More proof that Kobe Bryant is a fucking douche.
He announced....yes ANNOUNCED as in he went out of his way to gather a collection of press representatives to purposely state that from now own he will be wearing his signature line of low-top basketball shoes. A blatant PR stunt for the shoe company and Kobe's marketability.
I hope he sprains his fucking ankle in these shoes, and the line of shoes tanks in the retail stores.
I fucking HATE Kobe Bryant.

That's the way the game is played. Shoe sales are more important than anything else. Look how much more $ Jordan got from Nike than from the Bulls.

How does a TEAM, who's livelihood depends on the success of their marquee players, allow this kind of horseshit.
The teams ought to be able to tell the players AND the shoe companies to keep your malarky OFF THE COURT!

"Look how much more $ Jordan got from Nike than from the Bulls."
But.....Jordan never let his shoe contract determine how he played the game or potentially compromise his equipment.
Jordan was ALL ABOUT THE GAME, Kobe is all about Kobe.

I didn't say I liked it or agreed with it, but that's how it is.

So I listen to a lot of Sports Talk Radio. One local Souther California show I listen to somewhat frequently is Steve Hartman's show. Hartman is an unabashed SoCAL homer - UCLA grad, worked in PR for the Raiders during the L.A. days, loves the Bruins, Dodgers, Lakers.
Hartman's now defunct show, The Loose Cannons, featured former Lakers backup center Mychal Thompson as his partner.
Thompson also parlayed his partnership with Hartman on KLAC (the Lakers radio station) into a partnership with former YES Network/Yankees Post Game personality Spiro Dedes, as the Lakers on-air radio team.
Now, if you've ever listened to Mychal Thompson on The Loose Cannons, you'd know that he's really not a very knowledgeable sports fan, has very immature ideologies about life, and is really...just not all that bright. He seems like a genuine, good guy, but just really kind of dopey. He's said some amazingly stupid things on air.
Tonight took the cake (well for me...if you're not an NBA fan, this might not seem like a big deal to you).
He said....when Andrew Bynum (Lakers Center) and "Grant Oden" (never mind the fact that his name is Greg) both get healthy, they will be the marquee matchup in the NBA for the next TEN TO FIFTEEN YEARS! He said this nonsense on a Lakers broadcast. I couldn't believe that Spiro didn't laugh in his face.
Lakers fans, media following, and personnel are truly the most myopic, unrealistic, glass is half-full bunch of people in ALL OF SPORTS.

I think Bynum can become a truly great center, but you're right: That's still an idiotic statement.

I think Bynum, if he's lucky, can become another......well......Mychal Thompson.
"Grant" Oden is going nowhere. He'll be another Ralph Sampson....a bust.

Bynum has a lot more upside. He came straight out of high school. Oden looks (and plays) like a 50-year-old.

Shaq to Cleveland!!!
As blockbuster as it SOUNDS...Shaq is OLD, DONE, and can't even play a full season anymore. I'm not impressed.

It's still an upgrade over Varejao and Ilgauskas. Ilgauskas is old too but when one gets tired the other can come in. It should work out well for them but Shaq needs to keep Dwight Howard in check.
The draft is tonight too. One of my favorite nights of the year. My two teams pick back to back (Golden State and the Knicks). Expect a lot of deals and people getting traded. It's real interesting that Minnesota has 4 1st round picks. Do they package them and move up? I wonder where Rubio ends up.
Can't wait!

Yao's career is over. Same foot. Not healed. Definitely out all of next season and some of the year after. Face it. He already had screws put it in and it still shattered. Feel bad for the dude. Big man had a great presence. Could play the position and even hit his free throws at a remarkable percentage. Now we have to get Artest out of there.

The Nets will do anything for you to come to their gamessports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/The-Nets-will-do-anything-for-you-to-come-to-the?urn=nba,225353 The New Jersey Nets are struggling. They have the league's worst record at 6-53. Because of that, they're last in attendance.
To combat this they've tried a few bizarre promotions over the years. First, they gave away tickets to unemployed workers, and also gave them career advice. Then, if you bought a 10-game ticket plan you got a jersey that featured not just a Net, but also an opposing player.
This Friday, the Nets will unleash another in their long line of minor league-esque promos:
Their latest promotion will be unveiled Friday, when the Nets play the Orlando Magic. New Jersey residents 18 or older who attend the game will get a coupon that they can redeem at a Roni Deutch Tax Center to get their state income tax done free.
No one likes doing their taxes, but is it worth having to go to a Nets game? At just a $29 value, I'm not so sure.
But you have to admire the gumption of Roni Deutch, the eponymous tax attorney offering the promotion. She says, "The hallmark of a strong company is one that aligns with young companies. I'm a betting woman, and I think the Nets are going to win a championship this decade."
Probably not, but she's not the first to make such a proclamation.
