Who likes black men? It seems there are pictures on every thread.

Uh oh!!! hahaha...I smell a new thread protocol breach coming on.
In all due respect, Sammy Davis not only transcended "black" but he transcended "men" - he was a legend!
I have a new found respect for Sammy, now that he and my dog share a common attribute - ONE EYE!

But perhaps this is a prime opportunity to get a much needed "top pic" thread!!!

You should get him a wooden eye. Or, slip an aggie in the slot.

It's Black History Month, and we at Heckle House celebrate by honoring our African American friends.

A man with a wooden eye goes to a nightclub.
He spots a lonely harelipped woman and asks her if she would like to dance.
She replies, with enthusiasm, "Would I? Would ?"
Angrily he responds, "HARELIP HARELIP!"

Ah-ha! Perhaps a banner or something to go with the pictures would be cool.

One funny thing is since we put pictures of black people all over the place the cost to go "ad free" has gone down 75%! Property value seems to have diminished...zing!
But I kid. No banner was needed, we explained our mission at the dawning of African-American month - you should have been here!

I'm surprised there have been no banner ads for Prepaid Legal.
No joke - the wife and I once booked a room, unknowingly, at the Sahara in Vegas on the same weekend they were hosting a Prepaid Legal Services conference....I don't think it would be any exaggeration to say that the population of the hotel was above 90% "African American" that weekend.

I think they made one of these, and it landed on February.

Was the PA system piped up with "Black people making love" music?

Speaking as someone with training in "cultural competence," it is no longer acceptable to refer to PEOPLE OF COLOUR as African Americans. People of colour refer to all individuals who are not white, and the subset of people who are particularly dark or have negroid features are to be referred to as BLACK, because they may not be of African heritage and they may not be American.
I love semantical malarky!

Spoken like a true caucasian. I am sure that the "blacks" and "African Americans" do not agree. Sounds like some whites making the rules again to me, and putting them in expensive textbooks as purported facts.

Way to be racist Laura. Until you have lived life as a black person, you are not trained in anything. Awful.

I take my lead from Larry on these matters....

Just the term "cultural competence" requires a level of arrogance. To actually think that there is such a training other than everyday life is just ridiculous. The most unrealistic environment for "cultural competence" is the academic setting, where political correctness was shoved down your throat.
To imply that someone has more ability to judge anything in relation to race because she took a class or two is laughable.

What exactly is the training regiment for "cultural competence?" She talked to a black guy while waiting in line to buy a cup of coffee.

So what does that give her, a black belt in cultural competence?
Wait, can I say black belt? I think I can. I just can't say African American belt because the belt may not have been made in America out of African textiles.

Well, since Jesse Owens has been the African American of the day for about a week, I think the Heckle House is a bit lacking in it's cultural knowledge. Throw in the fact that the pics in the entertainment section aren't even of real people, I kind of get the embarrassed-to-be-white feeling I got when I saw Mitt Romney trying to read off every safe black cliche in the book to try to get their vote, as you can see below. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H8Nq7BglIg&NR=1?I mean, really, does everything have to stem from sports and goofy pop culture?

Jesse Owens has been the African American of the day for the weekend, as was explained. Tomorrow, there will be a new black person up there. And to answer Grover's final question--
Yes.

Yeah, what are you talking about? He went up on Friday morning, and it was specifically mentioned it would carry through the weekend (as will all Friday choices) cause, quite frankly, there is very little traffic around here all weekend and changing pics that day to make a point is a waste of time.
As to the other "choices" - well, you can probably tell in a millisecond which pics are my responsibilty, and which ones were picked by Balls. Thats all I need to say on that.

What's next? Pics of Ruben Sierra and Alfonso Soriano?
