As all of you know, Heckle House sponsors the baseball-reference.com player page of former Yankee great Claudell Washington. www.baseball-reference.com/w/washicl01.shtmlAnyway, periodically, it is important to remember our Claudell Washington heritage, and re-live this great man's historical moments. So with that, I introduce this new feature at Heckle House: THIS DATE IN CLAUDELL WASHINGTON HISTORY!!!! April 4, 1984--Playing in the 1195th game of his illustrious career, Claudell Washington, then an Atlanta Brave, went 2 for 4 with a double and a HR, raising his average to an astronomical .375, and leading the Braves to a 4-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The HR was the 88th career dinger for Claudell, and broke a 0-0 tie in the first inning.

April 9, 1978, playing in his 485th career game, Texas Rangers right fielder Claudell Washington went 0 for 3 in a 7-1 loss against the World Champion New York Yankees. Alas, the great Claudell had no answer for Ed Figueroa that day. But had Claudell possibly had a career day, and the Yankees lost that game, they would not have ended the season one game behind Boston, and Bucky Dent would be long forgotten.
So thank you Claudell, for going 0 for 3 on April 9, 1978.

April 10, 1982--
It is often said that the best hitter in a lineup bats third. Naturally, for the 1982 division winning Atlanta Braves, led by Joe Torre, that covered 3 spot was held for none other than our hero, Claudell Washington.
Washington went 1 for 5 on this day in 1982, but what a hit it was. With Brett Butler on second in the first inning and one out, Washington did his job by hitting a double and gaining the RBI. This game changing moment helped lead the Braves to victory, defeating the Houston Astros 8-6 and upping their record to 4-0.

Michael Kay just read off a feat (can't remember what it was) that only two Yankees have accomplished...one of them being (in Kay's words) "The Hall Of Fame bound Claudell Washington"
