Who are you kidding? You'd rather spend your time drinking and not going to the sporting event!

I have a vuvuzela app on my phone, it's piss your pants funny to annoy someone with that. Just gotta play the thing 3 times and someone is going to be losing their mind. I high;y recommend downloading a free version of this app on your phone. It's fucking hysterical.
And I don't care about the draws, in either sport. The fact that in a day or so there isn't going to be anymore draws it will go into penalty kicks makes the 1 point tie system important. I forgot who said it so I don't mean to take credit, but if the US/England game ends 1-0 England, USA is fucked. My team, Italy, needed that tie or would be fucked. Now it's time for penalty kicks to decide a game. I find nothing wrong with it, it's the way the game is played. It's adds a different element of strategy and unpredictability you don't see in other sports.
And Balls, you realize you're one of the few people who play softball and doesn't drink? To steal from Dr. Denis Leary, why do you think the balls are so big, so you can hit when you're shit faced. You play in the biggest drinking sport in the country and you're taking shots at other people drinking at other sports? You really are a ham 'n' egg-er.
And for the record, in hockey if you win in a shootout you get the 2 points for a win, and if you lose you get 1. The same as when there were ties in hockey each team would get a point. So they kept a basic part of hockey while making sure people like you get a winner. At first I was against it being an old school hockey fan, I miss the Patrick Division for fucks sake. But I ain't going to complain cause it makes the game different than other shit. It isn't like little league where everyone wins and they don't keep score. To me that's worse than busting your ass for x amount of time and being equal as the team or whatever you faced. As long as there is still competition that's all that should matter.

James, you talking about softball to me is like me talking about hockey to you. It doesn't work. While there is a lot of drinking involved with softball, it comes after the game. I can just think of two people who have shown up to a game blatantly shitfaced. One was a superstar that played like shit and even struck out. The other was a superstar that well, was phenomenal. It was actually pretty funny, but it also was a pickup game, not a league game.
Back to soccer, obviously a loss sucks. But losses are a part of every sport. I just feel that if you can't play well enough to win, you should lose. A draw is just not a kind of result I like, especially when watching a sport like soccer where there is so much effort and energy put into it.
Understood about hockey, but getting a reward when you lose in OT seems pretty weak. To give a ridiculous example--the lowest ranked playoff team had 88 points. You can win 6 games, and lose 76 OT games, and walk away with 88 points. Another team can go 43-39 and the team that lost 76 out of 82 games is ahead in the standings.

But a team that that wins 6 games is not going to make the playoffs no matter how many points they get from OT losses. It just can't happen. That's assuming the 7 other teams to make the playoffs from that conference are just as bad. It isn't likely what you're saying. It's possible, but not likely. The team that has 6 wins overall sucks, good teams will have over 6 wins in a month.

I'm only going by this year's standings. I saw a team make the playoffs with 88 points. Aren't POINTS what determines who goes to the playoffs?

Yeah, it goes by points first. But if two teams have 88 points, but only one can get into the playoffs, they go to wins next to decide standings. So a team with 6 wins, A) should be disbanded from the league, and B) would never make it to the playoffs over a team that wins more.

But that's a tiebreaker scenario. In this extreme example, let's say this team has the playoff spot outright, because the next closest team played NO OT games, and went 43-39. That's 86 points.

You're grasping at straws, it can't happen. It just isn't likely for a team to have 6 wins 50 shootout losses and still make the playoffs. Anyone who knows hockey knows it just can't happen. mathematically it can happen, but the odds of it happening are so remote and so slim it's just not gonna happen, ever.

But I'm not talking odds. I'm talking mathematically. A loss is a loss, whether you lose in regulation or in OT. I'm not saying other sports don't have flaws in their playoff systems, including baseball, but rewarding for a loss is not something that sits well with me.
And likewise, in soccer, all that work, to walk away with a draw just seems like a cop out.

But you're still talking like it can happen, it can't man. Jesus. Give it a rest. No team in the NHL will make it in with 7 wins and a draw is whatever you want it to be? Alright, cool?

Once again, a draw. So the US has played 2 games with nothing to show for it. I can't comment on a game that is played during work hours, but that's another game that should have had a winner. All that work for nothing.
