MLB has that top 9 show they like to do. Gives people something to talk and fight about.
If you went through Yankee history, and had to choose the top ten Yankees of all time, period, who would they be?
Factor in things like stats, intangibles, championships (if you want), awards, etc.
Here is my top 10.
1. Ruth 2. Gehrig 3. Mantle 4. DiMaggio 5. Jeter 6. Berra 7. Ford 8. Rivera 9. Mattingly 10. Munson
Tough choosing between Munson and Bernie. Bernie was the better overall hitter. Munson has some more intangibles. Bernie was great in the postseason. But Munson was godlike in the postseason. Though he didn't have the sample size Bernie did, he DID have more than his share of postseason experience, and his numbers, especially in the World Series, were sick. His postseason OPS was actually 120 points above his regular season OPS. Bernie was about even.

Some might argue the ordering of your 2, 3, and 4.
I wouldn't, but some might.
I didn't even blink an eye when I saw Bernie omitted from your list - no problems there whatsoever.

How about PERSONAL favorites, rather than all-time greats. Mine:
1) Mantle 2) Gossage 3) El Duque 4) Munson 5) Guidry 6) Rivera 7) Reggie 8) Jeter 9) Mickey Rivers 10) Mattingly

Of course some might argue the ordering. That's allowed. Favorite Yanks is another topic.
Reggie would make my list then, as would O'Neill and Winfield.
Bernie would be 11th on my all time list, so eliminating him was actually tough. He was a hell of a player, and I think underappreciated a bit.
