I just need to vent. ...I have been paying for DTV for about 4 months without having a dish even installed because im an idiot...I just forgot to cancel..... Well I call about 2 weeks ago to cancel and cust retention offered to give me a new HD-DVR High Def-Tivo) receiver, a good programming pkg, and a $200 credit, all to be installed last wed between 12-4pm. Well last Wed at around 3pm the installer call to cancel and reschedule a week later, so I missed a day of work for nothing. I hung up and called DTV again ..this time they offered to give me an extra Tivo receiver, and an upgrade when th new HD-DVR's come out. So that brings us to this morning.... He was supposed to be here between 8 and 12... well around 9:30 I got a call and he basically said that he could not do the install because he did not have the right equipment. So I called DTV again ...the first time the rep put me on hold while he called the local install office.. After about 35 minutes of a kicking on-hold song, that was both upbeat and soothing at the same time, ...I got disconnected ...Grrrr well I called back and was put on hold again..this time for about 15 minutes and a rep apparently did not realize the he/she picked up the phone, because for the next 3 min, the only thing that I could hear over my repeated cries for help, was a repeated banging noise giggling and what sounded like a paper bag. ..so round three wasn't much better...all that happened was another 30 min hold and the local installer basically confirmed that they indeed did not have the equipment in stock (thanks) and rescheduled me for next week... So, how was your day so far

I work for a weekly newsmagazine that covers the cable and satellite TV industries. This is about the 500th story I've heard (outside of work) involving missed appointments and other total screwups. Yet when I'm editing stories for our Web site, all I read are quotes about how important and vital excellent customer service is in order for these companies to grow.

I've had DirecTV for years, and have moved several times....I have yet to have a smooth hassle free installation experience with DirecTV. But in the end, the programming is worth the heartache.
I think the fact that DirecTV farms out their installations to small private companies prevents them from having any quality control over the service you get at installation time.

BINGO! That's exactly the problem. And all the cable and satellite companies swear they're working on improving it. But I don't go one week without hearing a horror story.

When I got my Tivo in my room, they had to run a wire into my room and did such a shotty job with it. I have a wire across the middle of my floor and it goes through a hole by my door and lines the top of the wall in the hallway. It has yet to be fixed.

They couldn't have done a more shoddy job than you did by spelling shoddy "shotty"

I once had a guy who laid the coax cable right across the tackboard under the carpet...within days my service was out. Rather than waiting for another flopdick to come out and fix it, I bought my own length of coax, and re-ran the cable under the carpet myself.

Hey bigal115,
I called and tried to get the same deal you got (hi-def dvr receiver, $200 credit, free HBO, etc) and they told me those deals don't exist. They offered a small credit towards the receiver but it will expire soon if I don't "act now". They also said there are no free upgrades from the old model to the future model coming out soon. I told them that someone in my family got the deal and they said that my family member must be lying to me.
They called you a liar and then they skipped your appointment all in the same week. Nice.

If Verizon could get the FiOS to our areas, we could all just tell DirecTV AND Fuckingcablevison to take a flying leap...
I'd consider DirecTV if I could get DSL, but alas, even that is not available in Port Jeff...

As a longtime DirecTV customer, I've found that men are much more likely to give you free shit than women are. When calling, I hang up immediately upon hearing a female voice, and re-dial
