Ever notice how every now and then they'll push a wrestler whose shtick is that he's a phenomenal technical wrestler? Bob Backlund comes to mind as a prime example...also Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit. Eventually that gimmick doesn't work and they have to have them do something drastic and attention grabbing.

I heard he was bonkers backstage and they could not get him out of there soon enough. He even had problems with some of the lines Nash improved and threatened to leave on the spot. I am pretty sure TNA will be "losing his number."

Of all people, Scott "Raven" Levy was just referenced as part of a query on Jeopardy. The question was like "Scott Levy is better known by the name Raven in this, his chosen sport." - answer, wrestling of course.

i actually saw that tonight , didnt think any of those jeopardy folks would get it.
That goofy middle-aged woman from Bayside got the answer. Maybe she was a regular at the Elks Lodge shows.

For anyone interested, A&E is running a doubleheader of sorts tomorrow (Saturday the 3rd) morning, with "BIOGRAPHY" episodes running for both Andre The Giant (at 9AM) and Mick Foley (at 10AM)
I saw the Andre one a few years ago, its good enough. I have no idea how the Foley one holds up. I'll DVR them for later viewings, I imagine.

Yesterday, Feb 3rd, marked the 8th month and 4th day of Paul London & Brian Kendrick as WWE Tag Team Champions. Today, on Super Bowl Sunday, the two will surpass Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith's run in 1996-1997 as the longest reigning tag team champions since Demolition in 1989.

So, now that I have tons of time on my hads, I felt like watching the matches on my AWA DVD.
First match we have Bockwinkle & Stevens vs. the High Flyers. Bockwinkle introuces their new manager, Bobby Heenan.
The match was pretty good, but what made it comical was the commentator just sitting there and going "WOW LOOK AT THAT!" & "OH BOY HE GOT HIM!"
It was killer! He explained nothing beyond a choke. Steven's gets Gagne in an airplane spin, and he goes "Here we go! look at that!" as Gagne reverses it.
LOLOLOL!!

I put the infamous incident with Ali and Monsoon on yours and Tom's MySpace comments. Interesting event, but from what I'm finding, Ali didn't do anything after that with Monsoon. It was a one time thing. I don't get why Ali would get into a ring and get his ass kicked for no reason. Monsoon's interview with McMahon was hysterical. "He doesn't know a wrist hold from a wrist watch."

Monsoon, God bless him, ended up running that line into the ground. He used it literally thousands of times. As for that whole angle, that was only part of the setup of the Ali/Antonio Inoki wrestler vs boxer battle. Although Monsoon came out looking strong, it drummed up a lot of interest in the Ali/Inoki battle, which was already scheduled at that point.
Grover, I had mentioned those same things once I watched that opening match, the announcer not only did that, he did that at a HIGH level of volume. It was a fun watch, no doubt. I think you'll enjoy that disc, those matches. Its a trove.

Yeah, you would see a few punches, and he would scream into the mic in a "THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!!" fashion.
LOL!!!

Thing is, as far as I know, Ali never got his "revenge" on Monsoon. I don't know what happened with Inoki, but Ali looked really bad against Monsoon.

Here's a scurrilious tidbit for you, straight from the wrestling Bible, the Observer.
Matt Striker is doing Krystal Marshall. That is all.

I'm racking my brain trying to remember, and I can't.
Who was the fat guy....I think he had an Italian name, kinda resembled Big Pussy from the Sopranos, perpetual heel - wrestled WWF in the early 80s?

Cho, are you talking King Kong Mosca?
As to Striker, last night on ECW it was truly the Matt Striker show. He was awesome last night, playing ref, timekeeper, and ring announcer - complete with Howard Finkel inuflections. Even his body language as timekeeper and the little things he did to draw heat were spot on. He certainly took a star turn last night, and appears a key part of the "New Breed of ECW."
