Not going there this Friday, but we should go some Fri or Sat night in the near future... I could go for a big pile of pulled pork and some collards... got my fingers crossed that the new one will be better than the one in Bay Shore...

What's wrong with the one in Bayshore and why would it be any different?
I get my bbq at Famous Dave's.

I found the one in Bay Shore to be very mediocre... too much vinegar & sugar, not enough fire & fat...

We are going this Friday, but that won't stop us from going again! let me know when!
I hope it is no different than the one in Bay Shore! Just a little closer. I love it.
We ate at Virgil's BBQ in the city Saturday night. It was better than I expected.

I have an ex who spoiled me for anything less than perfection in the south-of-the-mason-dixon-line genre... and Virgils is good shit. Their pulled pork is perfection, their greens melt in your mouth & their bourbon selection is excellent.

Cho, go do this... www.roaringcampgold.com/Home.htmVisit Roaring Camp Mining Co. in the California Mother Lode Roaring Camp is something special in the way of family recreation. It is an old goldmining camp on the Mokulmne River. In the past, it was accessibly only by horseback. Roaring Camp was once a camp for Forty Niners, but since it was so inaccessible, most of the gold still remains. Visitors can see our operating gold mine an can mine their own gold by panning, sluicing, dredging, and dry washing.

That looks cool.
Knott's Berry Farm has something like that.
I might actually look into that, come summer time, when the rubber meets the road.

I'd TOTALLY take my kids to that.
I loved that when I was a kid!
Frog N Toad, Bernstein Bears, and of course the LSD-induced Dr. Seuss tales.

If this is the same production that was making its way around New York City last year, the guys are not reallly bedecked in Frog and Toad costumes. They are just playing the parts and acting out the book - I guess you are supposed to pretend they are Frog and Toad in your eyes.

We have a nice Saturday planned out in the city this weekend, although the rain seemingly may piss on our parade. The girls want to hit FAO Schwartz. Im cool with that, but by no means did I want to make that the only reason to head into the city.
After kicking around a few other ideas, the Metropolitan Museum of Art carried the day. I have NEVER been there, which is odd. Dana has, and liked it. Emma can enjoy it, she is a curious sort, and they do have some things geared for kids, including "clues" they can look for as the parents drag them through.
We'll finish off with dinner. Originally I wanted to hit Justin Timberlake's "Southern Hospitality" eatery - talked to Lindsey about that place a few times - but they are having a Kentucky Derby theme bash all day, including guys dressed in Col Sanders suits and ladies with parasols and hats, so we pass. We'll be hitting "DALLAS" in the area of the museum, as its family friendly, and its barbecue.
Our go-to spots in the city are the Central Park Zoo (but we were just there in Oct) and the Museum of Natural History, so we are looking for other things to poke about.

Dallas is eh but their cocktails make up for it! Tell the kid to wait outside. I wish there was a GOOD southern place in the city. bah!
If Emma were smart she'd drag you to Dylan's... which I will be hitting up straight upon my return to nyc on Monday.
I could spend all day at the MNH.

We're goin. We go every Memorial Day. Dont hate.
Old Bethpage Village Celebrates Memorial Day Weekend With Sheep-Shearing and More
Old Bethpage Village Restoration (OVBR) will welcome in the sheep over Memorial Day weekend, with a range of related activities such as sheep-shearing, wool-spinning and weaving, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. The activities will take place May 23 - 25.
The popular sheep-shearing demonstrations involve a farmer skillfully applying a set of hand shears to remove fleece from the Village’s own flock of sheep. The craft of wool-spinning will also be demonstrated, and children will have the opportunity to help with the preparation of wool just before it is spun into yarn, known as “wool carding.” The event takes place at Powell Farm, a 19th-century barn originally located in Syosset.
Additional afternoon entertainment includes the Old Bethpage Village Dancers performing 19th-century contra-dances (and wearing attire of the time), accompanied by fiddle and dulcimer. The Old Bethpage Village Brass Band will also be on hand to perform each day at 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
Other activities include 19th-century “base ball” games at the Hewlett Base Ball Grounds over the weekend, horse-drawn carriage demonstrations by the Paumanok Driving Club; and a display of classic Model “A” Fords by members of the Model A Ford Club, and staged fisticuffs by ruffians at the General Store.
In addition, on May 25 at 2 p.m., the Village’s Civil War “veterans” will commemorate Decoration Day as it was first observed in the early 1870s, complete with a parade, a solemn patriotic program, and ceremonies at the Village cemetery honoring the fallen.
