Hey, I made spaghetti and clam sauce on Friday night, using canned clam sauce. Threw the leftover in a tupperware, stuck it in the fridge. And there it lies.
Dana works late tonight. Is this spaghetti and clam sauce still good? Its only been a small spate of days. I am hearing conflicting reports. Please advise, and do not let a prejudice against canned pasta sauces cloud your judgement.

Do you count their shells?
I'm of the opinion that ANYTHING is still good as long as you have a microwave to nuke it in, and no mold has grown.

I would say your food is still edible, but you are getting close to the limit. Check out this link. It has some good info regarding how long things stay fresh in the fridge (i guess your clam sauce falls under "cooked shellfish" (3-4 days): www.pastrywiz.com/storage/refridgerated.htm

Thanks for that link....I hope others do not end up looking at it and saying, "oh, Christ, I did not realize that...."
I believe we will be reviewing our lunch-meat habits.

How long does chicken salad keep?
Clicking around from the link Dan put up it specifically said chicken salad will only keep "2 days."
How many days gone was it when BiGal chowed?

I think that list is a LITTLE bit conservative... honestly, most leftovers are good for about a week, depending on how cold you keep your fridge, how quickly you put them away and how well you pack them up...
I have tossed stuff the next day, when it just didn't look or smell right, but I regularly nibble on leftovers for 6-8 days. I mean it's a meal, not neurosurgery. There is no need for surgical asepsis.
Like we all did not grow up eating turkey for 2 weeks (or more) after Thanksgiving....

I'll never forget when I was a kid I threw away a block of chedder cheese that had some mold on the corner...and my step-dad got mad saying, "All you had to do was cut off the corner with the mold."

Yikes! - Two weeks has got to be a bit risky for poultry.
Luckily I am too much of a pig to have allowed good food to languish in the fridge for that long.

Like we all did not grow up eating turkey for 2 weeks (or more) after Thanksgiving.... My mom said when they were growing up, they didn't even refrigerate the dead bird leftover. They kept it in the oven until all the meat was picked off.

OK, THAT'S scary... but I definitely remember having turkey 37 different ways for 10 out of the 14 days after Thanksgiving, especially when I was very young, and we had a 27 lb bird for 6 people.

Damn! That's 4.5 lbs of bird per person. No wonder it lasted two weeks.

We don't generally eat leftovers. I throw everything out after 3 days tops. I never really ate leftovers growing up either. Except maybe lasagna after holidays but that would only last a day or two. And I never had two week old turkey. Ewww.
Emma doesn't really leave much in the way of leftovers anyway. That kid can eat. Last weekend she had sausage, eggs and a toasted bagle w/ butter for breakfast. For dinner we went to a party at the China Buffet and she has a slice of pizza, two strips of chicken cutlet, macaroni and cheese, french fries, tortellini salad, an egg roll, a bowl of chocolate pudding, a brownie, a bowl of ice cream and a piece of the cake (it was a christening). Then in the car on the way home she has the nerve to ask me "What's for dinner?"

Does anyone know of any Asian neighborhoods in eastern Nassau or Suffolk County?
Yeah, I'm probably dreaming, but I'm looking for a place to get Korean/Vietnamese/Japanese/Chinese food late night, after I get booted from the library at closing time, without having to drive at least as far west as Flushing.
God, I miss NJ, where I could at least get Chinese or Korean at 2 or 3 am, without going into the city!
Hey, I'd actually like to hear about ANYTHING aside from 7-11, Pathmark and diners, that is open after 9:30 pm, in the Port Jefferson/Stony Brook area. I come from an enlightened area of the world, where you can buy books until midnight and order real pizza (not Papa Johns or Dominos) until 4 am...

I turned on my TV the other day and it was set to whatever channel it is that runs old soap operas. This was due to the fact that I TiVo 90210 every day, but that's beside the point.
There was a scene in one of these soaps where an underage girl presents a fake ID at a bar, and the bartender insults her and tells her to get out of the bar. She turns around, miffed, and begins to storm out of the bar, running into the waitress causing drinks to be spilled all over the floor. The bartender, having seen this, angrily shouts at her, "YOU'RE GOING TO PAY FOR THOSE DRINKS."
Wouldn't he be guilty of selling alcohol to a minor, if she indeed was made to pay?

Under those circumstances, you could likely argue it was some sort of restitution.
