Well I hope to give a weekly update on Eric's whole season this year his Stats. Team's record and so on. First off let me say unlike pop's this is not a gimmick I can't spell for shit so please as the season goes on try to understand Iam not perfect. His Bio-Name-Eric Van Ousland Born-on September 26 1995 at Brooklyn at Kings County Hospital Wt:70lbs "God please give this kid some meat" Ht:4'9" Pos.2B,SS Fav Team:Yankees Fav Major league player:Derek Jeter He's been on two last place teams and three Championship teams. He Was the MVP of the 9 and 10 year old Allstar game at 9 years old! His Strengths on defence:Very good Glove and know's the Fundamentals of the game very well. His Weaknesses on Defence:Weak arm but getting better soon he should make that move from 2B to SS His Strengths on Offence:Great Eye at the plate. He does not swing at balls. Allways finds ways to get on base is a good pesky slap hitter loves to steal and he can bunt! Very good leadoff batter or 9th batter of the lineup. His Weaknesses on Offence:No power only 1 Career HR and that was last year man what a moment for me I was his Manager and got to see his first Homerun talk about gosse bumps. Can take to many pitcher's from time to time. Ok Iam really pumped up this year for my son who now is 11 years and has been playing since he was 6.This is a big year for him I put him in a diff league this year and the skill level is much higher then his last league so he has to step it up. Unlike all the other league he has been in where coach's where able to just sign kids up as they came in or just where able to bring in there whole team which sometimes was not fair because some guys would just take all the best players and leave some coach out there with a bunch of rookies that need a lot of help and have no chance of winning. Now in this league "Brooklyn East Youth Sports & Recreation" They have 4 weeks of practice and all these kids get Ranks from A being the highest to D being the lowest then these kids get put in to a draft pool and each coach get the same amount of players each ex. Coach 1 gets three A players and three B players and so on. After just 3 weeks one week got rained out.My son was ranked as a B player by all 6 managers. Now get this in this league you can't name your team after a Major League team so my son was drafted by the Rangers I know what your going to say but his new coach says the team is named after the New York Hockey Rangers not the Texas Rangers smart huh? I went to his first practice today and was very happy to see the guy knew what the hell he was doing. Also the team looks like there going to be a pretty good team. All the kids had to take infield and outfield practice and My son had a good day with the glove coach was very happy with him.No hitting yet. Can't wait. So stay tuned...............

So do you coach at all, or are you just going to be the overbearing parent? Is your son a big kid for his age or is he a small kid? If he's a small kid, then the only thing keeping him from being an A player is size, which will eventually come.
Is this the kind of little league that if the team is really good, can go to the Little League World Series?

Eh, you dont get it, do you.
The Little League World Series teams are NOT teams out of given leagues. They are ALL-STAR teams from certain leagues. The best, of the best.
Milton, I look forward to reading your reports.

I have no clue HOW the LLWS is set up and where the teams come from. Are you sure about that? I always got the impression the teams play together all season.

I am sure about it. In fact, I know heaps about it - more than I would ever want. The Little League World Series is one of eight tournaments sponsored by Little League International. Each of them brings baseball or softball all-star teams from around the world together in one of four age divisions. The tournament structure described here is that used for the Little League Baseball World Series. The structure used for the other World Series is similar. In the summer months leading up to the Little League World Series, held each year in August, nearly every Little League organization around the world selects an All-Star team made up of players from its respective league. It is these All-Star teams that compete in district, sectional, state, and regional tournaments in hopes of advancing to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. Just how many games a team has to play varies widely from region to region. In the United States alone, for instance, the tournaments at the lowest (district) level lack nationwide standardization. Some use pool play or double elimination, others use single elimination. www.littleleague.org/worldseries.html

Interesting. I always thought these were just good teams, not all star teams. I thought that these coaches actually coached them through some sort of season.

No, they've been all-star teams going back to when I was in Little League. Our league took the wrong approach and just took anyone who wanted to play, which is why I was on the team (I was nowhere near one of the 15 best players in our league). We traveled up to Co-Op City in the Bronx to be on the receiving end of a 22-1 beatdown.

Way to play in a pussy league. Your league was exactly what's wrong with this country today. For some reason, people started to believe that it was wrong to make distinctions based on ability. Hell, there are assholes who think it's wrong to keep score. They don't want to hurt kids' feelings.
Tough shit. If you're the fat kid, or the small kid, you deserve to be treated as such. There is a hierchy.
Enough of this holding hands tie game malarky. It's about competition.
Your team got a 22-1 beat down and I'm glad. You deserved it. I hope your team cried on the way home and didn't even get a free pizza.

