i have a 27 point lead over tom with just 5 days left in the baseball season. justin is still lurking around only 132 points off the lead so he is not out of it at this point either. tom has NO pitching going tonight. justin has no pitching going tonight. i have roy halladay going tonight. time for me to expand this lead like tom has expanded his gut over the years. lol. tom must want to crawl into a hole after pretty much announcing he was going win overalls easily about 2 weeks ago. dropping like a fuckin rock ever since. lmfao.
heres to another complete game shutout from the only player i have, roy halladay. (adam wainwright, wandy rodriguez, mark reynolds, chone figgins, troy tulowitski, carl crawford, shin shoo choo) mean anything to anyone these days?

You do have Halladay going, but its in Boston, lets see how that goes. And tomorrow I have Cliff Lee, so its my turn.
When did i EVER say I was going to win this league? I defy anyone to find me saying that.
As to Halladay, its fact you would be buried if you did not have him. You also would have been buried if I had Brandon Webb for even half the year. I didnt even have him for a start.
Oh, and for all your throwing around your "hitters" - my hitting outscores you most nights. Lets not get into a hitting discussion.
It may not be meant to be for me. Josh Johnson left with a 4-1 lead, which was promptly coughed up. There went 12 points. The Yankee win - yay - added another 6 points to Larrys score, which would have dissapeared with a Burnett loss. Oh well.

Tom has blown 98 points in the last week and a half.
And Larry blew a 130 point lead to me in 2 days a couple of weeks ago. I have nothing to be ashamed over, Ive been the most consistent team in this league for months.

Well, you got 45 points from Halladay last night, and were only able to up your lead to 64 points. Dont cry for me, Im ok here.
Let me just give you bottom lines, in regards to Halladay being the sole reason you are winning this league right now, and potentially for the year.
Me - 64 points behind. Halladay - over 80 points in the last 5 days
Bingo.

It looks like the USS Tom has hit an iceberg and is getting ready to sink. Led by Roy Halladay, Larry has opened up a 64 point lead on Tom in the overalls, with just 4 days left in the season. While it's not over, Larry is now in "choke" territory if he loses. But there's a reason that Larry has a reputation of being the best in season manager in the league. With the big prize on the line, Larry stepped up his game and is now not only likely to take home the gold, but the session as well.
Larry is on target to win this league by a nose, which in his case is a pretty solid margin.
But there are 4 days left. Can Tom pull out a comeback?
It's a shame Justin mount a run in the final session and make it an interesting 3 way race.

Best "in season manager?" Sorry, not buying this. AGAIN, he is where he is right now cause of two gigantic starts by the horse he drafted, not some astute pickup in the middle of the year. Simple math shows you I am right there with him, aside from these two stupid Halladay complete games. Give me a break.
Take away those two Halladay games this session and Larry is 5th in the session right now.
If he was beating me all over, trust me, I would say it. But he's not, hes lucky he has a guy whose manager will pitch him till his arm falls off just to get a shot to keep him in Toronto by sucking up glory wins in garbage time.

As the Slickster might say, "turn out the lights, the party's over." Another piss poor night by Tom, highlighted by a miserable 1 point effort by Hamels (hurt by the Phillies' offense), and a shit outing by Jose Valverde.
The result is that Larry gained another 10 points, and Tom will have a difficult time making those points up in just 3 days. Mathematically, it is still possible, but it's very unlikely. Tom is screwed.
Some things of note--
Assuming John can get another 60 points in 3 days, 2009 will mark the first year that 5 different teams broke the 7000 point barrier. If Pops doesn't score 111 more points, his team will be the worst team ever since we adopted the modern scoring system in 2004 (with the 6 point save). Kwik's 2003 team though will likely go down in history as our version of the 1962 Mets, only scoring 5083 points when saves were 10 points.
Just a reminder that there will not be a session winner on Sunday because the final session is always one day longer. If there is a one game playoff with Detroit and Minnesota, it will only count for our league if Yahoo counts the points. Historically, Yahoo does NOT count the points.

