College Baseball is BACK, bitches.
My Titans are taking on the mighty TCU Horned Frogs up in Fullerton today - 3rd game of the first series of the season...but it's at 1p, so I'll miss it.
I'm going to try to catch a couple of the Stanford games next week.
Pretty excited about their latest hot-shit ballplayer, Nick Ramirez.

Way for Cal-State Fullerton to lose a series to Texas Christian.
Texas is a cool 4-0, and ranked 4th in the Nation by the Baseball America powerbrokers. Cal State drops to # 7.

He certainly was a main cog. The fact that they had major coverage in Baseball America when I started reading it religiously, and when college baseball WAS shown they had a huge presence helped. When my interest in college baseball was peaking, I jumped bandwagon hard. Main rule when you bandwagon is you stick with the team you rode, win or lose. And thats where we are now.
So while Clemens is the main alum I followed through, I can talk the forgottens like Justin Simmons and Dustin Majewski just as fervently.

And, the guy I've been touting all winter, Nick Ramirez is making an impact:
Freshman Ramirez Named Player of the Week Ramirez hits .500 and belts three home runs to earn first-career POW honor
March 9, 2009
Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's Nick Ramirez was named the Big West Player of the Week after hitting .500 and belting three home runs in road games against San Diego State and Southern Miss to propel the Titans to a perfect 4-0 week.
The freshman continued his dominance of college pitching and extending his hitting streak to nine games, going 9-for-18 with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI in wins over the Aztecs and Golden Eagles.
In Tuesday's midweek match-up at Tony Gwynn Stadium the Katella High School product went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles and a two-run double in the Titan's 7-2 victory.
In the Titan's 22-hit offensive outburst on Friday in Hattiesburg, the left-handed hitter was a triple away from hitting for the cycle, collecting a single, a double and a home run, one of three Titan round-trippers in the top of the third. His Friday night homer was also the back end of a back-to-back home run combo in the inning.
Saturday against the Eagles Ramirez was hitless against the home team's pitching staff until a seventh-inning, two-run jack into the Right Field Roost provided two of the Titans' final three insurance runs in the 11-6 win.
In the series finale, Ramirez singled in his first at bat and homered (for the third game in a row) over the batter's eye in center, and also pitched two perfect innings on the mound to help secure the series sweep. It was the first time since 1996 that a non-conference opponent took all three games in the series against the Golden Eagles at Pete Taylor Park.

The Road to Omaha is underway.
Count me in this weekend:
Rotations Set for This Weekend's Super Regional Titan Rotation Features Three All-Americans
June 3, 2009
Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (45-14) will resort to its usual pitching rotation for this weekend's Super Regional with visiting Louisville (47-16) at Goodwin Field.
Friday, All-American right-handed sophomore Daniel Renken (10-2, 2.56 ERA) will take the mound for the Titans, vying for his seventh straight victory on ESPN2 beginning at 7:35 p.m. The Cardinals will counter with a sophomore of their own in southpaw Dean Kiekhefer. Kiekhefer is 6-4 with a 4.65 ERA in 17 appearances (12 starts).
Saturday's match-up will feature Louisville ace Justin Marks (11-2, 3.40 ERA) pitted against Freshman All-American right-hander Noe Ramirez. Ramierez, a winner in three of his last four starts, is 8-1 with a 2.91 era in his rookie campaign. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Tyler Pill (11-3, 3.95 ERA) will throw the "if necessary" game on Sunday (7:05 p.m. on ESPN2) for Cal State Fullerton. The Freshman All-American currently holds a 73-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio and has the most wins of any Titan on the staff. Louisville has not announced a starter for Game 3.

The Cal State Fullerton Titan's are rolling.
In the past 7 games they've scored something ridiculous like 128 runs.
They crushed Louisville last night 12-0. This kid Renken threw a complete game, 3-hit, shutout.

Well, my Longhorns eked out a win last night against a scrappy club, while Cho's club is fighting for their lives this afternoon at 2. Im DVRing the game while I head outside now for a sip and a stick, but Ill be back on here in a bit, hopefully to laugh at Cho.

Texas baseball. Kick ass. Way to storm back from the 6-0 deficit. Augie gave the pep-talk, and 10 minutes later we were tied. In Hollywood they'd send that script back as too Hollywood.

I watched a few minutes of the CWS yesterday. All they were talking about was Steve Strasburg and how pathetic the $50 million signing demand is. They really took Washington's side on this, claiming that if they offer him $13 million, that's the top bonus in the history of the draft, and how they should let him walk away if it goes beyond that.

I watched some of the Georgia State / Florida State game from last Friday afternoon over the weekend. Only caught a couple of innings, ran out of DVR space and had to clean house. Wanted to get a taste of baseball.
First play I see this year? Looping pitch over the batters head, misses his bean by about 2 feet and bops off his bat as he moves away. Stupid umps give him first, cause he does the old, ow, hit my helmet gag. Its amazing how often I see people pull this off in college. Next day I would drill the guy for real. The pitch was not even close.

While I'm sure you all saw this by now, still one of the greatest slides ever. The best part is the manager of the other team trying to argue after it happened.
