Well, baseball is going on. I am a little grumpy its not on the radio, I mean it is the dawning of a new season. Caught about 3 minutes in my room this morning as I was getting dressed. Sox are down 4-3 as I type....watch Huston Street blow the save.
I remember years back when the games were on at 4AM...my plan was to get up and have some eggs, watching the game before work. Well, the egg experiment went awry (I was a single man and could not even handle cooking eggs right) so I drank a couple of beers instead.

Holy crap, did I call that Street blown save or what? I know em from experience, from having him hinder my fantasy team a couple of seasons running.

Yes, but back when that was happening, our league did not have the Blown Save stat. It does now. Congratulations goes out to Evan for being the first victim of that new stat.

It wont be his last time, either. He will be a regular benificiary of that generous category, with Street on his roster.

Oakland clearly is working hard so that Jack Cust has a shot at the golden sombrero.

Hey, who was the idiot who we saw strike out FIVE times during a Yankee tilt, from our bleacher perches? Walkman John, chime in here.

That would be Melky Cabrera on 7/7/07 vs. LAA

LOL. What a dope. I know someone came into town on a road club and did same, years before. I will try to jog my memory. And it appears Cust went and did it. He should be ashamed of himself. Way to fly for 15 hours to strike out 4 times.

Well, Sox win, thanks in part to an Emil Brown baserunning blunder in the final frame, and certainly with help from Huston Street, the moron. Half game back already!

Congratulations to Jack Cust for the golden sombrero. I'm sure his fantasy owners are thrilled--especially in leagues where Ks count against hitters.

I said this at the draft....anyone who bothers drafting him is an idiot. I think Capone is the idiot in our league, I cant be bothered to check. There is a reason Jack Cust has been released from two handfuls worth of teams.

You are correct, Capone is indeed the "idiot" who drafted Jack Cust.

Thank you Huston Street for getting my fantasy team off to a disgusting start this year. Worst of all, he threw over 30 pitches and probably won't be available tomorrow if a save opportunity arises.

I liked him all through college, but it did not take him long to show that the whispers that he would not be nearly as dominating were on point. Most insiders expect him to be out of the closing role at an age when most guys are just growing into it. I had him as a closer of mine the last couple of years, and he frustrated the Hell out of me.

Tom (and everyone else) since you guys are discussing Cust, I have a question I am in an HR pool where there are 10 groups of players and you have to pick one player from each group. Who would you pick from this group (remember HRs are the only thing that count nothing else) NICK MARKAKIS GARRETT ATKINS VICTOR MARTINEZ JACK CUST BJ UPTON HANK BLALOCK JOSE GUILLEN TROY TULOWITSKI ROBINSON CANO GEOFF JENKINS CURTIS GRANDERSON I was thinking of going with Cust actually...LOL I can post the other groups if anyone finds it interesting to speculate....

PECOTA predicts the following:
NICK MARKAKIS - 18 GARRETT ATKINS - 23 VICTOR MARTINEZ - 17 JACK CUST - 23 BJ UPTON - 18 HANK BLALOCK - 15 JOSE GUILLEN - 18 TROY TULOWITSKI - 21 ROBINSON CANO - 14 GEOFF JENKINS - 18 CURTIS GRANDERSON - 22
You can thank me later.

I would have picked Markakis.

May I ask who is PECOTA? Is it your poodle? LOL
Actually I am throwing out Granderson since he is hurt and I agree it would probably be between Cust and Atkins though I think Cano will be closer to 20 then 14.....

FWIW I like Granderson of those ten. (Not if he's injured, which I didn't know.)
I'm not convinced Cust will get enough plate appearances to justify his selection.

PECOTA stands for Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm. PECOTA is Baseball Prospectus' proprietary system that projects player performance based on comparison with thousands of historical player-seasons. Analyzes similarities with past player-seasons based not only on rate statistics, but also height, weight, age, and many other factors.

Yeah, Granderson is starting out on the DL. Looking over the list again, I stick with Markakis.
As to Cust, he wont be starting within another couple of months. He is what he is, the consumate journeyman who can hit prodigous home runs, but misses the ball way too much to matter.

If Cust hits one more than Markakis he is the better pick...LOL

Off the top of my head I like Sizemore, Zimmerman, and... man is that last group ugly. Let's go with Abreu to bounce back with a bigger power season.
PECOTA says:
ADRIAN GONZALEZ - 27 JASON BAY - 27 CHIPPER JONES - 23 TORII HUNTER - 20 ADRIAN BELTRE - 22 MAGGLIO ORDOĆEZ - 18 AARON ROWAND - 13 GRADY SIZEMORE - 27 ALEX RIOS - 20 GARY SHEFFIELD - 15 TROY GLAUS - 21
----------
JOSH WILLINGHAM - 22 MIKE LOWELL - 14 MIGUEL TEJADA - 17 RYAN ZIMMERMAN - 24 JEFF FRANCOEUR - 22 COREY HART - 26 ADAM LAROCHE - 23 TY WIGGINTON - 20 JHONNY PERALTA - 18 PEDRO FELIZ - 14 ERIC CHAVEZ - 15
----------
CARLOS GUILLEN - 17 MIKE CUDDYER - 17 JOSE REYES - 14 TODD HELTON - 16 JORGE POSADA - 17 BRAD WILKERSON - 15 BOBBY ABREU - 14 AUBREY HUFF - 15 JONNY GOMES - 24 JEFF KENT - 16 AUSTIN KEARNS - 19
