Who went to the show in White Plains? I ended up going bike shopping in Wantagh (quite successfully) instead of going.
FYI...There is a small show this Saturday in midtown:
10am - 4pm 332 W. 43rd St. (btwn 8th & 9th ave), Holy Cross School
25 tables, $1.00 admission charge.

I took a stroll up to Alex's MVP Cards today on 89th Street. While I was walking there, I ran into German Rene. Then I got a few cards, including these: To my knowledge, the only Tony Kubek I am now missing is the 1957.

Nice collection you got rolling there. Have you been able to find the 57? Or is it a "Holy Grail" of sorts nowadays.

I've never seen the '57, even in my heyday of collecting. They have ONE listed in all of Beckett's online stores currently, and I cannot justify spending what they are asking for it at the moment.
I will be in search of it at upcoming shows, and hopefully a dealer over elsewhere can knock a few clams off that price tag for me.

There is a card show Thanksgiving weekend in White Plains. Most people will be taking advantage of the mall sales, so it might be a good one, or it might be horrible considering all the shopping that will be going on already in that area.
Since last post, I picked up 2 Tulowitzki autos, 1 Cano auto, and one Melky auto.
When I have time to scan I will show them, I scan my autos for my collection anyway so I will post.
I got the Cano and Melky at the show in White Plains, both for $50, and book value is $80. So I did pretty good.

Aside from just scarfing the auto cards at shows and online, you should start mailing selected cards to the respective Stadiums for players to sign and send back. It may take a blue moon in many cases, and some wont make it back at all. But I know my brother used to do it a lot, and had good success in getting his "self addressed stamped envelope" back.
Obviously, you will have a speedier turnaround and better shot at getting the card back at all if its a personal favorite player, and not EVERYONES favorite player, or the "flavor of the day."
Also, it goes without saying anyone considering this should send over the 10 cent Topps card for signing, and not the $10 uniform swatch card. Worst comes to worst, you're out a dime and postage.

I would send cards to be signed, but I am going to wait until spring training to do it. I would only send the 10 cent Topps cards because the auto on the card generally decreases the value overall. I am also considering send a ball or two, and taking a chance with that.

So you can get a card signed by the ballboy? Jw

You can continue to play the role of cynic, but I choose not to do so.
Its simple - send a card to Derek Jeter to sign, enjoy your ballboy sig. Send a card to Chase Wright to sign, Chase Wright is most likely signing your card.

The players do in fact sign. The other day I was interviewing Jamie Moyer and he was sitting there signing about 50 baseball cards and then tossing them back in envelopes. Yes, I know it's Jamie Moyer, but the point is, the do sign.
I know people who do this and gets tons of autos this way.

That's kind of cool and everything, but they don't seem to have an address for the Scarsdale show in this article.

Don't they charge you to grade these items?

The article seems to indicate that they don't. I have to be in Scarsdale for a wedding. I wouldn't mind going a little early and having my 1984 Clemens rated.

Beckeet grades cards, not rate them. And yes you do have to pay for them. It isn't free or on site, they will give you a raw card grade but to get hte card encapsulated and graded professionally with a number grade they have to send it out. Either way, it will cost you.

I saw something where it costs about 11 or 12 bucks (+ shipping) to have a card graded and put into one of those cases, and yeah, you need to send it out to the governing body of baseball card graders who seems to know what they're talking about.
No thanks...I don't trust anyone with some of my classics.
I'll be at the Long Island show this weekend with my old man, digging through the old books. I heard through the grapevine to not expect any bargains out there though...that most vendors jack up the price for this show to cover the high cost of renting out a table.

You really shouldn't expect a bargain at a NY show, searching for any Yankee cards to complete a collection simply becuase they know that people will buy them here. Not to mention, most of these shows jack up the prices on everything and then say that the box is half price or some sort of discount.
The shows do work to your advantage generally though, esp if you decide to buy a bunch of cards from one particular person. They will cut you a deal.

The one time I was able to get myself into the Cardinals locker room last year, it was an off day. We had their director of IT bring us in there. Aside from how big and spacious it is and nice, there were two guys sitting at this huge table in the middle. They had a ton of mail there, I asked my guy what they were up to, and he bluntly said answering fan mail.... lol.

I am seriously debating on sending a baseball or two out during Spring Training, I figured I really don't have anything to lose because I would be sending balls I got from BP.

Pujols, I collect his cards, and have been trying for years buying boxes to get lucky and pull an auto. No such luck as of yet.

Yeah, Ive gotten hooked up for a multiple card buy at shows before. It's just like shopping on Beckett. It pays to stick with one dealer...save on the shipping. Except at the show, you save on the negotiating.
