Now, that we've had a few days to digest that Lee isn't a Yankee let's hope that Cashman's move for Martin is a sign of things to come!!! I'm not a Grienke guy and don't think he's the answer nor is their anybody available (& no shot of King Felix being traded this early into an extension) so we need to sew up the bullpen (i.e. Wood & or Soriano) and beg Petitte to come back. I've heard the Zambrano rumors and could make sense with a pitching coach that is familiar with him and a veteran clubhouse that could control him! I just hope that something good comes of this Cliff Lee mess!!! I'm not bitter towards the guy, he truly loved his time in Philly and built a bond; but I just hope this isn't the move that destroys the Yanks off season. They've overcome not getting the prize when Maddux spurned their offer and they overcame that!!!!

Wood looks to be going back to Chicago. The key to 2011 rests on Pettitte's shoulders.
Zambrano sucks. He's a hot head, a headcase, and isn't even all that good in the NATIONAL League. He would be a disaster in NY. I'd rather get Greinke.
Let's not also forget that it took 4 years for the Yanks to build a winner after Maddux told them to fuck off. Granted, they are a lot closer now, and they MAY have won in 1994, but still.
The real issue with Lee is the lack of depth of pitching in the free agent field. There was only one. No aces are available via trade. So it's a problem.

Poor fucking NY. How will they ever fucking recover from not signing the top pitcher on the market? Imagine actually having to build a farm system to bring up pitchers and/or trade for pitchers? That'd be a god damn shame.
NY fans talk like they're a 60 win team now. This is a roster with ARod, Jeter, Cano, Tex, Mo, CC. Something tells me that they'll be just fine.
p.s. I know the "Red Sox spend almost as much" chatter is coming. It makes me sick that they tossed $20M a year at Crawford. I said it when they signed Drew to his unreal deal, Lackey too and I say it now. I cannot stand NY type contracts. They already had 3-4 legit OFers and they just throw that much at another one? I like Crawford, but jesus christ.

your team can spend as much as they want, put the money back into the product....dont be like the Pirates or Royals who just pocket the dough from the big market teams...still hard to believe Lee turning down the NY $$$ for Philly....now all Philly has to do is get Bryan Harvey and they can have a rotation of Lee - Harvey - Oswalt

The fact is, the Red Sox ARE doing EXACTLY what NY did to win. It's hypocritical to complain, and that payroll gap is getting smaller and smaller. It's not that the Red Sox CAN'T afford the same payroll. They just haven't had the need yet.
I'm totally stealing that Lee Harvey Oswalt joke.

While there are still moves to be done, with the Bobby Jenks signing, Boston's payroll is officially higher than the Yankees'.

Jenks the next signing for the Sox. What the hell is Cashman waiting for?? Does he realize the off season is almost over and pitchers and catchers report in mid February!!! Holy Shit this guy is asleep at the wheel.....for fuck sake, go get somebody for the bullpen and do something, not just give us washed up, needs surgery, hits into more double plays than Jeter...Martin!!! Overpay for Soriano and tell him he's the heir apparent to MO......Cashman's building repelling alter ego must be pioneering this yea's off season!!!!
And for people who bitch and moan about salaries and this and that.....WHO CARES, it's not your money! At least teams like the Sox, Phillies, and Yanks put the money back into the product and he'll for a great product don't you always expect to pay more?? There's a reason it's soo cheap to go see crappy teams....you know what it is....your team and ownership are for Shit!!!
Happy Holidays to all the Yankee fans and for those of you that hate, I hope their is dust underneath your tree. Departing for a 2 week long Italian vacation and here's to some good news as I return state side in early new year!!!

Jenks sucks. The Red Sox can have him. His stats last year were horrid. It would be hard to find a closer that was worse and actually kept the job. Joba was actually better than Jenks last year.

I am fucking sickened by the Sox spending. Thank god Drew, DiceK, Cameron, etc are coming off the books after this year.
I am especially pissed about the fucking $6M guy to setup. I remember I about punched a wall when NY started this idea by signing Tom Gordon to a huge contract to SETUP. Now they are doing the same shit. All I can think of is that Papelbon is headed out the door...they already had Bard to setup.

I thought Bard was the heir apparent, as well. He is flat-out nasty and, not that this seems to matter to either of our ball clubs, but cheap, as well.

That's why the differences between the two teams' approaches are minimal. Both teams are doing whatever it takes to win and are investing in their product. Aside from cheating, there's no wrong way to win a championship.
Personally, I don't think Jenks is all that good. I feel that over the years, setup men signed via free agency tend to suck in the long run. Most teams should be able to piece together a bullpen from their minors.
Even the Yanks have basically done that.
Jenks was actually less effective last year than Joba. I don't think the signing helps Boston at all.

Yes, or Gordon. I agree with Balls on this one.
