YouTube is a trove. I like being able to think about something, run over to YouTube, and find it on a whim. Last night I was scarfing through a wrestling comp tape I made in 97, and I had a snippet of a fight between the Primeau brothers in the middle of it. I ambled over to the computer, punched up the Tube, and there it was. And here it is. Brother fight! Hit him! www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PfjG8KYaVU

An announcement is expected to be made before tonight's Penguins game against the Buffalo Sabres that a new arena deal has been approved, and the Pittsburgh Penguins will sign a 30-year lease with the new arena, ensuring their stay in Pittsburgh.
This is a great day for the City of Pittsburgh.

And for hockey in general. I am pleased. It would have been the latest in a series of cardinal sins if the Pens bolted from Pittsburgh.
Good for them, the city, and the fans. I'll drink to it!

This Islanders fan would like to tip his hat to Brian Leetch, who retired today. Great player and class act.

lol, fair enough, it would,be worth it for what he did for the rangers. But don't let this be about me, let it be all about #2. The last Ranger number from 94 to be up in the rafters next to 11 and 35.

Fantastic fun seeing Donald Cherry during the NBC telecast last night, between periods 2 and 3.
The piece below is courtesy of thehockeynews.com...
American viewers get taste of Cherry during second intermission on NBC
OTTAWA (CP) - Don Cherry took his campaign against the instigator rule to a whole new audience Monday night - the American hockey viewer.
Cherry joined Brett Hull and host Bill Clement for the second intermission show on NBC during its Game 4 broadcast of the Stanley Cup final between Ottawa and Anaheim, and made some arguments - loudly - that are very familiar to regular watchers of his Coach's Corner segment on the CBC.
One of his favourites - the instigator penalty - came up when the panel discussed Daniel Alfredsson's role in a scrum at the end of the second period and Clement asked Cherry how to prevent such incidents.
"Can I talk about that one? All right," Cherry said, revving up. "If I was commissioner, I'd like to get hold of the guy who put in the instigator rule ... The fans love the fights, the players love the fights, the people go nuts on the fights and I have to laugh ... but I'm told the reason they cut it down was because they wanted USA people to watch it. Can you believe that?
"That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. U.S., NASCAR where there's crashes, football kill the quarterback, ultimate fighting, who's kidding who?"
Hull egged him on, by saying fighting is "the most honourable, honest part of hockey from Day 1."
To back up his arguments, Cherry went back to his days as coach of the Colorado Rockies and recalled how attendance when the Stanley Cup champions would visit was 14,000, while the rough-and-tumble Philadelphia Flyers would draw, "16,500 with 2,000 waiting outside."
"The National Hockey League and NBC and everybody in U.S. television is making a big mistake," Cherry added. "They should go back to rock 'em sock 'em. ...
"I think it would help the game and help your audiences."
Hull, who appeared on Coach's Corner during Game 3, later railed against visors and big equipment, something Cherry blamed for the damage Chris Pronger's elbow inflicted on Ottawa centre Dean McAmmond in Game 3.
After avoiding the topic on his Coach's Corner segment, Cherry tackled the suspension controversy on NBC.
"I'm going to get in trouble here, I didn't say this on my show, no I don't think (Pronger should have been suspended)," Cherry said. "But did I think he would? Yeah, because he's a repeat offender."
During his usual appearance on the Coach's Corner after the first period Monday, Cherry focused more on the modern elbow pad.
"I don't want to get into it but I just want to show you something," Cherry said, holding up an elbow pad with a hard plastic covering. "He hardly hit him, hit on the neck ... and Pronger wears big elbow pads."
Cherry proceeded to hold up an old-style elbow pad, with just soft cushioning to cover the elbow joint. It was a fraction of the size of the modern pad.
"Isn't this absolutely ridiculous?" he shouted. "... They got to do something about that equipment."

A co-worker here had to go to both cities during the Finals to help out the NBC crew. He said after Game 3 in Ottawa downtown was incredible. Traffic jams all over the place, people going nuts in the streets, and the bars stayed open until 5am.
After Game 5 in Anaheim, he said two blocks beyond the arena you wouldn't even know there was any hockey played there. Jw

It's like that after every Angels game as well which is across the street from The Honda Center - the nice part is, leaving Angels Stadium is basically like pulling out of your driveway - hassle free. Not so much because no one goes - they get good sized crowds, but all the main exits lead to multi-lane major streets and the exits in conjunction with the traffic lights and traffic cops runs very smoothly. But yeah...less than a mile away from Angels Stadium, either way up or down State College Blvd, you wouldn't know that a pro baseball and hockey team reside nearby.

Congrats Sheff fan!
One problem, though, so far at least.
When the Rockies moved to New Jersey, they did not have to contend with the four-time defending Stanley Cup champion New York Islanders.
The Devils began play in 1982-83. Which means that when the Rocks moved, the Isles were the THREE-time champs.
But you and the others have done a great job with this, and it has brought back a flood of memories. Thank you.

A playmaker on the same line as Jagr, if it wasn't Drury I'm glad it's Gomez. Now they won't get burned by him anymore as he WAS a Ranger killer, now he's just a ranger.

That'd be insanity, but since they got a top shelf center I want them to get a little more help in front of Henrik. His second half last year was unreal, if he had good help in front of him, it'd be crazy how well the rangers would do with Henriks job easier for him. I'd laugh my ass off if Blake signs with the Rangers meaning a ex devil and islander would be new rangers. But I don't want Blake, one more concussion he might die, I thought he did.
It's July and I can't wait for hockey and football.

We'll see. Do I like the fact that we have Gomez and Drury? Sure. The thing is, I may not like how much we singed them for, and this came come back to haunt us. I know they both wanted cashola, so I'm wondering if the Rangers are entering Knicks territory right here.
