Normally, I would put this in the useless facts thread, but since it involves Tom and the public, and it's pretty funny, I'll share in its own thread.
I would think it's pretty safe to say that in his heyday, Tom was one of the more high profile guys in the bleachers. While he wasn't a celebrity, and may not have had the status of a Freddie (though that's debateable), due to his constant presence at games, and of course, the Tom drum, he definitely was the type of guy that people knew of, even if they didn't know him.
So this post isn't about most of the people that we know, who got to know Tom, and people who Tom helped bring into the bleacher population.
This is about those people on the fringe that knew OF Tom, but never really KNEW him.
So last night, after my "softball game," I was talking to someone about the bleachers and she made the following comment.
"So I heard that guy Tom died awhile back. That was pretty sad."
Just to clarify, I asked if she meant SHERIFF Tom.
"Yeah, you know, TomTomTom."
She told me that she was told this by someone who used to sit in the bleachers a lot when he was a teenager but was one of those guys that never rose up to the status of a regular.
So yes, there are people out there that think Tom has gone to that great bleacher entrance in the sky. I did correct her and let her know that Tom is alive and raising a family, and still comes back on occasion.

Thats awesome. I wonder how many people are running around with that in their head.
Did you ask how I "died?"

I don't think she knew how you died. You are just dead. My guess is that whoever told her that simply confused you with Ali Ramirez.

Wow I remember that Sheriff TIM guy. He use to go to all the games & sit in the bleachers. They'd have him on the big screen running up & down the Bleachers to the theme from Rookie & he'd do the TIM TIM TIM dance. How did he pass ?
That kind of reminds me of being on line for the Midnight movie with my girlfriend. the guy in front of us is telling his date how he is the Bass player for Organized Crime & how he opened for Black Flag last week. That was pretty funny as well.... I was the Bass Player for Organized Crime. The king is Dead ,Long live Sheriff Tom

I shall toss one back in Tom's honor. At least we will never have to look at that photo of him with the clowns ever again.

I called malarky.
Reports are that Tom was spotted having a drink with Abe Vigoda last night.
