Well Sheff is at it again. On ESPN.com Gary is quoted talking about the hall, his lack of aspirations to the hall, and the caliber of HOF'ers.
When asked about the importance of him reaching the Hall;
I love players steeped in the history of the game.

I understand what he said but I just think it was the way he said it...He was just referring to the many Negro stars who didn't make it and in a way he is right but to say the Hall doesn't matter is just plain stupid......Nick Bockwinkle would never say that just because SD Jones isn't in.....

SD Jones BELONGS. But that's obvious.
And what great Negro stars aren't in the Hall? They have elected plenty of people from the Negro Leagues.

Buck O'Neill is a start.

Is there a site that lists his stats?
I still wish Vinny asked him if he was related to Paul.

Balls, please dont come on here telling us you need to be schooled on Buck O'Neill. No wonder you are ripping Sheff here, you have no idea.
Look, I understand what he is getting at, although its not his place to shoot off, not right now, and he is just causing trouble. But I have even seen white players bring up the fact that the Hall may not be considered a "true Hall" cause a lot of Negro players were overlooked cause of the integration.

You're surprised at Balls? Come on...you know better than that. How do you expect Balls to know about the merits of Buck O'Neil? He didn't play for the Yankees.

I know who Buck O'Neill is, I just don't have his stats handy or if he's HOF worthy. Since no one provided them, I take that as meaning they don't know either. All I could find was a lifetime average of .288.
And sorry, but the lack of some Negro League players in HOF is not enough to make the HOF a sham. Pete Rose's absence means more than all the missing Negro League players combined.

You're right about that. It's a shame that he admitted to breaking the most sacred rule of the game and is being punished accordingly. The Hall of Fame would mean more if he didn't cause his own exclusion.

4256 hits. That's about all you need to know about Rose. I don't care if he stabbed Nicole Simpson, he belongs in the HOF. He did break that rule, after his playing days were done. Should have nothing to do with him being in the HOF.
Ban him from working in baseball and ever managing again. But he belongs in the HOF ahead of any living ball player not currently in.
Bill Mazeroski is in. Pete Rose is not. THAT is a joke.

Well Balls you just helped Sheff's arguement with the way you feel about Rose's being excluded..obviously all the greatest players are not in...

Sheff talked about the best not being allowed to play the game, but Rose was, so he wasn't talking about Rose.
And Sheff is no Pete Rose.

Any of ya'll know Sheff has a book coming out next month? INSIDE POWER. Of all people, here's a recommendation from Peter Golenbock, the Bronx Zoo contributor who is behind that Mickey Mantle number coming out shortly... “Gary Sheffield, passionate, blunt, and opinionated, is a smart black man who always wants to know `why.’ ‘Why are some owners so controlling or inept?’ ‘Why is love so hard to find?’ ‘Why are fewer and fewer blacks playing major league baseball?’ I love Sheff as a player. Having read Inside Power, I respect him even more as a man.”--Peter Golenbock, author of DYNASTY and co-author of THE BRONX ZOO

When asked who the most underrated player in baseball is, Gary Sheffield asnwered, "Gary Sheffield." I think there is no honor of award that would make this man feel any better about himself. Why should he care about such things?
