Anyone done a Broadway show lately? Read a good play? What is your favorite musical?
I have my favorite show stuck in my head at the moment (Andrew Lloyd Webber is god, and Evita is his best work,) and I'm wondering if anyone knows of some community theatre either in western Suffolk, Nassau or the city that is NOT semi-pro aspiring equity people...

Man, are we a bunch of unrefined mo-fo's or what.
Last time Dana and I got into the theatre was for Sweeney Todd, which we enjoyed thoroughly. One of my favorite events, ever attended. Before that, we had hit Wicked, which was just starting its run. I also gave that a thumbs up, and how gay is this...when I am in a bad mood I will still spin a tune or two off the soundtrack and it makes me grin wistfully.
We had plans to be back out there, down round Broadway way around now, but we have not locked and loaded anything. I think Phantom of the Opera is one of the sojorn's on the agenda - she has already seen it, but I never have, and she is convinced I would enjoy it. That said, I am open to joining her in seeing something neither of us had caught.
The only other time I can remember making it into the theatre was for a showing of "Bring Da Funk, Bring Da Noise."

Saw a musical and a play in the last few months:
1.Wicked- had great seats for this and enjoyed it. Funny take on the Wizard of OZ story though I was told afterwards they changed the ending from what was in the book.
2.Journey's End. Great great WWI play written by R.C. Sheriff(who would later on write The Four Feathers). The story is based on Sheriff's own experiences on the Western Front. Hugh Dancy, Boyd Gaines, and Jefferson Mays star with Stark Sands in this one at the Belasco Theatre. Jw

I'll start that thread soon enough.

Figures the guy who watches "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" and Dukes of Hazzard reunion shows is the one disparaging the theatre thread.

I saw Spamalot shortly after it debuted on Broadway and I found it to be hilarious. I think the fact that the initial cast had a bunch of big names made a difference. I'm sure they've all been replaced with unknowns by now.
I saw Little Shop of Horrors a few years back and found it to be overrated. A lot of people were laughing, but I couldn't understand why.
My all-time favorite was the off-broadway musical "Batboy" about the half-man half-bat from the Weekly World News. Very low budget, but very funny.

There was, fairly recently, a play based on the expolits of Frog and Toad, of all things. I really wanted to see it, but the idea went the way of the wind and I am just remembering it now. Also, former wrestling personality Johnny Valient has a one-man show that is constantly coming on and off off-Broadway, I would like to pay a visit to that.

My last theater excursion was two-and-a-half years ago: Avenue Q, which had me in tears for nearly two hours. One of the funniest things I've ever sat through.

Saw the Producers about two years ago...I liked it a lot.
It's funny...as I was reading through this I was hoping that someone had seen and would mention the Monty Python musical...and then there it was. That is one I want to see...and I'm not much of a theatre guy.

I think the last time I was at the theatre was for Mamma Mia several years ago at the Winter Garden. Fantastic show.

Did you laugh and cry? Was it better than Cats?

I laughed and cried. And I already took the whole family, so that line is out.
I did not dance in the aisles. But I did have the tunes in my head for weeks afterward, and I danced a little when no one was looking, like after posing in the mirror nude.

Isn't Mamma Mia the show that Cashman took Pavano and his wife to see? lol
The last show I saw was Les Miserables, 3 or 4 years ago, which I loved.
I, too, really want to see Phantom before it closes, and Dave promised he'd take me. TJ, you and Dana should join us!

I'm more of an Off and Off, Off Broadway kind of theatre goer.
Last show: Fatal Attraction - The Greek Tragedy starring Corey Feldman. One of the funniest shows I have ever been to.

IS Phantom due to close? Hasnt it been around for as long as the theatres have?

I don't believe it's due to close.
That said, Phantom sucks... Jw

Without seeing it or completely knowing the story I already have an affinity for it, cause 2 different gothic metal bands I listen to cover the tune, "Phantom of the Opera." Also, Maiden has a song by the same name. Up the Irons!