Larry, I would have liked to have seen your team take on Nettles'. Now that would have been a storied affair. Hey, when you go out to take shots of Eric and his game, drive me in, and I can drink on the sidelines.
Not to elbow my way in, but I can relate to what Milton is going through, as I have no doubt Emma is going to be tearing it up in some athletic endeavor. She is tall, speedy as all Hell, and pretty darn athletic, from throwing a ball to kicking, to even swinging a bat. No, I dont know where she is getting it from, either.
Milton, tell your son if he is hit in the head with a pitch he should charge the mound. By league rules, he would be thrown out of the game anyway for taking a shot to the noggin.

Hey, I was 12. I wasn't exactly on the rules committee. I heard, "Do you want to play a few extra baseball games?" and I said yes. I didn't realize "a few" would be one and done.
And we DID get pizza, so SCREW YOU, HIPPIE! ;D

When I was in little league I got one of those "everyone gets one" trophies. Ed Kranepool of all people showed up at a dinner and handed them out. I was a terrible ballplayer. I used to get high-fives when I managed to pop it up. But I was hit by so many pitches, and walked so many times that I was always high in OBP, as in near the league leaders. But dont let that fool you, I was probably batting .100.

Yes he is.Well the last two practices have not been eric's best he's very upset with his hitting. He even has told me its my fault that he's not hitting better. The fact is eric has been a small kid for his age and since he was a 6 year old I have mostly trained him to play good Defence and to learn Basic Fundamentals of Baseball I told myself he does not look like he would be a power hitter and his arm was never to strong so I worked on what he could be good at so when he got older he could work on the Hitting and any other things.Whats happening is now that eric is on a 11 to 12 year old team some of these kids are HUGE! My god so when they have batting practice and these kids are hitting diggers to the outfield eric I guess feel's a little feeling embarrassed with the fact that he is a slap hitter.I keep telling him your job is to get on base and make thinks happen he has a good eye and some speed. The other day in a Scrimmage game He was batting second in the lineup his team is down 3-2 its the bottom of the 5th and its a 6 inning game The leadoff batter Walked and stole second so Eric comes up and the kid pitching is twice his size and Iam thinking Oh boy.Well Eric works the count to 3-2 after being behide 0-2 and hits a hard ground ball to the second basemen and the kid gets Eric out but the runner moved over to 3rd and the next batter hit a fly ball Sand gets the Sac fly run scores game tied plus his team won in the bottom of the 6th 4-3. After grounding out Eric's is sitting there pissed and I get on him big time Iam trying to tell him he did his job!I told him he has to know his role your a top of the lineup or bottom of the lineup guy you have to do the little things there's plenty of good hitter around you to drive in runs you just get on anyway you can.Eric is still upset he want to hit the ball harder so yes I ahve been working on his hitting.Lets see what happens because this kid kills me his way to negative I feel like Iam talking to Midget Mike sometimes.....

I would think stolen bases are pretty standard by age 11-12.
Productive outs are indeed important, but it's good that he wants to get a hit every time up. He's setting a high bar for himself. Like a little O'Neill.
But it's also important he knows that for a guy with his build, he needs just to get on base, so it's good you're telling him that. If he's a decent baserunner, he should score runs. Get on base, score. Let the bigger kids drive him in.

As someone who caught at the end of his Little League career, I can vouch for the fact that stolen bases are indeed allowed. Lord knows I let up enough of them.

Sorry for the delay but I got real busy at work and thats where I only have time to type this stuff. My laptop is in the shop. So I will write about each game so far one at a time . Game 1-After a long wait we finally got the season on the way! We had to face The Giants and it was tough opening day for the team and my son Eric who was left on the bench because our manager had a plan to play the C-players early and get them out for the B-players but since we did not score it really did not work you see these kids have to play two inn on the field and bat once but the mistake he made was he put the C-players in the bottom of the lineup and there turn took to long he should have put the C-players at the top to get there one at bat out the way.It was not easy we had 16 players show up so Eric got in the game in the 5th inning and got one at bat and he stuck out on a 3-2 count and we lost 5-0 to the Giants. We where to slow. There was no pep in our step 4 of the 5 runs where unerned runs because our CF droped two fly balls with men on base.We must of left like 7 men on base. Our manager yells at these kids way to much and puts them down all the time right in the middle of the game but belive me as we go on you will see how I got more involed! My report on game 2 and 3 comeing soon!

How many C level players are on the team? And does the little league have similar rules to baseball where if you sub someone out, they can't come back in?
|
|
|
Post by cowbellman on May 15, 2007 13:23:33 GMT -5
Yes once they out they can't come back in. Anyway in game 2 the team came out on fire I started to give them practice with out the manager there he has me giveing the practice's because he's coaching 3 teams at once. The Team hit and hit and we had very good pitching thus the little league Rangers get there 1st win! 11-3 vs the Bulldogs!Eric had two put outs playing second base and got his first hit of the season he was 1 for 2 with a walk.Game 3 update next.
