What do you guys make of all of this Mrs. Cliff Lee Anti-New-York/Yanks-Fans-Are-The-Worst hullaballoo?

I think it sucks, but I also think that she can get over it. A grown up can understand that a few drunk assholes are not representative of a city as a whole. If it did, she and Lee would both be as lame as Ken Griffey Jr when he said he didn't want to ever play in NY because Billy Martin was mean to him when he was 13.

She is entitled to her opinion. And Im sure after things went down she did not run out and call the press to rat out the Yankee fans. It came up in questioning about her experience with the New York ballscene.
As to the incident itself, can you blame her for being pissed about things if she was really spit upon? Have you ever been spit at?
All this matters not, Lee is not coming here. Texas is willing to drown him in money, and there is no state income tax there. I heard on the radio if they offered him 150 million the Yankees would need to offer him over 200 just to even it out.
On top of that, he is an Arkansas boy, and close to home in Texas. Add to that he is on a winning team that should contend year after year (weaker division, and one of the best farm systems in baseball) and he doesnt need to come to New York - and an aging team - to chase a ring.

She is entitled to her opinion, though I do think the press made it bigger than it really was.
I think you're right--it came up in questioning. She likes Texas and I'm sure Lee does too. That doesn't preclude a team switch.
I do think it's stupid to count out the Yankees before things get started. He has relationships with Sabathia and Burnett, and the Yankees do have a history of being successful with free agent recruiting.

Ive read that if Texas offers Lee what he wants from them, he will sign with them in the 5-day window, and not even hit the market.

Possible, but if Texas signs Lee, I really doubt that the incident in the Bronx will play a factor. It'll be because he just wants to be there.

Oh, I agree with you 100% there. The story WAS overblown, but thats the New York media for you. In fact, come to think of it, the fact that this was so overblown - the New York media may be more offensive to Mrs. Lee than the spitters! And, oh, would they ever need to deal with the NY media.

They would need to deal with the NY media, but no one will care about Mrs. Lee once the ink is dry. And as a Yankee, as long as he produces, he is fine. Look at CC.

I'm just so afraid to throw bushels of money at pitchers. Look at Santana. CC has been worth every dime so far, but you just never know. It's much harder for them to bounce back from injuries than it is for position players.
That being said, adding Lee to this club would be sickness.

Too bad the Indians didn't keep both of them.

Not too bad at all. I'm glad.

Spoke about this with Dever over Twitter....
I'm pretty sure the Yanks will sign Lee. I'm also sure that Cliff Lee will be great for some time for the Yanks.
What I'm afraid of is that they'll hand out yet another LONG contract that will far outlive Lee's effectiveness. The balky back concerns me. I can see this guy laying on the floor like Larry Bird between inning by 2012.

Hopefully, if we do get him, this will happen well after 2012. He has a pretty solid motion, and I'm kind of hoping that he mirrors Boomer in durability. Boomer also had back issues but pitched effectively until his late 30s.
