Ah, this hurts my heart.
I had heard rumblings of this for years. Slipped Disc was a stubborn stalwart in the Indy record store purgings over the years. Hot damn, I have been going to this store for my vinyl, cassettes, and discs for well over 20 years now. I remember hopping into my Camaro with my friend Rob, hitting the disc for the metal I could not find anywhere else.
Now I do most of my shopping online, but we do a quarterly trip to the disc where I will usually leave with about 5 platters in hand. Apparently they are liquidating stock now, discussion will be starting in the Brown household shortly about a stop down there tomorrow.
Sigh. Probably 80% of my pre 1990 collection (which is pretty voluminous) came from that store. It was just a cool place. I will very much miss it, but I always wondered how long it lasted on that little slice of Rockaway Parkway in Valley Stream, amidst some chintzy shops.
You will be missed!
