So it looks like Rampage will not be fighting Evans after all. He needs surgery on his jaw and time off to rest a hyper extended elbow. Evans will be fighting Lyoto Machida instead.
That said, it's not like Rampage won't get a shot when he's healthy.

Exactly, he became number one contender, but I like this new fight a heel of a lot too. Machida is nasty, and Evans is peaking, should be good.

Silva retains, goes the distance first time since 04, lackluster fight, very disappointing. And Chuck got knocked out, didn't make anything official but it looks like that could be his last fight. I'll have more to say tomorrow and in my blog in a few days, time for sleep.

I was invited over to a friend's to watch this thing last night.
I'll say it was mildly entertaining, but did absolutely nothing to convert me, a die-hard boxing fan, over to the MMA side.
I get it, ya know...the brutality of it all. But again, to me this stuff is so much less of a sport, pitting two foes mastered skills against one another (the way boxing is) and much more just a situation of two brutes dancing around just waiting for one to make a mistake and give the other an opening.

Ultimate Fighter is in full swing now. This season, there is a UK v. US division among the teams. The UK guy beat the US guy last night. It was a very even fight until the UK landed an incredible kick that KO'd the US guy.
One thing I'm noticing this year is that there isn't anyone that looks like POS Dan. It doesn't seem right. Of course, the winner of the POS Dan lookalike contest, Matt Hamill, is one of my least favorite fighters of all time. Can't stand him.

I think I will be out of town when it happens, but Hughes and Serra are finally going to square off.

I think that's awesome. Clearly they are going to have heavyweights.
BUT, keep in mind, you have to fight your way into the house. 32 people fight it out for 16 spots. If Kimbo doesn't win that fight, that's that.

Not one for MMA but I caught the Lesnar fight (since I was curious) online on a streaming site and all I have to say was his post match interview in the ring was classic heel and would have done Heyman proud. After giving the whole crowd the finger, when he said he was "going home to relax and have a Coors Light because Bud Light (who was the UFC fight sponsor) wouldn't pay him nothing and maybe I'll get on top of my wife tonight....CLASSIC!

Henderson knocked out Bisping cold, GSP dominated Alves, and yeah Lesnar put a whooping on Mir and is one of my favorite fighters since he's a legit real heel. Not a scripted heel, not a heel cause Vince wanted him to be or that's what Dana White wants, but because he's a natural heel. I loved how he got in Mir's face and said talk all the shit you want now, cause Mir was putting him down I felt. Good card. But I think next month has it, BJ and Ken Flo for the belt and was could possibly be fight of the year Anderson Silva vs Forest Griffin. Can't wait for August now.

Affliction folds MMA promotion, will sponsor UFC by Kevin Iole on Jul 24, 2009 at 6:15 pm ET After promoting two critically acclaimed but financially disastrous mixed martial arts cards, Affliction on Friday first canceled its pay-per-view card scheduled for Aug. 1 and then opted to get out of the promotional business, Yahoo! Sports has learned.
The company and the Ultimate Fighting Championship are expected to release a statement sometime on Friday in which it is announced that Affliction will cease operations as a promoter and that its clothing division will become a UFC sponsor.
Affliction had a card slated for Aug. 1 with a main event of Fedor Emelianenko against former UFC champion Josh Barnett at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
But Barnett tested positive for an anabolic steroid and on Tuesday was denied a license to fight by the California State Athletic Commission.
That left Affliction scrambling to fight a replacement for Emelianenko. With no viable alternatives – the best was former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort, who was already down to 195 pounds for a scheduled middleweight fight – Affliction early Friday opted to scrap the show.
Later in the day, Affliction came to terms on a deal in which it would quit promoting fight cards. However, the status of the fighter contracts belonging to Affliction is unknown.
They could revert to the UFC or they could become free agents, able to sign with the promoter of their choice.
Multiple sources had indicated to Yahoo! Sports that Affliction was on the verge of a deal with Strikeforce for some sort of merger, but that fell apart in the last 24-48 hours. That’s when talks began anew between White and Affliction. They had spoken earlier in July about such a scenario, but were unable to come to a deal.

Hey James--two things:
1. New season of Ultimate Fighter is on--the one with Kimbo Slice. Are you watching? Slice fought and got smacked around. One fighter may be injured, which could be Slice's road back, but I don't know. I'm not looking for spoilers, though this is a good thread to comment on the show.
2. You ever hear of a show called Bully Beatdown? On that show, some wuss writes a letter about some asshole bully. The show confronts the bully, and offers him $10000 to step into the ring with an MMA fighter. The bully always goes for it, but the catch is that he's risking the money. The first round is 3 minutes. $5000 is at risk. Every time the bully taps out in that round, he loses $1000, which goes to his pussy victim. No strikes are allowed in the first round.
The second round is straight kick boxing, with no takedowns. If the bully is KO'd or TKO'd, he loses the $5K. Usually, the fight is quick.
You ever watch the show?
I see on the internet there is a lot of speculation that the show is fake. The only thing that really makes it seem somewhat real are the fights themselves--especially round 2. I don't know how you can fake some of the beatings they take.
But the idea that it's fake is MUCH stronger. Thinking about it, how could there be a fight for money between an amateur and a professional? How could such a fight be set up legally and put on television without any regulation and sanctioning? And what fighting authority WOULD sanction such a fight, even when they have legit refs?
If you haven't watched the show, I would recommend checking out a few episodes, since they are kind of funny. But interested in some thoughts.

