closet. Cant use it for linens, with all the junk I piled in there when I was in carry-stuff-across-the-street mode.

Ok, so THIS part of moving can be fun. When we were doing this, I rescued 5 storage boxes from my parents basement. They were nagging me about them for years, although in the grand scheme, buried under a workbench as they were, they never took up too much space. That said, I surely did not have any room for them.
So now i am going through them. I knew what they held, a treasure trove of old magazines, yearbooks and programs, wrestling magazines and newsletters, old baseball and hockey preview mags, papers I wrote in college, notebooks I sketched cartoons in, all that.
I ordered 5 storage boxes from BagsUnlimited last week, and I am going to organize this stuff. I have not pawed through this stuff in like a half dozen years. I already saw the 1980 Yankee yearbook, and some 1960s Jets yearbooks someone gave me years back.

LOL! LMAO! LOL!
Ah, found some of my old report cards. I remember these well, Ive talked about them in the past. Sought out my 2nd grade peformance, circa 1975, for some sterling stats.
First thing I found was a progress report by Mrs Kay, my afro-haired teacher. She says, "Im concerned about his behavior in class. He needs to learn how to control himself more with the other children."
But it got better on my report card itself. In the personal development category, you either get a check for good work, or an N for "needs improvement." I got checks in pretty much all schoolwork categories. I did well. However, here was my litany of "PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT."
Assumes Responsibility N Exhibits self-control N Works well with others N Cooperates with school rules N Takes care of school materials / property - CHECK Listens to and follows directions N Completes work satisfactorily N Works independantly N Participates in class activities N Uses time effectively N
LOL! Straight Ns, except for taking care of school materials and property. Why not just give me an N there too, so I could run the board? I guess what they were saying was that I was a demon to be around, but I put my pencils back when i was done with them.

My grade school teacher (Ms. Rivello at Geneva M. Gallow in fact) once told my mother, "Christopher is the only student I know who can walk into the classroom with a clean face, and by the time he's across the room his face is filthy."

Our old apartment is back up for sale, for immediate move-in. Freshly painted, and newly carpeted. They only raised the rent $50 a month, with all expenses included. Pricetag of $1400 gets you 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room and bathroom, heat and hot water, and central air in the warmer months. Directly across the street from me.
Who is moving in?

$1400.00??? holy Crap that's a deal.
When the wife and I were living in Newport Coast in '05 (within a mile radius of Kobe Bryant's house), we were shelling $1600/month for 1 bedroom, no utils. That same place is $2100.00 today.

This is really a nice place, too. Just a little too small, especially with a child around. But for a single sort, or a young couple, wowza. Someones looking at the place right now, the upstairs windows are lit up like Christmas trees, and people are coming in and out.
I think they are doing the right thing by not raising the rent too much, as people are scuffling these days.

I'm bumping this to discuss the pain of the moving process so as to stop cluttering up the angry thread...

Well, it's official. Last night we signed our new lease. On June 27th, we will begin the moving ordeal into a lovely ranch on Lake Avenue in Deer Park, a whole 4 blocks from the Brown homestead.

Very nice! Congratulations. But please don't say the word "move" around me right now. My roommate is moving out today. My girlfriend is moving in Thursday (very happy about that). So how did I spend my Friday Happy Hour? Helping my friend's brother move a shelf that weighed more than the two of us combined.
