Thought I'd start a new thread to get some of the interesting stuff out of the softball fighting thread...
Larry, if you are looking for access to the river in Jackass' area, you should talk to Capone. His buddy lives in the woods around there, right on one of the rivers.
I don't know if you are into photo ops in the Shinnecock nation, but there is chick in one of my classes who is a member of the tribe.

There is plenty of access to the two rivers here. I take my dog to Indian Well park to let her run and it is by far one of the priemier places to observe birds.
Across the river on my side is the Osbornedale State park (less than a mile from my house), and they have a regular bird walk that I have frequented. It's great for seeing the migratory birds.
My new place down in Virginia is very close to the NWS at Assateague. THAT is one of the greatest places for seeing birds that you can imagine. It also has all of the other interesting wildlife (the wild ponies, etc...) as well as the ocean life (dolphins and the like), and a very cool old lighthouse.
When I lived in Pennsyltucky, I used to go to Bald Eagle Mountain (near State College - not a bad drive from NYC) and watch the migration of the raptors. I see a lot of bald eagles here, but that is the only place I've ever seen Golden Eagles. The cool thing about Balds Eagle Mountain is that you are situated above the flight path so you can really see the birds quite well.
