Is no one watching this?
I am.
Karim Garcia sucks!!!! HAHAHA! In a late inning route of South Africa, Karim Garcia standing on 2nd couldn't get home in time despite a legit single that rolled to fairly deep right field.
What a chump.

Speaking of failing, did you happen to catch Bernie Williams being a complete burden? Good thing Yadier is a beast.
I don't like the mercy rule. Let him play! I want to see a 37-0 game!

I hate the WBC. I only root against teams that have Yankees on them so they can get back to camp and down to the business of trying to win a championship in the real season.
The only exception will be if USA makes it to the finals. Then they're there, and might as well win.

The WBC is a mask for clubs to gauge international prospects against current major leaguers (hi dice-k!) and to gauge their own questionables. Tampa threw JP Howell into the WBC. Why? because he wanted to 'help his country'? no. because they needed to figure out whether they wanted to keep him on the roster. It's hard to gauge potential against another mlb team who's phoning it in during some ST game. But I do agree with you that someone like Jeter has no purpose there, other than to be the 'face'. He couldn't possibly gain anything from the experience, at least not on any useful level.

Right. I would be fine with it as long as no important people went. If a Yankee backup or prospect was sent, fine. But not someone that needs to prepare for the season.

Jeter's just a showoff.
Speaking of Jeter, none of the last 56 MLB teams that have won a playoff round have won one with a SS older than Jeter is now. Just another interesting factoid, in regards to Jeter's dwindling range, which was already bad.

Yeah, I think Bernie, with that play, just about squashed any ideas that anyone had that he might still be able to play.

The only person in, around, or affiliated with baseball that thought Bernie could still play was Bernie.
He's like a baseball stalker at this point.

The WBC is NOT a disguised over-glorified scouting camp. That would at least be a baseball reason. I think the motives for the WBC are a bit more sinister than that.
The WBC is about money. It's about marketing the game worldwide...it's about exposing major league players to the globe so they can sell team merch, as well as hopefully converting some global fans into fans of players, so they can sell Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs gear in South Africa and The Netherlands and Korea, etc....and MLB Gameday Audio, and MKB.TV subscriptions worldwide.
That being said, I like the spectacle itself.

Didn't see it but read it -- he completely misplayed a fly ball in LF leading to a run, then got thrown out by a truck length trying to score from 2B on a single.

The play I was referring to was his huff and puff around the bases, trying to score when it was still 1-0... with a horribly ugly slide to boot.

He didn't even really seem really out of shape... just, old and tired. Like you said, hopefully this will reiterate to him that his career over and he should invest in a car dealership or a chain of Gold's Gyms.

I didnt see much of him up close, so he very well could have been out of shape - but it didn't seem it.
He could be a bartender at Mo's restaurant... who wouldn't want Bernie serving their drinks! then inbetween shifts, he could bust out his mad guitar skills.

Bernie does not have the personality to be a bartender. He has the personality of a guy sitting in the corner of the bar, ogling everyone having fun, wishing he could have fun too.

Way for the Captain to kill a late inning rally getting thrown out trying to steal second.
USA is in next round, regardless.

Nice fucking range by Captain in the 8th in a 4-3 game. Are "we" meaning the US in this to win it or in it for equal playing time? Rollins DH'ing & Jeter at SS? WTF is going on?

I've given up on the WBC. Its a shimmy of a sham.
A cardboard cutout of Rollins has more range than the real Derek Jeter. We've covered that already.

Unfortunate. Would rather have Jeter back in camp trying to get ready for the real season. I'm only rooting for the USA if they make the final game. Otherwise, Jeter can get back to the team that actually pays him. Oh well, at least he didn't leave Team USA with an injury--yet.
