I've been getting into Heroes via season 1. I've been saving some time late night to watch one episode from three shows: Heroes season 1, The Wire season 2, and Mad Men season 1. Mad Men is very good and the Wire is amazing. Heroes is solid, and it's growing on me, especially being a comic fan and having one of my favorite writers write it, as well as other quirky things only a comic fan will notice.

Dana and I watch Mad Men. Overall, we like it. But nothing happens.
I was so down on Heroes last year. But this year it has come back with a vengeance, albeit only two episodes in. But I am very into a lot of what is going on. The show is still too "busy" for my liking, but its really good.

It seems very busy in the first 5 episodes, so I wonder how they work in all the characters I haven't seen yet.

MTV's 'Headbanger's Ball' Celebrating 20th Anniversary With Special Programming - Oct. 8, 2008 MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball", the longest running show on the network celebrates its 20th anniversary with a bang. Beginning on October 20, "Headbanger's Ball" takes you on a hard rock journey with noteworthy interviews, archive footage from the past 20 years, a roundtable discussion from "Headbanger" VJs themselves, and many more.
"Headbanger's Ball", the hardest show in the world, which airs on approximately 400 channels worldwide, replaced "Heavy Metal Mania", helmed by Dee Snider of TWISTED SISTER fame. The "Ball"'s first long term host was Adam Curry who was then replaced by the one and only Riki Rachtman in 1990. Moving from MTV to its current home on MTV2, Jamey Jasta of HATEBREED fame took over the reigns and interviewed some of the sickest metal bands around. Jamey may be gone now, but keep on the look out constantly for special guests and the freshest videos on the web and TV. This week includes exclusive content and footage, killer music, and in-depth interviews. Some of these interviews include many of heavy metal's best such as METALLICA, MUDVAYNE, SHADOWS FALL, TESTAMENT, ANTHRAX and more.
Below are descriptions of the shows that are scheduled to air:
* "MTV Essential: Metallica" - Premiere: Monday at 11:00 p.m.
This special takes a look at the evolution of METALLICA and also catches up with the band now. New interviews discussing their new album "Death Magnetic" and also about their recent performance at Rock Am Ring festival.
* "Avenged Sevenfold: Live in LBC" – Premiere: Wednesday at 11:00 p.m.
This performance special from AVENGED SEVENFOLD's "Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough" DVD features the band's April 10, 2008 hometown show at the Long Beach Arena headlining the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour.
* "Best of Headbanger's Ball" Video Blocks - Premiere: Monday-Thursday at 10:00 p.m. / SLIPKNOT Video Premiere Saturday
Best moments from "Headbanger's Ball" will air along with classic metal videos which include the highly anticipated video from SLIPKNOT, "Dead Memories", and THE SWORD's "How Heavy The Axe".
* "Headbangers Ball" Special Anniversary Edition (2-hour) - Premiere: Saturday at 10:00 p.m.
This special is a roundtable discussion with some of "Headbangers"' most notable VJs such as Riki Rachtman, Dee Snider, and Jamey Jasta. They will discuss all things heavy metal, some archive "Headbanger" moments, and their favorite episodes. The show will also take a look back at some classic metal videos that have been featured on the program since the show's inception.

Name-dropping time.
I know Rikki Rachtman to some extent. He is a complete douche....you've never seen a more chameleon-like trend follower.
In the span of a couple of years I had seen Rachtman change his persona from Metal-Guy, to Punker-Guy, to Swing-Dancer-Rockabilly Guy (he went out and bought himself an already tricked out Impala with his MTV money, started hosting a rockabilly night at a local nightclub here in Huntington Beach and jumped head-on into that whole Swing Dancing revival culture of the 90s, with the pompadour, bowling shirts with flaming dice, chain wallets, etc...).....total poseur!!!!

Dude, do you know what he does now? You're going to flip. He is a NASCAR personality! He's over huge on the NASCAR website, and on SPEED Network programming. He's actually somewhat entertaining, and its funny to see him.
LOL @ 'the swing revival.' Big Cherry Poppin Daddies fan here. Saw em live, listened to a lot of similar bands at the time, and kinda wanted to zoot suit it up myself.
Ah, friggin' Rack. Hey, Cho, leave the guy alone, so he has all sorts of different tastes!

