I admit, I don't follow the Olympics too much, though I like summer better than winter. For me, the best part of the olympics is seeing people from other countries fail.
But I always root for the Americans obviously. Should be interesting to see if Michael Phelps wins all 8 golds, breaking the record of my fraternity brother, Mark Spitz.
I love how he barely won medal number 2 yesterday, in the relay, where the US made a miraculous comeback against the French. The best part is that the French not only choked, but they would have had a world record if not for the comeback. Way to break the world record and lose anyway.
The French surrendered in the middle of the race.

Heres the deal with me and the Olympics. If I could find things I would be interested in watching easier, I may watch a bit. What happens is NBC and their other channels do these 4-6 hour blocks featuring "swimming, equestrian, cycling" etc, with no time breaks for any of it. If I knew one thing i wanted to see was on at 315, I may tune in.
These Olympics have little fanfare it seems, as in people caring. I know they are being pushed, but it does not feel special to me.

I think that's the same with all olympics. You have a good point about timing. I bet if you researched, you would be able to find out what's on and when. But that requires effort, and 99 percent of the people won't make that effort.
I never care too much about the olympics, but a lot of people really do. It's one of those things that I will tune in when there's NOTHING on, but holy crap it makes me fall asleep fast.
I always enjoy when Americans win and always root for them. But holy crap I really love watching people from other countries fail. I get far more entertained.
The whole thing with that swim relay was awesome because not only did we beat the French, the French star shot off his mouth about the Americans before the race, and HE was the one who coughed up the lead at the end.

My buddy asked me about the olympics in 2000, he was like have you been watching the Olympics? I was like how many Yankees are there, he said uh, none, and I said that is the level of my interest towards it.
What turns me off on the stupid olympics, is that they want baseball and softball out, there's no golf, but they have all that x-games malarky.

Actually, I have researched for a clearer schedule, but the Olympic Committe is in cahoots with NBC, and it seems they are purposely vague. They want people to tune in for the bulk, instead of hopping in and out to see a designated timed event. For things like the soccer games and such, you can nail down a time. Lots of stuff is on in the overnight. I can always DVR blocks of programming and find what I want, but I dont have much space available on the DVR.
All in all, I keep a small eye towards whats going on, but they dont have me hooked, no way.

I don't care about most of these sports for the other three years and 50 weeks of the four-year Olympic period, so it's hard for me to give a shit about them during these two weeks.

Now that it's all over, I will say that the "Redeem Team" and the pending exclusion of baseball altogether from The Olympics has left a sour taste in my mouth.
The Redeem Team was a team of spoiled, petulant babies and assholes, and what better team to represent this country, seeing how we have acted like spoiled petulant assholes in regards to the Olympics. Historically the USA dominated basketball with college/amateur players. So what happens, the rest of the world's amateur (allegedly) athletes catch up to us and we piss and wine and cry about letting us send pros. Why, just because we, as a nation, felt emasculated, like our dicks shrunk two inches because USA winning the basketball gold was no longer a foregone conclusion. So we cry and get our way with the Dream Team, who were a good enough group of guys, but the concept still smacked of sour grapes. But this Redeem Team was just nauseating. I don't feel entirely good about it, but as the minutes wound down on the Gold Medal game, I was pulling for Spanish miracle comeback, just so complete cock-suckers like Carmello Anthony and Kobe Bryant wouldn't feel that sense of vindication.
And then, to top it off, the President of The Olympics, when asked if the reason that baseball is being eliminated is that there aren't pros involved. His answer was something to the effect of....Of course, when you've got Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Roger Federer, etc....the lack of the world's best in baseball leaves a lot to be desired.
What a bunch of SHIT! Whatever happened to the real spirit of pure competition amongst the world's greatest amateur (and don't take amateur to mean deficient skills....it means, playing for love of the sport, and not a paycheck) athletes.
I would love for the USA to revert to sending nothing but college baseball, basketball, tennis players.