In the last two weeks I have grown to despise the Philadelphia arms. They have boned me in wretched fashion. Well, it is what it is.
Let me remind you of this, however....a couple of weeks ago, I picked up 130 points on Larry in all of 2 days. Tonight he has yet another pitching advantage, but I make that up tomorrow and such. If I can get a Halladay like performance in there somewhere and he doesnt....well.
Bottom line is I cant wait for this to end, I dont like this at all, and I wish I never played fantasy baseball.

lol. i have a 100 point lead now. with 2 days left. wow, tom, your team hit the wall. i knew it would. you have 5 pitchers, i have 3. i will win!!! have fun with the best hitting team in the league. and 2nd place!!! lmfao....
dont cry over halladay. i had the same fate against cliff lee on many occassions and i didnt cry. there are many reasons why i am likely to win the big prize here, only one of which is a great starter like roy halladay. kiss my white ass. i hope you watch all 8 starts this weekend and suffer like a motherfucker!!!!

Im not upset about any of this. This was never mine to win, I led this league for all of 2 weeks. I tried to bust Larrys party is all.
I still have 6 starts this weekend to make sense of it all and keep Justin in 3rd, make a better showing towards the top.
But again, this was the Roy Halladay show. Congratulations for drafting him.

In what has to be the most shocking, unexpected, and miraculous endings in the HISTORY of this league, Justin pulled off a miracle and took second place from Tom in the final hours of the 2009 baseball season.
Larry's brilliant final session, in which he scored an unofficial 687.67 points, wrapped up the league late last week.
Tom went into the final day leading Justin by 72 points. He scored a respectable 48 points in his last day of work, though. Tom went into the final day with 3 starters going. Unfortunately, 2 of them had crappy games, getting a combined zero points. The third pitched 8 innings though.
Tom's hitting only was able to muster 24 points on the final day of action.
Justin needed a hail mary miracle, and GOT IT!
127 points to win second place by 7.
Jason Kubel hit 2 HRs and scored 17 points on his own. Prince Fielder also hit 2 HRs for 15. Nelson Figueroa won the second place trophy with a 48 point effort.
Felix Hernandez got the win as well.
Absolutely EVERYTHING broke right for Justin on the last day, and BAM, he takes second place.
It may not have been his third title, but it was a return to prominence for the Swinging Dicks, who have been noticeably absent from the top of the standings for half a decade.
And Larry said Justin was done. I told you all not to sleep on Justin's team.
Speaking of Larry, he joins Justin and Knoblauch in the "two titles" club. Hell of a season from a guy who almost missed the draft because he was the only one in the country not to realize the clocks changed to daylight savings time. He drafted well, he managed well in season, and deserves that second title.
As for the session, Larry wins, though it's unofficial until I get home and do the math on my home computer's excel sheet (so there are no mistakes). But unofficially, Larry wins the session by 80 points, so that's just a formality.
This is the first time 5 different teams scored more than 7000 points. Well done.
And as far as I know, the Detroit/Minnesota game will NOT count in the standings. Yahoo traditionally never counts Game 163, even though I think they should.

