Here's a funny Manny yarn I had not heard. I have the Padre / Dodger game on now, Sandog feed, and they were mentioning how back when Ramirez was with Cleveland, the big talk in the clubhouse one day was about the "OJ (Simpson) thing."
As this is being discussed, the whole time he was sitting there thinking they were talking about teammate at the time Chad Ogea. What a doof.

I was there last night Tom...yesterday was my 2 games in one day extravaganza...although the Angels/Yanks game was abbreviated.
I have now seen 2 dodger games this year and 4 Manny homers.

One of the morons on Mike and Mike in the Morning (wasn't one of the Mikes) was saying that Manny should win the NL MVP. Are you shitting me? I mean, I know he's hitting like .800 and slugging 2.926 since getting there, but how can you win MVP of a league that you're in for fewer than three months?

They were chanting MVP in Petco last night (a lot of Dodger fans there) and I thought exactly what you just said, Nettles.

Well Manny certainly went out in style!!!!
Can you guys believe the way Boras is gearing up for the Manny Sweepstakes? He said last night, "No player has ever done as much for a franchise as Manny did for the Dodgers."

This one is out there, but interesting nonetheless, although its just opinion....Manny to the Rays??? www.baseballmusings.com/I can't believe the Dodgers offered Manny Ramirez just $45 million for two years. I could see offering that average salary for five years, but for that short a term, I would have thought the Dodgers would bring the average a lot closer to A-Rod's $27.5 million. Hat tip to The Big Lead, which thinks the Dodgers may be bidding against themselves.
One problem with Manny sticking with the Dodgers is that he can't really generate that much more revenue for them. They already draw very good crowds. The team that should go overboard to sign Ramirez is the Tampa Bay Rays. Think about it. The Red Sox and Yankees are going to reload, making the AL East that much tougher to win. The Rays should get a boost in attendance with their AL championship, but imagine putting Manny in leftfield. They might draw 20,000 more per game! And if the Rays manage to net just $40 per person coming into the park, 20,000 * 81 * 40 is about $64 million in increased revenue. They could offer Manny $60 million over two years and still make a tidy profit. On top of that, Manny plays close to home and gets to torment the Red Sox. Everyone wins!

Manny alone would NOT add 1.62 million fans to the Rays.

Free blowjobs at the turnstile wouldn't add 1.62 million fans to a Florida baseball team.

they don't have the capacity to add 1.62 million fans.

I wonder where Manny is going to end up. The Yanks are unlikely, and Anaheim, Boston and the Mets are not interested. Seems the Dodgers are his only hope.

There's usually a wild-card out there that pops in from out of the blue.
Also, teams like Washington and Baltimore, who lost out on Texiera, may consider him now.

Actually that's a good point. I hadn't considered Baltimore or Washington. I would guess Baltimore would have a good shot, given the AL gives Manny DH time.

dodgers have contact adam dunn's agents and discussions are on going..
now if dunn signs w/ the dodgers... now who is left
o's no.. wont spend that money on a misfit i just dont see that.. nats maybe but does manny wanna go to a 100 loss team in that division..
if the yanks can deal matsui and his money is taken by that team.. there is a small shot we can snag him for cheap..

I don't know if it's a good idea for any team to sign Manny. The market shows that he is not going to get what he wants. So that means, if he takes what he can get, he can be unhappy, and we know what Manny is like when unhappy.

Just read on mlb.com that the Dodgers are kicking around the idea of Bob Abreu to man their outfield grass.

That'd be a nice fit.
His lazy ass would excel in that weak division, and the outfield in Chavez Ravine is so spacious his lallygagging in the field might be camouflaged.

He's still a solid hitter too that would make a decent alternative to Ramirez.

Abrue would fit in nicely in LA, he'd go under the radar and likes playing for Torre. Read that article about Abrue; the knock on him is that he doesn't run into walls. Though, as the article stated is a gift and curse, he's labeled as lazy, but not being a torpedo such as Griffey was, Rowland is, he stays healthy and in the lineup for about 150 games per. Abrue isn't going to lead a team, but he compliments a team nicely and is a clutch hitter that see's a lot of pitches and makes pitchers work. If the Dodgers can use the Manny $$ to turn into Dunn & Abrue and dump Andruw wouldn't be bad. Also, they should trade Kemp for Cano....oh sorry, that's my Pinstripe Prattle biasis.

Well, latest on mlb.com has the Dodgers and Boras once again cozying up, with Ned Colletti flat-out admitting Ramirez is his "first choice" for LF. He'll be back in LA, which from afar I will say is the best for both parties.

The Dodgers should be pretty pleased with all of the lack of interest in Manny.
Anyone who IS interested in Manny is only interested in a year, and the Dodgers will go to 2 years which he will undoubtedly snatch up at this point.

I don't particularly remember Abreu as a clutch hitter of any kind. Just a solid one throughout. No one was all that clutch last year on the Yanks, which was a big problem throughout the year. They never seemed to get it done with the pressure on.
They were pretty good at giving UP the clutch hit though.
Abreu's reputation is justified. Yeah, he stays healthy, but he costs teams runs with his failure to play his position properly. Baseball requires hustle. If you're not willing to bust your ass, get off the field. Abreu was a solid, consistent hitter and didn't hurt you at the plate, but he wasn't all that great and I won't miss him.

It says something when a team is so willing, even anticipating the loss of a sure-fire .300 AVG, 100 RBI, 20 HR, 20 SB guy.

I can't get over this Manny saga. How do you turn down $25 million for one season? I realize he wants a multiyear deal, but $25 million is almost like a multiyear deal in one year.
He would get free agency AGAIN too. What does he need? Financial security?
Some people think the Mets will cave, but I hope not. As good a hitter as he is, he may very well be pricing himself out of the market. Just once, I'd like to see teams make a stand and not give in.
