Wowza. If the Yankees make the World Series, fans will be paying $250 for box seats (up a whopping $185...a 35% increase) and the cheapest seats (hello, bleachers!) will ring in at a nifty $75, a ten dollar hop.
There will also be substantial price increases round by round. These prices are dictated by our friends at Major League Baseball. "The ticket prices are comparable to other major events." says baseball spokesman Rich Levin.
According to this, some teams have already started sending out invoices, so this may be common knowledge.

My playoff invoice, for 11 potential home games, now dwarfs my regular-season invoice, for 46 games.

ALDS games had only gone up to $16 last year... hiking them to $22 really is malarky, but there's nothing to be done. There's a line of suckers down the block waiting to buy my tickets if I don't pick up my option, so there is no "message" I can send by not buying them. I'd only penalize myself.
Just remember, with the lower capacity new stadium, MLB can hike our playoff ticket prices even MORE, as they can charge more for tickets in stadiums with lower seating capacities!
They really ought to include a little packet of vasoline with the playoff invoices, rather than the pamphlet reminding you that the stadium is being torn down, and that you have the exciting opportunity to buy a teaspoon full of dirt from it, and have it framed with your own used ticket stub for the low, low price of $100.

Uh, the "lower capacity Stadium" is only what, 3 thousand less seats? Come off of it. Its not like the Yankees are moving into a place with the capacity of Fenway Park. And you are conveniently forgetting the revenue the luxury boxes will bring to augment those seat losses, which is pretty much the main reason the Yankees are building a new Stadium in the first place.

6000 less seats as of now, but I hold out hope they may smarten up and add the seats. And you're still missing the point. They could have their luxury boxes and all the revenue FROM the luxury boxes, and ADD 10000 seats, and get even MORE money.

They will NOT be adding seats. The plans are drawn. They dont NEED the seats. YOU need the seats cause you are looking for a bleacher bench. You wont be getting it. But you guys will have a "standing room" option.

Given that they are drawing 4 million people a year and are filling a larger stadium to capacity, that means that tickets to a larger stadium are well in demand. So cutting seats is just dumb.

Are they making the actual seats larger, as some of us fans have gotten larger over the years?

Cup holders wouldn't suck. I'd rather stay in the current ballpark, but that's another discussion.
