The Hitler Negro last name thing reminds of an old assed Dear Abby letter where this woman was getting married to a guy with the last name Hooker and she didn't want to go through life as a Hooker.

Does anyone have any suggestions on midtown and up hotels for mid-sept?
I am having a great deal of trouble finding any availability that isn't a BILLION DOLLARS per night in mid-September.
My mainstay..the Amsterdam in..is completely sold out.

Are you coming to New York only for the Yankees?
What I find lot of tourists doing as of late is staying in or around the Laguardia Airports in Queens and taking the m60 Bus from Laguardia to 125th street where they transfer to the 4.
I had some family from Florida come up for the Mets series last month and they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express right by Laguardia and did that commute.
Ultimatley it will probably cost you an extra 20-30 minutes or so timewise from Times Square, but the amount of money you would be saving would make it very much worth it.

I'm coming for a whole slew of reasons: Yankee game, family, friends.
I would prefer to stay somewhere around midtown and up for the couple of days that I want to spend in the city. Other than that, I'll be in Westchester county with relatives.

I see.
Well i wouldnt really know where to tell you as far as midtown goes but if worst comes to worst the Laguardia airport area is always a safer and cheaper bet.
Plus you are right by the Tri-Borough and WhiteStone bridge as far as travel to Westchester goes.

Cho, you have a better chance of finding a manor on the moon than a hotel room in midtown for a fair price when you are coming in.
I know folks more likely to stay across the river in Jersey, a ferry ride away, than they are to pay to house in midtown.

Based on my travel-to-the-stadium experiences, the Sheraton on the water in Weehawken would be infinitely superior to staying in Queens... you can get the ferry directly to the stadium from the pier at the hotel & if you want to hang in the city you can get gypsy buses from midtown to a block from the hotel 24-7... I used to live in that 'hood before I moved to Hoboken, so I can give you the 411 on all the transportation, if you can get a room.
I stayed in that hotel last year, when my company did a kickoff event. Took those ferries, too. Had a room looking at the Empire State Building across the water.

What the hell is Tacky glue?
I just went school supply shopping and purchased everything off the unbelievably long kindergarten list except a 5 0z. bottle of tacky glue because I don't know what it is? Is this a craft store item?
Also, what is with all the glue? Each parent has to supply 3 seven oz bottles of Elmer's white glue, 5 LARGE glue sticks, and a bottle of this elusive 'tacky glue." Seems like a lot of adhesive to me.

Apparently you can get it at craft stores or Walmart... it's like Elmers, only thicker, so it can glue wood, buttons & other crafts. This does seem exceptionally excessive, especially in light of the property taxes in Long Island. Every time I hear about this sort of crap I become more and more infuriated. Where does all this school budget money go, if the teachers have to spend thousands to stock their classrooms and the parents have to purchase all the school supplies??? Description: Aleene's® Tacky Glue® is considered the ultimate in glues due to it's versatility. It's a great all-purpose glue for craft projects and household repairs. Not intended for washable wearable crafts. Dries clear and flexible. Cleans up with water. 4 oz Dabber You can get a small bottle for $1.49 on this discount school supply site... www.discountschoolsupply.com/product/productdetail.aspx?product=23432&es=10190200000

See, I did a search for tacky glue when I found it on the list and found that same brand but they are asking for a 5 oz bottle and that is 4. I am surprised they weren't more specific because the markers and colored pencils had to be Crayola and the glue had to be Elmers. I even had to be a specific brand of pencils. Come on, a pencil is a pencil.

Do they specify the brand of clothing that the children must wear to school, too??? This is seriously offensive. I'd get together with the other parents and buy store brand glue, pencils and crayons, and then tell the teacher to remove the silver spoon from her mouth and shove it up her ass.

I know in the Bronx that the kids are required to buy two rolls of paper towels, and specific hand/anti-germ sanitizer. Looking at all of this I wondered where the hell are the students supposed to store all of this? Jw

Interesting.... and this after the big media scare about little kids getting poisoned by that hand sanitizer crap. Whatever happened to having a sink in every classroom with soap, water and paper towels that were supplied BY THE SCHOOL???

I did not have to buy hand sanitizer. The list did however include two "large" boxes of tissues (they did not specify Kleenex but I bought Kleenex anyway), two boxes of baby wipes, and a pump bottle of liquid anti-bacterial soap. I am supposed to bring all this stuff to orientation.
And the list didn't come from the teacher. It is a uniform list given out by the district and required for all kindergartens not just Em's class.

I'd get together with the other parents and buy store brand glue, pencils and crayons. I'm sure there are a bunch of folks doing just that at the Dollar Tree. When did this supply list come into play? Not that I'm ancient or anything but school supply shopping used to consist of a loose leaf binder w/ paper, some spiral notebooks, pens, pencils and folders...all of those items could be found in one aisle at Rock Bottom.

If the schools no longer provide basic supplies, like tissues, glue and text books, WHERE IS THIS MONEY GOING???
Look, I hate paying out as much as anyone, but Im not going to beef on school taxes. There are taxes for everything. As to where the money is going, well - computers. Athletics and other after-school activities. When budgets fail (I belive Wantagh is an example) the first thing cut is all the sports teams.
I dont think school taxes are excessive. In regards to the supplies, lots of these are indeed dumb, but at the end of the day they cost us about $50, so who cares. I spent that this week on DVDs alone.

it is true, the money goes to music and sports programs in my music theory and composition classroom there were 10 Korg MIDI synthesizers plus a whole bunch of recording studio equipment but a lot of the athletes have to buy their own equipment and sometimes uniforms

Balls, did you even watch any of this game or did you stand on the rail all evening posing for photos like a statue at Madame Tussauds?? (thus clogging the walkways and making it difficult for people to get to their seats)

It could have been worse - he could have been on the field trying to get into the middle of the players as they celebrated home runs or the victory like he was at the bleacher softball game.

I stood on the rail and posed for pictures all night. When you're as good looking as I am, it goes with the territory. The aisles weren't clogged. There was just a long line to get a glimpse of all of us. Besides, it's not everyday that a picture is taken of two bleacher legends like myself and Vinny.

Vinny looks very pale in that picture. Perhaps he should schedule a doctor's appointment.