I don't get around to the episodes of The UF, I have TNA and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia around that time I think so I usually watch or record that. I have not heard of the other show, is that on spike too, what channel is it on? I'll have to DVR it.
But I did hear about Kimbo Slice, no surprise for me, I never thought he was a good fighter, and it proves how smart Dana White is. Everyone wanted him to just sign Kimbo, and honestly, when he was at his peak on YouTube, it would have been a nice pay day to throw Kimbo in with someone. But Dana doesn't wanna do the Circus Show shit. He said if he could get through the Ultimate Fighter, then he could make it in the UFC. Well, he can't do either.
How about Rampage? He gets the part in the A Team movie playing Mr. T's part, has a contract issue with UFC and he's gone. There's talk he'll eventually be back, but it leads to speculation on whats going to happen when he fights Rashaad Evans. I hope he comes back after he fails at acting.

Bully Beatdown is on MTV. It's only a half hour show. If you've seen one episode, you've seen them all. Real or not, the refs at least are legit. They have top UFC refs like John McCarthy and that black guy with the longer hair.
In the city, a few episodes are actually available on demand. If you have the ability to get MTV On Demand, and you probably do, you can check it out any time.
The MMA fighters that beat up the bullies are legit too, though I don't know if any of them made the UFC.
Slice's problem is that he's not a trained fighter. It will take a LOT of work to get him ready. I think it's easier for a good wrestler to adapt than a good striker. In his fight, Slice landed some good shots. But these MMA guys have unbelievable chins. I don't get how some people can take punches like they do, but they do.
I was very skeptical about Slice going into that fight. I expected him to lose, and had he won, I think people would have screamed fix. He's in a no win scenario here. People expect him to lose, and if he wins, people don't credit him and will claim it's some sort of set up for a bigger payday.
The ads for next week make it seem like he may get a second chance due to someone else getting hurt. That also seems weak. I hope you get some time to watch that fight in one of the reruns this week. The end of the first round (specifically the final 30 seconds), combined with the end of the second round (when the TKO happens), is really funny.
Slice really wasn't HURT in the fight because the shots that were landing were sissy shots. Even Dana White said that and was making fun of the guy that WON the fight. For me, the humor was seeing how helpless Slice was when he was tied up. He wasn't hurt, but he couldn't move and therefore just couldn't fight back. It was basically some fat guy sitting on him and slapping him. It's hard not to laugh.
Rampage as BA? I admit it's interesting, though I don't know if anyone can do that role properly. The role was written for Mr. T specifically.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andre Arlovsky was one of the fighters on Bully Beatdown recently. Not surprisingly, he kicked the shit out of his opponent.
In another episode, one of the bullies actually caught the MMA guy with a good punch, and knocked him down. THAT has to be embarrassing. That's like me getting a hit off a major leaguer.
The MMA guy wasn't knocked out. He got up and proceeded to hit the guy with a vicious kick to the head. Unfortunately, it's illegal for the MMA guy to kick to the head, but it was a funny KO.

UFC 105 is on live on Spike right now. I hope some kind of punishment is handed down to this guy who just won Andre Winner, he knocked the guy out with one shot, guys out on the ground and he still hits him with three shots while he's out cold. Total pussy ass thug bush league move.

Major breaking news on Brock Lesnar....thanks to www.f4wonline.com for this... Brock Lesnar is in extremely bad shape and it will be some time as to when he will fight again.
Lesnar, 32, went to Canada last week to try to get some rest, collapsed, and was rushed to the hospital. He has mono and also something else that he has requested confidentiality with the UFC as to what it is. Dana White said tonight that he promised Lesnar to keep the disease private, and said he doesn't have cancer or AIDS. It is, however, extremely serious and there are at least two things wrong and there may be more.
Dana White is heading to Minnesota and will be working to get Lesnar to the Mayo Clinic or equivalent medical facility for treatment.

I wonder what the disease is. All I've heard is that it's serious and potentially career ending.
I hope it's not Parkinson's, or something like that.

Bobby Lashley has signed a multi-year deal with Strikeforce, and will debut for them late in January on a card aired on Showtime. For now, he says he will continue his pro wrestling career concurrently, but one has to believe his MMA goals are his focus.

Realistically, trying to do both makes me think he will not succeed in MMA. He's a big guy, but it's easier to get injured in wrestling than anything else, not to mention the training is different.

blurb from www.f4wonline.com today. New York Governor David Paterson's proposed 2010-2011 budget includes a proposal to legalize MMA. The state is $7 billion in the hole and the belief is that shows run in the state could bring in over $10-$15 million per pop.

My favorite MMA program, Ultimate Fighter premiered last night. I really hope Grover and James saw it.
SPOILER....
It had the single funniest fight I have ever seen. It wasn't the KO, or the brutality. It was the promo before and what happened during the fight.
Picture this--a FRENCH fighter.
He talks about how the world thinks the French are soft, weak, and pushovers, and he's determined to show the world that French people are not wimps.
Round one.
He loses the round, but not THAT badly. It's not like he got KO'd. Most people in MMA would have easily continued.
He quits.
He says he's not feeling well, he's tired, and basically gives every excuse in the world that a total pussy would say.
The trainers are shocked and actually are arguing with him telling him to keep going. Dana White of course laughed at him, especially in light of the fact that he was French.
It was hysterical.

That fight was hysterical--describing it can't do it justice.