So check out whats on tonight. Normally I dont have much interest in these "Ghost - hunter" sorta shows, where guys traipse around with infrared cameras where the dead may roam. Its a lot of balderdash, and drags on and on.
But tonight? Im on it.
Live, from 8PM - 3AM, on the Travel Channel. Some ghost folks will be at....
GETTYSBURG! Whoo hoo. I hope they at least traipse a battlefield, and they are not just in the hospital house and such.

I keep forgetting that I am meaning to get the Electric Company retro DVDs off of Amazon. Im sure it wont hold up as well as Sesame Street did, or I would think the Magic Garden would.
Heres a cool new show coming up - they dump 5 adventurers into the wilds to retrace Livingstone's trail, with only the packs on their back. Its like Survivor, but they are not competing against one another, they are simply living like those explorers did, and filming it. They will be doing other adventure / explorer trails, uninhabited ones, and dealing with the elements and such.
I forgot when this is on, or where, but its a few months away, I will keep anyone posted.

This actually sounds pretty friggin' cool. Thanks to www.f4wonline.com for this blurb - Now this show sounds awesome. DEADLIEST WARRIOR~! (no tilde bang but it's deserved) premieres April 7th at 10 PM on Spike TV. What is Deadliest Warrior? Well, basically it sounds like a 2009 version of UFC 1, except better. Instead of boxers vs. wrestlers or kung fu guys vs. jiu jitsu guys, we will get, seriously: Pirate vs. Knight, Taliban vs. IRA, Yakuza vs. Mafia,Viking vs. Samurai, Green Beret vs. Spetznaz, Maori vs. Shaolin Monks, William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu and Ninja vs. Spartan. I am not making this up. You can see a preview video below. Even better, Chuck Liddell appears on the premiere. www.spike.com/video/dw-clip-02/3138281

The blurb above is somewhat misleading, it appears fights will be recreated, just like those old dinosaur vs dinosaur specials you see here and there. Show, from the video, seems to be like a Human Weapon sort of show, testing out the various things.

"I'll take old school pomp and circumstance HBO boxing any day!"
You and I are the only ones who think this way. There have been threads discussing this ad nauseum.
I'm still not convinced that UFC will ever supplant boxing at the true athletic test of skilled hand to hand combat....at least not globally.
To me (and I'll make this short...my opinion has not changed) boxing is still much more of a test of a single, mastered athletic skill....while MMA is closer to a weight lifting contest - a test where brute force will usually win out over a learned skill.

Most of my go to shows have dried up for the season: Eastbound and Down, Flight Of The Conchords....there's currently no Z-Rock, the IT Crowd is all repeats, True Blood won't be back for ages, who knows when Curb is coming back....what the fuck. And I don't even know if Sons Of Anarchy is coming back.
The only thing I have on TV right now of any interest is Family Guy and Man Vs. Food.....and of course baseball.
I did jump on (against your advice Tom) with Breaking Bad this Sunday. I had seen an episode or two from last year...so I'm loosely familiar with the plot. Pretty good show.
I did add the Nat-Geo show LOCKDOWN....it's hit or miss...sometimes it's ok.

Happy to see a couple of FOX offerings that we watch, Lie to Me and Human Target, have both been picked up for another season. There had been some question as to both.
Was sorry to see The Sarah Silverman Show axed by Comedy Central. Quite the quirky offering, but i was surprised to see the audience had dropped two-thirds from season one to season 3, even before Comedy Central chose to hide the show at midnight, without any replay airings.
And, finally, for you Heroes fans out there, its not looking likely the show will return. There is some talk of either a 2 or 4 hour "movie event" to flesh out some plotlines, or even a short-season run, but its not likely. NBC picked up a heap of new pilots, and seem to be turning their eyes elsewhere.

God, I hope not. Its absolutely ludicrous, and thankfully the odds of it being picked up are supposedly not very good.
The whole concept is BS - if the guy would come out and tell the truth that he makes all that crap up, fine. But he pretends his Dad really says that stuff (which includes a bunch of old Henny Youngman one-liners being recycled) and I find that disgusting and annoying.

It has been officially picked up, though there is a rumor Shatner's son on the show will be recast. It will be on CBS, this fall.
