Melky is now officially a 4th outfielder.

The only thing better would be for him to be a fourth outfielder on another team.
The good thing about this unexciting news is that now Gardner will be exposed for the sub-mediocre Major Leaguer that he is, and maybe the Yanks will try to go outside of the organization and get themselves a real center-fielder.
Maybe the Angels can hand us down their scraps....don't they have like 15 outfielders?

Well, the hope is that Gardner/Melky can hold the job down until Austin Jackson is able to take it. Gardner is plucky. People are going to root for him in the same fashion they rooted for Bubba Crosby, except hopefully, Gardner will do better.

In this thread's top pic of Gardner, he looks a bit like the older brother from The Wonder Years.

Although I am, by no means, Gardner's biggest fan....
He has show a real talent for bunting for base-hits and has caused some fielding/throwing miscues with pressure he's applied on the base-paths.
Speed kills.
So my question is, how fast is Gardner really? Is he fast for the Yankees, who aren't really know for employing burners....or is he fast in major-league-wide terms?
