Figured I would start this thread as Dana and I watch this show Monday through Friday, I know others watch it at least here and there, and some stupid or goofy shit goes down on the show.
So Friday was the first 3-way tie in Jeopardy history. All 3 contestants scored $16,000. They have since filmed a rematch which will be shown on Monday. Alex was carrying on after the last contestant was shown to bet enough to tie the other 2 yokes during final Jeopardy like Ben Franklin must have when lightning hit his kite.
A mathematician who was contacted claimed the odds of this happening were "1 in 25 million" but that is bunk, cause the leader bungled by only betting enough to remain tied with the other 2 guys trailing him if they bet all of their money on final Jeopardy (which they did) - he should have bet ONE DOLLAR MORE and he would have won the game by a dollar. Considering the majority of contestants we see get the Final Jeopardy question correct, when this guy got cute and did what he did with his wager a three way tie all of a sudden was LIKELY.

I figured this was rigged...why in the world WOULD the guy bet enough to make the tie?! Am I missing something?

Basically the 2nd and 3rd place guys, going into Final Jeopardy had $8000 each. They each bet it all, got the query right, and ended up with $16,000. I forgot the exact amount of money the guy who was winning had, lets say it was $13,400. So instead of figuring the other guys (or even just one of them) would bet ALL to double their cash, he bets just enough to tie them in that event ($2,600) instead of just adding a dollar to safely win the game if he got the question right.
What a dickhead.

he should have bet ONE DOLLAR MORE Apparently, the braniacs on Jeopardy lack the common sense that is demonstrated daily on The Price is Right. I'll take The rapists for 500!

Actually, he did an interview. He said that he bet the way he did so that everyone could have a chance at money. He was being unselfish. The cynic in me doesn't buy it.

Oh, I buy it. After the middle guy was shown to get the answer right, the goofy guy with the glasses smiled with joy, and you could see him say something to the other two. Something like, "this is going to be great!" I am sure he knew what he was doing. What a dork. I hope he loses the rematch.

DEFINITELY I hope he loses the rematch. He basically cost Jeopardy $32000.

Actually, they all are returning champions and ALL should get the $16000.
I only WISH you were right. Then it would be very funny.

I want to face those 14 year old dumbasses. I should have done that years ago, I would have been a 5 time champ. I saw one where they didn't know who James Bond is. And Alex bugs me ever sinced he shaved his stache. Fridays show annoyed me more though.

If anyone is interested in watching Ken Jennings' wild run to infamy (75 win streak for over 2 million bucks) they are rolling it through on Game Show Network at 12 noon, weekdays. Hes won a handful in a row, still a long way to go, and already I am tired of it. If you are inclined you can follow him all the way through from here.
We are only watching these GSN dailys until the regular episodes come out of repeats in a couple of weeks.