Hell of a season. I know there has been a lot of chatter down the stretch, and I know I wasn't involved in it, but I do peek in and keep abreast. In fact, I don't work out much lately, so I seem to be well on my way to keeping 2 breasts. But that's a topic for another time.
Count me among the absolutely floored that my efforts came to fruition. Amy told me not to even look at it yesterday during the day and just concentrate on football. While watching my beloved Broncos progress to 4-0, I literally leapt (I know, right) out of my chair when I received Tom's text that my "one-day rental" pulled off the miracle. Needed every bit of his performance yesterday. Oddly enough, my debate on whom to acquire for the final day came down to Cesar Ramos or Nelson Figueroa. Tom ended up taking Ramos after I made my choice. Ramos ended up with -1.
One thing needs to be cleared up here: One player's performance didn't win it or lose it for anyone. I say that every year, and every year it is proven. One need only to look to last year's unfortunate performance my the Dicks where I had the top hitter and top pitcher in the league...and finished 10th. It's a combination of players that win. Larry's win was as much Adam Wainwright as it was Roy Halladay. And you can't beat yourself up over leaving points on your bench, or studs screwing your team down the stretch. Everyone leaves points on their bench, and just about every star has a hiccup somewhere, whether it's in May or October. The points all count the same. And everyone has injury problems or players that just don't live up to the billing. Sizemore, Peavy, Webb...we all had the problem. And really, of the three of us, Tom had the only first-round pick that performed to the level of expectation. The fact is, the best you can do is put your team in position to win. Fate will take it from there.
I will say that my point total shouldn't necessarily have been a shock. I scored 126 points on the final day last season, so it's not unprecedented or unplanned, frankly. But the way it happened was unbelievable. I am indeed humbled in that respect by this crazy game we call fantasy baseball.
Putting aside my chest-pounding for being the first loser, I'd like to congratulate Larry and welcome him into the two-timers club. I look forward to leaving Knoblauch and him to their devices next year when I start the three-timers club.
As for Tom, I will say that I was rooting for him down the stretch. If someone else had to win aside from me, I was hoping it would be him. I know he has put a lot of effort into this, and you'd figure that his major-market-level knowledge, if I may draw an analogy, would yield at least one title to this point. I don't know if I pulled an Aaron Boone or he pulled a Steve Bartman, but this game does come down to plenty of luck once you put your team in a position to win. I feel your pain, brother. As my girl roots for her beloved Cubs, I am a die-hard fan of Sheriff Tom.
Also, great job by Nettles and Walkman John this season. Shouldn't go unnoticed. There, I noticed it.
Congratulations to Jose for sucking again. Should have made that bet this year. Oh well. I suppose I can buy 15 bottles of Beam if I so desire.
Way to go, Knoblauch, for having a championship hangover in more than one sense.
Last, and certainly least, a fond farewell to Pops. A charter member of this league...it will be sad to see him go. Pops is certainly dedicated...perhaps even enough to rethink the rule. But I'm sure there are people waiting impatiently to send him packing and replace his donation to next year's pot.
Good fight...good night.

The final standings are up, and I unlocked the thread so you can comment away. There are some interesting useless facts about the league this year, but I will withhold them because they are a little too soon to reveal with the sting being so strong right now.
The session is official, and Larry wins that one as well.

I don't know about that--somethings in this league fade, but like all leagues, when you have 8 seasons, you have history, records, patterns, and stupid stuff.
That never gets old.

Well, I have not said much to date, but talked to Justin a fair deal after the other days events. Congrats to him. He just kept at it, I obviously could not shake him, cause he passed me.
I wont congratulate Larry, cause he has been totally ungracious and a terrible winner, with his snide remarks via text to me regading my teams "collapse."
I will say this. Its funny how going into the year many said the 3 benchmarks for this league are me, Larry, and Justin. The 3 most competitive, the 3 with the most to say. And look at your top 3. I take personal pride in Nettles' strong performance, I pushed for him to be in this league, and this is why. Yet another "money mark" would have been nice, but competition brings out the best in all of us.
I too look forward to next year, even though this last 2 months mentally busted me up. But as Justin said, thats GOOD, cause if that is happening you are "in the money."
I have said this before, but sweeping changes are coming next year in regards to the look of the league. There will probably be around 4-5 people not coming back for various reasons. We have some very strong candidates on the cusp of coming in, I will be talking to the elders of this league on our next moves in that regard.
Walkman John, I want to shout you out as well for a job well done. We have a very good foundation to build upon here.
Balls, thank you for your help in crunching these numbers and keeping us updated. While I wish you would take a greater role in the day to day, I appreciate what you do for this league.

Talk about mentally busting. Fantasy baseball, if you're really into it (and particularly when there is cash money on the line) is a real paradox. It enhances baseball and, at the same time, ruins it in some ways. Tom and I are serious baseball fans (not saying anyone else isn't...just speaking from experience). We are true baseball gormandizers - he relishes the late-night San Diego-Arizona matchup on the tube as much as I perplex my co-workers at night airing an Oakland-Seattle tilt in lieu of the many musical options available on the XM. A good number of us don't need anything "on the line" to enjoy a baseball game, but it does put a little more interest in that late meaningless West Coast game in July....or even in September.
This was a great race this year for me, particularly because I finally snapped out of my funk. But what had just as much to do with it is that the three of us know how to get under each others' skin. Larry and I have had our share of verbal battles in the past. Tom and I have epic drag-out text battles with each other that will never make the public forum. And, of course, Larry and Tom's barbs are headline news around these parts.
When you put the rivalry, the ego, and the cash on the line, it becomes emotionally and physically draining. But it's a great feeling. Losing sucks, but the competition is a great rush. Don't get me wrong...if I had to choose between the Yankees winning the World Series or my fantasy team winning this league, I would choose a Yankee title 100x out of 100. But I want to win this thing bad every year.
Looking forward to relaxing a bit and licking my wounds, but this was a lot of fun this year. The best part is, I still have time to actually enjoy baseball this year. And not a moment too soon.

