So this goes back to the "war on Christmas" Cho and a few of us so healthily and spiritably debated a couple of weeks back. Friggin' Patchogue, Long Island, after so many years of tradition stumbled over themselves to rename "The Christmas Parade" to the "Holiday Parade."
Yeah, this is a minor salvo in this war, but its bunk nonetheless. So Felix Grucci, bless the man, said "if you do this, I pull my fireworks." Folks, these fireworks, which were a total DONATION, drew THOUSANDS to this annual tradition. After it appeared a deal was indeed worked out, something went zonky over the weekend, and Patchogue held firm. So Grucci, bless the man once again, said "F U" and took his fireworks and is heading home.
If I ever had made a point to attend this shindig, I would curtail it starting this year. I know many that will.
Christmas is now a dirty word! What a joke.

I'm Jewish (albeit not religious at all), and I've never had a problem with Christmas. I've never taken offense at parties being referred to as Christmas parties instead of holiday parties, and if people wish me a Merry Christmas, I've never felt the need to retort with a snide, "Happy Hannukah."
That being said, Christmas music and decorations have been starting earlier and earlier, and that's really getting on my last nerve -- not because I'm anti-Christmas, but because I really don't need to start hearing the same shit over and over after Halloween. Thanksgiving through Christmas is ENOUGH!

I have to disagree on your last point, but maybe its cause I am simply a big kid who gets giddy around the holidays. There are some different reasonings for the early influx of Christmas and holiday tunes. One, to start bringing in the holiday money. I cant begrudge stores for changing their thematics and trying to pull people like me, who are all agog when they hear Christmas bells.
Also, lets take something silly like Christmas music all the time on the radio. Reason stations like CBS FM and LIte-FM do this is, believe it or now, ratings improve dramaticaly! Ad time gets more expensive. Its obviously not you, 9, but there is a market for it. And you know when there is a market for something, it should be catered to.
There are many other options...turn the dial. Stay out of the malls.
Your point is fair and valid.

I also agree that the Christmas music starting around Halloween is annoying. Like we really need to see that Rockettes Radio City Commericial and that annoying jingle when it's still 70 degrees?
But that's not so much a Christmas issue as it as a general holiday issue.
The political correctness of the holiday season, when it's not necessary, is just a load of crap. But what Tom is talking about does prove a point. This is another example of how liberals have ruined this country. It wasn't conservatives that woke up one day and decided that Christmas was a dirty word.

When I was in high school, we had to start preparing for the Christmas concert as soon as school started. I went to a Catholic school so it was and still is called a Christmas concert. If that wasn't enough, I was in All City Marching Band and there was another series of Christmas music that needed to be learned. With that said, by the time December rolled along, I had enough with the damn music and I didn't even get around to shopping.
There were a few places around here that put up decorations in September. That's sick. Whatever happened to decorating in stages? Halloween stuff in October, Thanksgiving stuff goes up in November and stays up until Santa shows up at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade which will be followed by the Christmas/Hanukah stuff.

Again, I have to disagree with those whining over early Christmas decorations. The point of stores is to SELL, and the Christmas stuff helps to that end. And not everyone is as Grincy or Scroogey as you guys, some of us are in a good mood seeing that stuff up, even in early November.
Dollars dont lie, more money is spent in November than any other month but December, and thats partly cause of that holiday atmosphere you guys are saying is out too early.

Preparing for a Christmas concert in September is much different. A show takes time. That makes sense. But you're also not throwing the holiday in people's faces. It's a holiday--not a season.

I think we're all in agreement, though, that the PC aspect of it is a bunch of crap. I've never felt like Kyle from South Park and wandered the streets singing, "I'm a Jew, a lonely Jew, I'd be merry, but I'm Hebrew, on Christmas." Christmas is a great holiday (although Charles Schulz was dead on about how commercialized it's become), and Christmas parties, Merry Christmas, etc. never bothered me in the least.

they couldn't even wait for the day to end, and completely skipped over thanksgiving

I hate that Christmas starts in August. When I was working for Sears, we would get the first shipment of Christmas items about early to mid August. Given this economy, I can see why stores are putting so much emphasis on the Christmas/Hanukkah/what ever the hell you celebrate sales. They are desperate for sales, and this is their last ditch effort to salvage their year.
And as to Felix Grucci...he is a devout Roman Catholic and did what he should have.
The people who want "Holiday Parades and "Celebrations of the Harvest" are wack jobs. I have no problem with people wishing me Merry Christmas OR Happy Hanukkah OR Eid Mubarak. What I have a problem with is commercialism and disregard of personal beliefs (and the ability to express them) by liberal commie pinko bastards.

