Surely some of you were around for this one...
I dont even remember what year this was, but it would be on my scorecards. I got a call from some film dude who wanted to follow us around before and after games, and even on our free time. He was pitching some sort of bleacher documentary, a long-running thing, and apparently already had financing and such to the point that this would be a full-time gig pretty much.
Bottom line, these guys showed up in the park for well over a dozen games, and filmed us just being us. Of course some were perturbed about the old camera in the face - some oldtimers like Gang Bang Steve wanted nothing to do with the thing at all, and told them to keep him off camera, which sucked cause he was integral to what was going on.
I think they filmed us inside before games a couple of times too, and maybe during. I mean, this was intensive, there were usually multiple cameramen, and a guy holding a mic for crying out loud, waving it wherever the most interesting conversation was.
I later found out they had TWO people working fulltime on editing the footage....they would work a full workweek splicing this stuff together.
This went on for a few homestands, and then these guys disappeared. Obviously the idea was a flop, although I know FOR FACT they loved what they were doing, and thought we were gold. Obviously I wonder what ever became of the footage, and I wish to Hell I had contact info for this guy.
Anyone else remember this?
