John ... or anyone else...
Any idea where I can track down the Dodgers winning percentage against the Angels since the inception of interleague play?

Interleague play started in 1997. You could probably go to www.retrosheet.org and figure it out manually.

So the news about Pujols right about now and his contract is that he is in no hurry to sign an extension with the Cards, and there is a rumor he may test free agency. According to speculation on MLB Network, they think he feels that he should get a contract like ARod's. After all, it seems safe to say that as of now, he IS the best player in baseball.
So if he's the best player in baseball, shouldn't he match or beat ARod's contract?
In theory he has a point, but would any team WANT to commit over $30 million to one player--especially with the Yankees not a factor?
How many teams can even afford that? The Mets? They could swing it. The Angels and Cubs could do it, but would they? The Red Sox could do it, but I would be surprised to see Epstein commit that money to ONE player.

Who says the Yankees won't be a factor? They'll make him switch positions, like they did with A-Rod. ;D

I am firmly convinced that, as a fan of an AL team, the best I can hope for is that the Phillies lose, by some fluke, in the division or league series.
If they make the World Series....consider it another Championship in Philly signed, sealed, and delivered.

Torii Hunter plays the race card:
USA Today continues its five-part round table on improving the game, and today they take on a monster: race. Torii Hunter throws a big freakin' bomb: Fans look down from their seats onto the baseball field, see dark-colored skin and might assume they are African-American players. But increasingly, the players instead hail from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico or Venezuela.
"People see dark faces out there, and the perception is that they're African American," Los Angeles Angels center fielder Torii Hunter says. "They're not us. They're impostors.
"Even people I know come up and say, 'Hey, what color is Vladimir Guerrero? Is he a black player?' I say, 'Come on, he's Dominican. He's not black.' "
"As African-American players, we have a theory that baseball can go get an imitator and pass them off as us," Hunter says. "It's like they had to get some kind of dark faces, so they go to the Dominican or Venezuela because you can get them cheaper. It's like, 'Why should I get this kid from the South Side of Chicago and have Scott Boras represent him and pay him $5 million when you can get a Dominican guy for a bag of chips?'
"I'm telling you, it's sad."

Every major league team has at least one member of its active roster who was born after Jamie Moyer made his MLB debut.

Angels pitchers Jered Weaver and Matt Palmer witnessed a guy jump off the roof of the hotel they were staying at yesterday. Weaver apparently saw him "go splat."

I'm seeing George Will everywhere, promoting his book, Men At Work, being re-released. Anyone ever read it?

Many, many years ago. I remember it being a great read, but I'd like to tackle it again, because I don't recall much about it.

Former Nats pitcher Mike Bacsik is a racist Mon Apr 26,2010 9:12 AM ET By Craig Calcaterra Remember Mike Bacsik? He was the guy who served up home run number 756 to Barry Bonds back in 2007. Back in January he was accused by former teammate Tim Redding of grooving the pitch to Bonds, which caused a minor dustup. Bacsik came out of that looking OK, though, because it turns out that Redding has often been a jerk to teammates and, hey, Bacsik is just some ex-pitcher trying to make a living on the radio.
Turns out that Bacsik is the bigger jerk, however, as yesterday he tweeted the following after the San Antonio Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks: "Congrats to all the dirty Mexicans in San Antonio." The tweet was almost immediately deleted, but nothing ever dies on the Internet.
A lot of people thought Bacsik served up the homer to Bonds in an effort to make a little living for himself out on the memorabilia circuit. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that he's not going to be invited to sign "Mike Bacsik #756" on worthless baseball cards anytime soon.

From the team blurbs in USA TODAY - CHRIS SNYDER had a $5 bill in his wristband during a 7th inning at-bat Wednesday, when he doubled to the base of the CF fence to end a 1-22 slide. "Its something I've done since college when I was scuffling - try to buy a hit" said Snyder, who walked into the clubhouse between the 3rd and the 4th the grab the bill. He put it in his wristband before his plate appearance in the fourth, when he was intentionally walked."

Jayson Werth just got a 7 year deal from the Nationals for $126 million.
Make no mistake, the Nationals, not the Yanks or Red Sox, just drove up the market. I don't blame them, but next time the Yanks make a big signing for big money, this deal is one to look back on.

Agreed. The annual $ don't bother me, but seven years for a 32-year-old? The last two or three years of this contract will most likely be a disaster for DC.