Congrats to Larry on win #3 you are the King of bleacher Fantast baseball. Justin way to serge in to second place on the last day. Tom Way to spit the bit. Not only did Larry take your lunch money finishing in first place. but you got cut off on the way to the finish line by Justin. My team was dun when my first two picks went down for the year. My pitching sucked too. Santana and ZimBo lost time to the D.L. It just not my year , Now I must take a year off & regroup. I wish each & every one luck next year, beatting Tom. With that I bid A'due to you all till 2011. By witch time Tom will still not have his face up on the board. LOL

I was simply giving you news updates. I also told you when I was in trouble cause one of your arms was blowing it out. You seem to forget THOSE updates easily enough.
Again, I defy you to find me an instance where I rubbed anything anywhere, and where I even showed the slightest bit of confidence in where i stood.
You got real lucky, but that will turn. The mere fact that no one wanted to see you win shows how classless a winner you are. At least Justin shows grace in winning. He has a right to be proud.

whatever you want to beleive dude. those text updates didnt happen until august. after the trade deadline when halladay shit the bed for 5 straight starts and cliff lee was acting like doc on the mound. when you gained back all those points. seriously, did you not think i was following what was going on? how would you feel if i texted you every time your team was fucking up? you sent 10 texts gloating to the 1 text telling me something useful. its all good, it all came back to get you in the end. i will break down the season when i have some time. from my team and i will give your team its due because its deserved.
do yourself a favor and read some of the posts you put up there. while you were coming from somewhere around 10th in may to get a hold of 4th place, i went from around 8th to 2nd in the same time frame. anytime something is noted of my team, you chime in. why? jealousy? my story was bigger. im honestly so glad i beat you. not even for the money. you just dont deserve it. the second you get hot and it looks like things might fall your way, you talk a bunch of shit. kinda like a mets fan would. and isnt always so funny to watch the miserable at the end. what a metaphor. ill give you your due. your team was incredible this year, you did a great job. in all honesty, i never for a minute thought i was going to hold onto 1st place. not from the second i took it over the day before the all star break. i thought your team was too solid. you had no bench, so you needed to stay healthy and you did. im pretty stunned i won to tell you the truth.
another note of contention, if philadelphia wouldve broken spring training with happ as a starter instead of fucking chan ho park, i wouldve smoked this league. i drafted him, watched them put him in relief and make park the #5 starter, then in may they sent him to the minors and i couldnt hold him anymore. if those idiots make the right move out of camp, im unstoppable. so i hear ya about the philly management. they fucked me too.

I would like to congratulate Larry for becoming a 2 time winner. He led this league for most of the season and he came back at the end when most teams in his position would probably give up. Congrats again.
Congratulations also to Justin for finishing second and to Tom for finishing third.
On my team there nothing much to say except that there is a huge gap in baseball knowledge between me and most of the members of this league. I am not a baseball fan, I am a Yankees fan. If the Yanks are not playing I will not "waste" my time watching the game. Due to other obligations I do not have the time to be watching sportscenter or checking all kinds of baseball websites for updates on who is injured or getting called up or the like. Basically between those obligations (which were very time consuming and stressfull this year) and the fact that I knew since session 4 or 5 that there was no way I could win this thing, I kind of gave up on this season. I was even surprised I won a session and was also "informed" by one of Toms texts that my team choked and he took a session from me at the last second.
Hopefully next season, with some of those "distractions" behind me and the technology needed to check on updates and stuff the Back in Black will be wining this league and joinng the 3 of you as 2 time champs.
Tom ... I guess I owe you a bottle or was it 2?
Basically I do have to agree in part with Larry. If you dish it out, you better be ready to take when the time comes.