Kill Christmas altogether! I hate the holiday season...not to be too somber and bring the mood down, but it always makes me think of my kids and the paltry amount of time I get with them.

I think each holiday gets less special when you have 6 MONTHS of it... seriously, I feel less and less festive at Christmas after being inundated with it since before Halloween. I love Thanksgiving & this year I have to work all day... Christmas I am off & I'd rather be working.
Yes, I am a Grinch.

I love it and I love that it goes on for over a month. And we put up our tree one week from tonight.

And we put up our tree one week from tonight. Which is EXACTLY when thinking about Christmas should start. Except for Crazy Eddie -- he gets an exemption.

My tree goes up Christmas week & stays up at least until my birthday... and some years until deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs... it's easier to take it down once all the needles have fallen off

I think DECEMBER is Christmas time....no scratch that....I think Thanksgiving EVENING officially starts "Christmas Time."
We do a secret santa in the family, and we draw names Thanksgiving evening.
For the record....the 4th of July is and always will be my favorite holiday.

I agree. One holiday at a time. However, I do start Christmas shopping in late October or early November.
4th of July used to be my favorite holiday until my grandmother passed away. Her birthday was the 3rd and mine is the 6th so we always had a big bbq in my granmother and aunt and uncle's backyards to celebrate the 4th and our birthdays (they lived next door to each other.) My aunt and uncle still have a bbq every year but it just isn't the same.

I don't have a lot of shopping to do so I tend to put it off until around mid-December. My husband tends to snoop around so I will have to stash his stuff at my office until December 24th.
Last year, he happened to take a look at one of my receipts and was able to determine what I bought him.

I could care less what they call it. The whole conservative Fox news 'War on Christmas' angle retards like O'wingbag likes to tout is nothing but creating something to talk about. Hell the same dudes on FOX who whine about it, whine about the Guitar Hero 3 Hedi Klum ad, saying it's bad for kids, run the ad during the show, then cave in saying as a guy they like it. Well, I guess you need something to talk about aside from how gay being Republican is.
The war on Christmas is a crock. Show me one person who is totally baffled by what 'Happy Holidays' means, or one child who is clueless to what Christmas is because of it, and I will hop aboard. Until then, Happy holidays to all my Republican friends and have a very Obama new year.

Silly gays...
FOXNEWS.COM HOME > WORLD Dutch Gay Group Plans 'Pink Christmas' With Two Josephs, Two Marys
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — A Dutch gay group said Monday it has planned a "Pink Christmas" festival for the first time in Amsterdam, featuring a manger stall with two Josephs and two Marys.
Other attractions in the 10-day festival include parties, an open-air market, gay-themed films, an ice skating rink and religious services on Dec. 25.
ProGay group chairman Frank van Dalen said Monday the event is intended to increase the choices for homosexual men and women during the Christmas holiday week.
"Right now, there's not much to do," he said.
The festival will also encourage people to think about homosexuality and religion, Van Dalen added.
Some Christian groups protested. The organization Christians for Truth said the idea "mocks the core concepts of Evangelism."
"By putting Joseph and Mary down as homosexuals, a cracked human fantasy is being tacked on to history from the Bible," the organization said in a statement urging the city and organizers to cancel the event.
The manger, with actors playing the parts of Joseph and Mary, goes on display Dec. 21.
Van Dalen said it was not intended to be offensive, but was meant as a "wink" at heterosexual assumptions.
"Christmas is about more than religion, it's also about love and families, not to mention shopping," he said. "Two men or two women can form a family too these days, even one with a child."
Gay marriage was legalized in the Netherlands in 2001, and adoption rules are the same here for gay or straight couples.
Van Dalen said the Pink Christmas initiative was also intended to help promote Amsterdam as a gay capital after a decline in its reputation in recent years.
A study last month found that homophobia is an ingrained problem in the city despite the Dutch reputation for tolerance, and physical attacks on gay men are a weekly affair.

This is a bit stupid. This is case of behaving preposterously flamboyant for no other reason than being antagonistic toward "straight" people.
I don't begrudge the gay communities right to celebrate Christmas, and I don't begrudge them the right to be GAY.
But I do begrudge them the right be historically inaccurate. The universally accepted historical recount of what happened on Dec. 25, 0000 B.C. does not include any gay or lesbian couples.
