Pretty sure Joe Theismann was only on for a year. Mike Adamle was the main host, and Larry Csonka was his main partner.
And this remake is awful.

Flipping around last night I noticed they are actually airing the old American Gladiator episodes on ESPN Classic. Between that and UWF Wrestling they are really scraping the chaff.

Yeah, they've been airing those for a couple of years now.
Come to think of it, those suck, too.
I guess I liked it because I was younger.

I'm the same. Big Hogan fan, but no thanks. Actually, liking Hogan has not made me watch any of his other projects. The reality show stinks and I could care less, I have never seen any of his movies (except the Rocky one, which I only saw parts of like 20 years ago) I like him in wrestling, thats it. In fact, I would have been more likely to watch Gladiators to see Gina Carano, who kicks ass, instead of Hogan.

Remember when I said Hogans reality show sucks and you and Balls defended it(you to a point, Balls to this day). That was silly.
And speaking from an unbiased point of view, being a kid during the old ones, never liked it. I liked the Nickelodeon shows more and even as a kid I knew those shows sucked, but not as bad as Gladiators. I don't know, maybe cause I was use to strong muscle bound guys smasking each other with chairs and sinapore canes, flaming tables and barbed wire, I never understood how tennis balls could fuck those guys up. Some of the stunts or missions whatever they're called, were/are pretty cool, but there were more entertaining than the original Gladistors. It's really fucking boring. If Gladiators was on at the same time as Reading Rainbow or the Ghostbusters cartoon, Gladiators goes on the bottom of that list.

Hogan's reality show was a hit James. It didn't suck by any stretch. It may be gone because Nick can't drive, but it was a solid performer for VH1.
Given your age when the original Gladiators was on, I don't blame you for choosing Ghostbusters or Reading Rainbow.

Ok, which Ghostbusters cartoon....Ghostbusters or "The REAL Ghostbusters"? Though I watched both.

Real Ghostbusters, the one where they walked all goofy everywhere during the intro/theme song. When I bought the movies one a dobule DVD pack, it came with a few episodes as a bonus feature since it picks up right after Gozer and Slimer is hiding all over the place.
One of my favorite episodes when i was kid was the baseball one with Winston in the ghost world. He had to play against a whole team of monsters, also the one where they go to Russia, I think it was a two parter. They actually freaked me out a little, especially the Russian Demon Cult one.
On a funny note, the voice of Veinkman in the cartoon done by the guy who did Garfeild in the cartoons. Bill Murray who of course is iconic as Pete Veinkman, went on later to voice Garfeild in the "live" action Garfeild movie. Not sure how it ties in here, but I always found that ironic.

AMERICAN GLADIATOR RENEWED FOR ANOTHER SEASON By: Bob Ryder 1/15/2008 3:33:36 PM
NBC has renewed American Gladiator for another year. The show, co-hosted by Hulk Hogan, has drawn impressive ratings for it's initial airings the last couple of weeks and the success of the show comes at a time NBC is in need of programming to offset the ongoing writer's strike that has crippled the networks.

The power of Hulkamania transcends everything.
I just finished watching last night's episode. When someone hits the target in the target game, the Gladiator goes flying. Very cool.

A co-worker of mine just tried out for this show last Saturday in Venice, CA.
Now, I tried out for the original American Gladiators at Universal Studio way back in the day. I was a lean mean fightin' machine back then, but when I got there, although I didn't have much difficulty with the athletic tasks, there were just TONS of guys way faster and way stronger than me, as well as tons who weren't. I never made through to the "personality testing" but some of the events I got to perform while trying out were similar (not exactly) to those on the show, thus it was a fun experience.
My co-worker told me that all he got to do was pull-ups, push-ups, and various sprinting drills. Doesn't sound like much fun.
