This may be a silly question, buty why were Felix and Oscar friends in the first place? If they were so different from each other, what possibly could have brought them together originally?

There were things they did together, like hanging out with the guys playing poker, and they were both writers for newspapers... you can be friends with someone very easily who is totally different from you, but that person would be insanely difficult to live with!
Oh, I don't know... ask Neil Simon!

$0.00 for the five finger discount.
Really? And you are going to steal it from where? What, are you going to walk out of Best Buy with it stuck under your jacket?

The tale of how Felix and Oscar met is one of the more controversial elements of the show. The story was told several times, differently.
They met in grade school.
They met in the army.
I think there are more.

Anyone remember the black Odd Couple with Lamont from "Sanford and Son" and Harris from "Barney Miller?"

Sanford and Son is my favorite show of all-time, bar none.
Lamont is a preacher now.

While Sanford & Son did make me laugh on occasion, it was never one of my favorites. That said, I love that theme song.

In the movie (and I believe the play too) they worked at the newspaper together. I think Felix wasn't a portrait photog in the original.

As Neil Simon wrote it, Felix was a newswriter and Oscar was the sportswriter at the same paper...

Gary Marshall adapted Odd Couple for TV. His birthday is November 13, which we all know is the day that Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence.
