I just finished reading John Brown's interview. Interesting. I'm actually impressed with him after reading it. He knew exactly what he was getting into and he got exactly what he intended out of the show (minus the money). You can't say the kid is stupid. He's got people buying his Ghetto Revival shirts and saying "Hallelujah HollaBack". I bet he extends his fame much longer than Shamrock, that's fo sure. He'll probably be a successful player in the hip hop business some day. Probably not as an MC tho...

Good interview.
The funny thing about John Brown as after the first two episodes when he had no comeback to anyone's critiques other than "Ghetto Revival, Baby" I thought he was a complete buffoon.
But as the weeks grew on, he became my second favorite to 100 Proof. Of course now, after the show, and after reading that interview I do view him as being clearly the most cerebral of all the contestants and wish him, above all other contestants, the most luck in his rap career.
The thing about rap music is that it is a haven for clowns. Let's face it, most of the popular rappers and most of rap fans (whether they're white, black, brown, etc) come from culture that puts less emphasis on education and therefore by and large aren't the most intellectual and thoughtful members of society (disclaimer - that was a generalization, and in no way an indictment of any one specific rap music fan nor attempt to suggest that there aren't intelligent rappers or fans). It's the exception, not the rule, that a rapper or a rap fan is truly intelligent, on some level...and it's even more difficult to bring credibility to this genre given it's heavy heavy reliance on superficial things such as booze, drugs, broads, and partyin' (which is fine in doses, but when it's your entire gimmick, then there's nothing of any substance there)
I can think of a few who have actually been able to use their status as a rapper to promote a serious positive message: KRS1, The Beastie Boys (albeit their use of humor as the vehicle), Tupac to some extent, Public Enemy. John Brown seems to be intent on heading down that path, which I like.
Perhaps that's a personal preference with me...I take music seriously, so I tend to only appreciate serious musicians...not to say humor can't be incorporated...but if you, as a musician, strike me as nothing but shtick, that's where you lose me and that's where the majority of rap music is lost on me.

The content of media is irrelevant. The form of the medium itself is what changes our consciousness.

John Brown does seem pretty smart about the business. He was all about the game plan. He's such a prick though. In a way that makes me laugh. Like Sham is chilling with his friend and showing him around the White House and all and John Brown is completey ignoring his "friend."

I knew Shamrock won after his performance but really it could have gone either way. If you look at the performances in the park I would have given it to Brown.

That's exactly my point about $hamrock winning.
If you remember, Serch said it was time for someone to step up, and the final competition would decide the winner. All of the previous weeks had nothing to do with it. It was just eliminations to get the last two left to square off.
I thought $hamrock's performance in the final competition was stronger than John Brown's. That's all.

i gotta say.... i was impressed with serch as the host of this show. cheesy voice-overs aside, i thought he was really good on camera, came across as genuine, and it was good to see that he ageed well.
plus, its encouraged me to spin Derelicts of Dialect and the Cactus album a lot more recently

I agree, Serch was spot-on. An aggravating host would have caused us to bail on the show early, and not partake of the later pleasures contained within. I was never a 3rd Bass guy (my brother Dan is and was) but, due to this, I started dipping my toes into the water of the 3rd Bass sound, and I like what I have sampled out of his collection (although he told me I am listening to and liking is the weakest of the crop and I ain't heard nothing yet)
Back in the day I heard 3rd Bass and dismissed them, did not like them at all. I was more in my Megadeth and Grim Reaper phase, although I could handle the Beastie Boys now and again.

notice how throughout the whole season of the white rapper show that they never mentioned the beasties (maybe once)?
serch had beef with the beasties years ago....they dissed each other publicly in tracks (i gotta run to work, or i would look it up on the beasties message board). i'll try to find the info tonight

Do that. I would be interested in seeing that. I like the drama.
Who is angry that there was not a "3rd Bass Reunion" - even if it wasnt just the two MCs standing there in the White House dispensing advice.

Sons of 3B
Put to bed, three kids to a third track Cap the front and grip, when they heard that the crew from the L.Q. stepped to the Club Mars Shook the Beast' and soon to be dubbed stars Starring roles stone-faced from the brothers Ludicrous whining, meaning when the others stand by em, while they take the fall The Beast' now lives in the Capitol Record wrecks sets, Def Jam a true wrecker The label is nothing but MC Black'n'Decker Three boys buggin to the A.M. You step to the Serch and I slam!
Negative mind, paid as snakes who can't rhyme Play the dude? It's sucker time I stand I take a bust in my nut and gave birth to three bastard sons A record label, a King to 4th letter Passin phases, non-legitimate trendsetters Pop figures, who figured they'd get paid Exploitin art the black man made Played out hardcore flaws, step to stage Your biggest fan, nine years of age Broke out cause the swindler took your ducat
Professor Booty
So many wack M.C.'s You get the T.V. bozack Ain't even gonna call out your names 'Cause you're so wack But one big oaf whose faker than plastic A dictionary definition of the word spastic You should have never started something That you couldn't finish 'Cause writin' rhymes to me Is like Popeye to spinach I'm bad ass move your fat ass 'Cause you're wack son Dancin' around like you think you're Janet Jackson

Here it is TJ, at least what I have heard,
The Beasties got a huge deal at Capitol Records after making very little for Licence to Ill on Def Jam. Def Jam got 3B to replace them (they couldn't) 3B's Cactus record is littered with beastie disses. Check Your Head came out around the same time, and AdRock and MCA both take some shots at Serch or Mike B as he was called before 3Bass appeared.

I wonder if Serch and Pete Nice are on good terms. As Tom posted, Pete Nice is now a baseball historian, running a business in Cooperstown. Surely they could have freed up some time to have the entire 3rd Bass crew do something for the show...if they were all on good terms. As a matter of fact, they didn't really talk much about the group 3rd Bass at all during the show. I wonder if there's something there.

IMHO, 3rd Bass was a decent group, but nowhere close to the Beasties in either importance to the genre or quality of the music.

No I know...I'm not saying that anyone here said that...that was intended to address the lyrics of the Sons Of 3B song that were posted, which seemed to directly attack the credibility of the Beasties.

they all have tracks up, which is cool. Sullee and 100 proof are pretty good. i liked both songs that i heard from each. Persia's tracks SUCKED, as did Shamrock (you could barley understand him). the best of the bunch is Dasit, who sounds great, but sounds identical to Eminem. Misfit gets points for dissing fergie, and g-child is just plain horrible

What do you mean? He has a page up, and, as he is on my friends list, I can tell you he is a bulletin whore as well.
I want to check out some of the tracks up and around. Thanks for posting that, Vinny.

no problem T
john brown is a bulletin whore as well.....they must be drying to get the most of their 15 minutes lol
it would be cool to have a White Rapper Show mixtape. not just dl'ing the songs from Myspace, but a legit DJ could put together one big collabo showcasing everyone's different styles
oh, and of the above, 100 proof has the BEST myspace page! it amazes me when people are SO good at html that their myspace pages look completly different

I made the mistake of adding 100 Proof as one of my "MySpace friends" and I have been bombarded with news about his "mashup" with Amy Winehouse to a ridiculous degree. I have to remember to drop him as a friend next time I log on.
