I actually had him on one of my pathetic fantasy squads for a couple of weeks. I forgot who the Giants' 1B was, but he was hurt and Niekro came up and hit a few dingers.

I used to like him, and collected a couple of his cards. I keep an eye on second generation ballplayers, although I may stop cause most of them really suck.

The first ever "World Series" took place between the Boston Pilgrims and the Pittsburgh Pirates - a best of 9 affair.

Looks like a run on back up back stops. The Dodgers got that old Yankee fram hand Brad Ausmus the Pod's grabed Hank White....um Henry Blanco. Who did hit .292 last year. And the O's got Gregg Zaun.

Gregg Zaun, nephew of Rick Dempsey, will go over well in Baltimore.

Wow. Giambi looks old and out of shape in the top picture. Glad he's gone.

As the champion of players that suck, you should have him in your HOF.
He could pass for 50 years old in that picture.
I think Tino Martinez should kick him in the balls.

Is Joey Gathright a viable centerfield option for the Cubs?
People are debating this because of the acquisition of Milton Bradley.
Seems like a no-brainer to me. I'd love to have Gathright in CF for the Yanks.

I'd love to have Gathright in CF for the Yanks. This amuses me. For all the battering Melky has been taking, Gathright actually has a LOWER career batting average. Friggin' .263....last year he was at .254 with a whopping ZERO home runs and 22 RBIs in over 200 at-bats. He has ONE career home run in 1145 at-bats...and under 100 career RBIs. His slugging percentage is only .304....one of the lowest I have EVER seen. And his OBP, for a guy with no pop at all, is too low at .324. He hardly ever walks. His success rate stealing is not all that good, he has been caught almost 30 times while stealing less than 80. So, um....in all due respect.....why do you want him to play center for the Yankees again? ??

Cho, Im stilll laughing about this Gathright thing.
Anyway, the Brewers have made some Yankee related moves. Yanks dumped Chase Wright on them for OF / C Eric Freyer, and they also signed old friend Ramiro Mendoza to a minor-league deal.

So it looks like Ben Sheets is going to need elbow surgery after all....makes the teams that passed on him look pretty smart. And all his whining, and his agents whining, about how he deserved a heap of cash without incentive clauses, look sad. Although Sheets reached an agreement of sorts with the Rangers last week, this one will probably fall on the Brewers tab. mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090205&content_id=3801488&vkey=hotstove2008&fext=.jsp

Because Gathright is probably the fastest guy in baseball....and if we're content with a ho-hum bat in CF, why not make it a player who can, you know, actually play defense, as opposed to Bad-Route Cabrera.
I'm not saying Gathright is the crown jewel for CF'ers, but he's certainly much more attractive than Melky or the other dude who's name I already forgot....Gardner...that's it.
But mainly my question was about the Cubs...why are THEY humming and hawing about Gathright playing CF - seems like a no-brainer.

So? And that has gotten him what, less than 80 SBs for his career, and over 30 caught stealings. Terrible, terrible percentage. If all you needed to do in baseball with speed was run around, Carl Lewis would be in the Yankee outfield.
As I said in regards to Gardner, YOU CAN NOT STEAL FIRST BASE. Gathrights offensive numbers are downright scary. I did not think it possible you guys could drum up someone I wanted less than Cabrera out there, but Cho, you done and did it.

I'm watching the Dominican/Venezuela game on MLB network.
I may not have ever been more annoyed with a baseball game, what with all of the latin music in between every pitch and the annoying fan noise with airhorns, and other various noise makers.

Ive read a ton of accounts from MLB players who have made forays over there for games in that environ, and to a T they talk about how much they enjoyed the crowd being into the game like that.
Except, of course, when some of the noise was fans shooting guns in the air.

Soccer, with the chants and such is one thing - actually pretty cool.
Cowbells, plates, drums, and even airhorns do add some enthusiasm, which I appreciate.
This was different. This was some dick standing on the airhorn for extended periods of up to several MINUTES long.....and actual P.A. system playing salsa and tango music in between EVERY pitch.

I actually hate when they do something on the PA after every pitch. It's not necessary. I don't mind watching the game without the bells and whistles. After an at bat? Sure. But shut up between pitches.

Well, the Padres have cut ties with Matt Bush, who is now being called potentially the worst 1st overall draft pick of all time. He was a budget pick in 2004, a local product who no one else thought too highly of, and was just recently moved to he mound after failing as a SS. The final straw was an incident involving assault and the police, this is a hoot.
El Cajon police Lt. Steve Shakowski yesterday confirmed an investigation involving Bush and allegations of assaultive behavior and public intoxication. A witness, who requested his name not be used because of the ongoing police investigation, said Bush was drunk, threw a golf club into the dirt, picked up and threw a freshman lacrosse player and hit another one. Bush also yelled “I'm Matt (expletive) Bush,” and “(expletive) East County,” before driving over a curb in his Mercedes when leaving the campus, according to the witness.
