I think when they wanted to use a different name, he got frustrated and lost it in front of the networks. He threw a glass bowl on the floor as hard as he could and yelled, "DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!" Then he threatened to blow the studio up with some dyn-o-mite.
Moved by his actions, the networks relented.

Do you think as he walked through the pearly gates, Saint Peter muttered, "Ain't we lucky we got em?"
I hope Mad Dog didn't kill him.

I hope when they bury him, his family doesn't get taken to the Cleaners.

Who's going to be # 3?
As for James Brown, there was a huge piece on him in Rolling Stone over the summer that I flipped through. Learned more about him there than I had anywhere else over the years. By the way, Rolling Stone is a liberal mess. RIP Uri Dan. Well regarded. Godspeed to the both of them.

Ford never told NYC to drop dead. The Daily News just made a headline.
He was the first president I ever rooted for to win an election. Too bad the American people weren't as smart as me when I was 5.

Certain people are above that. As a Republican President, Ford is exempt.
Out of respect for President Ford, I will rip on James Brown some more. When James Brown was about to die, the doctors thought all the gurgling was really part of his act.

BOO. I PROTEST.
That gimmick is only good if it is consistant. The humor isn't in the actual jokes (obviously), it's that they are made for every death.
Bad humor certainly transcends mere politics. As someone once said on this thread not long ago "Celebrity deaths give us the opportunity to debut new material we've been DYING to try out. " and "We exist for dumb jokes. "
I demand a joke here! There will be no pardon on this issue!

As he arrived in heaven, Richard Nixon bumped into Gerald Ford. Being polite, Nixon said, "I beg your pardon."

Darrent Williams of the Broncos, shot to death after yesterday's playoff loss. Someone needs to review the NFL penalty system.

Balls, you idiot, the playoffs have not started yet. Pay attention.
As for Williams, I was going to put him on my list of 5 just yesterday, but I am hung up on 2 of the other names. But, trust me, I had him dying this year.

Bad wording on my part. I meant the loss that knocked them out of the playoffs. But the point is, he was sacked.
Too bad you didn't list him yesterday. I believe you. Why would you lie?

Re: Darrent Williams
It's sad he died. It's sad his family is left behind. None of that needs to be said - it's a foregone conclusion to a sad, premature ending of a young man's life.
But, here's my point. Young rich, famous black man....with time and money to burn and not a lot of structure in his life...out in the early A.M. with an entourage in a stretch limo Hummer....at a night club....I mean come on...is it really THAT shocking that this happened? We've all been to night clubs....not necessarily a place one would go to seek those members of society representing the best in moral fiber. Did Darrent Williams deserve to die...absolutely not. Did Darrent Williams put himself in the best, safest possible situation on a New Year's Eve, knowing that he's accountable to a wife and children...probably not. Hey, I'm pretty satisfied with my life, I don't think I'm missing out on a whole bunch of fun that's out there to be had...but there's a reason I'm not in limos at nightclubs at 2 A.M. (aside from the obvious financial reasons).

People are forgetting it was NEW YEARS EVE.
LOTS of people were in the clubs on that one night only.
I dont think we should fault this guy for having the nerve to spend New Years Eve out on the town.

The event he attended was Kenyon Martin's birthday party. And people -- no matter what their age, tax bracket, race, or whatever -- should be able to leave their friggin homes and go to a party or a night on the town without having to fear bullets. From all accounts, he wasn't the target. Who knows?

Thats just wrong.
