DiPietro STOLE a point tonight. The rangers deserved the two, but the Isles really can be thankful for the 1, and try and grab 2 in the back end.
At this point, collect points however they can.
I am glad he stoned Jagr so I wouldn;t have to see him celebrate

DiPietro earned the point. The rest of the Islanders stole it!

DiPietro was awesome last night. He's the only reason they got a point in the first place. If he was any sort of consistent, the Isles would be a contender.

He's actually been much more consistent this year. And he has been "on" more often than not, and has stolen many games. He is not making those same dumb mistakes, and he is stepping up as a face of the team. And I would call the Islanders a contender, and considering what they were forecast to do by just about everyone, they deserve a tip of the glass.

I meant a Stanley Cup contender. I would not call them a Stanley Cup contender this season. A playoff contender? Sure. Maybe next year when Smyth gels and DiPietro has another year under his belt, they might be Cup contenders. And sure they deserve a tip of the glass.

I certainly agree on paper they dont have the mixings of a Cup contender, but stranger things have happened once a team ducks into the playoffs, especially if the goalie gets hot at the right time. I said long and loudly that the Islanders were not going to "suck" this year, but was shouted down (not necessarily from people around here, mind you) amidst all the laughter at the Islanders and the Snow/Smith/Dipietro contract stuff.
Islanders were picked by many and most to be at the bottom of every standing order. Things are looking ok on the Island right now.

And it certainly is nice to see the Islanders in ahead of the Rangers and Flyers.

Count me among the isles fans who thought this year was going to be a disaster, the DiPietro contract was insane, Snow and Wang were loons, Milbury was running the show secretly, etc.
But I haven't been this pleasently surprised by a team since the 96 Yankees.

Sorry, but I did not see where things were going to be all that bleak. Going by the roster alone, the Islanders improved from the end of the previous season to where they were heading into this one. So why would they tumble towards the basement, when the personnel was so improved? And for all the guff Snow took as a player heading into the GM role, its not unprecedented.

Yeah, Islanders. I just looked at the standings yesterday. They're doing pretty well for themselves. Not really much of a hockey fan but I'm glad they are ahead of the Rangers. I'd probably say that I like the Devils more than the Islanders though. Now ask me if I can name a player from any of the three local teams.

Tomorrow should be a great game to watch. It wil be interesting to see what type of game the Isles play, as in recent years they have actually been awful vs the rangers on the Island. It would be nice to re-establish a home dominance over them that we had in the early 90s.

They need to come out like the Rangers did to start Monday night's game: PHYSICAL. Hit HARD.

Take that, you bastards! SI NAMES SNOW NHL EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR In this week's issue of Sports Illustrated, Islanders general manager Garth Snow is named the NHL's Executive of the Year. SI's Hall of Fame hockey scribe Michael Farber writes: "In eight months...Snow has gone from backup goalie to SI's pick for NHL Executive of the Year." Farber cites a series of moves by Snow that have put the Islanders in the playoff picture: signing Viktor Kozlov; creating salary cap flexibility with two trades with Philadelphia that also brought back Freddy Meyer and Randy Robitaille; and adding Richard Zednik and Ryan Smyth before the deadline last Tuesday. On the Smyth deal, the article says that Snow laid the groundwork with Edmonton by approaching Kevin Lowe at the general manager's meeting the week before. "When contract negotiations (between Smyth and Edmonton) broke down 20 minutes before the deadline...Snow, after conferring with coach Ted Nolan and spending one minute on the phone with (Charles) Wang, made the deal." So much for everyone lining up to pick the pockets of the stupid backup goalie...

You're taking the word of SI, a publication that doesn't even know what a puck is?
and way to pick the executive of the year before the regular season is even over.. Jw

Hey, just puttin' it out there. And SI or no, I am sure the Hockey News will be chiming in come end of season with high accolades for Mr. Snow. Come on, you must admit the man has done a sterling silver sort of job.

Well, there is no way to condone Chris Simon's actions, and he desrves whatever he gets, but last night when they reviewed that goal in toronto, there was NO WAY they were calling that a goal and giving the locals a 3 point game, when the Habs and leafs are sitting 9 and 10 in the conference.

I'm not saying it was or wasn't a goal, I honestly could not tell, but I just knew it wasn't gonna be overturned. Funny how Dolan controled sports networks coulsn't come up with a definitive angle

Chris Simon out for the rest of the season, and the ensuing playoffs. Here is a statement he made before the ruling.
After watching the tape the morning after Thursday's game, I was disgusted. There is absolutely no place in hockey for what I did.
I want to apologize to Ryan Hollweg. I was grateful to learn that Ryan is okay and that he returned to the game. My hope is to reach out to him in the near future.
I want to apologize to my team and Islanders fans everywhere. My actions Thursday night played a major part in our team losing a crucial game. I also want to apologize to the National Hockey League for the damage I have caused this great game of ours.
What you saw Thursday is not the person, player and competitor that I am. I know my teammates and opponents over my 14 years in the NHL understand that.
I do not remember much about Thursday's incident. When I saw the tape on Friday morning, it explained a lot to me when I saw the look on my face after being hit into the boards. I was completely out of it. When I met with the media about 30 minutes later, I still was not feeling well.
I met with our medical staff briefly Thursday night and underwent a series of tests on Friday afternoon. They have told me that I suffered a concussion when I hit the boards. Because I was not cleared by our doctors to travel, I would like to thank Colin Campbell for traveling to New York for today's hearing.
I need to make clear that this is not justification for the danger I put Ryan Hollweg in and the damage I have caused the game. I understand disciplinary action will be taken.
Since Ryan is thankfully okay, what hurts the most is knowing my actions will result in me losing the privilege of being in the Islanders lineup.

Its how I would have ruled.
I dont like how Simon is kind of trying to make an excuse that he was "out of it" after being hit into the boards. Sorry, not buying.
If the Islanders dont make it deep enough into the playoffs, his 25 game suspension would carry into next year...if he is around. Islanders will most likely say goodbye, and he's probably done.

I don't buy that fable, either. If you're out of it, you get the fuck off the ice and to the bench.

I read an article on Ted Nolan a while back. He coached Simon in juniors. Basically said he was a troubled youth/adult, used to be a drunk, has a dark past, etc. Basically, he's imbalanced. Sounds like the medication wore off.

Yeah, I have seen the "he always had this in him" thing being bandied about, including allusions to his dark frame of mind. The guy has actually been called "dangerous" in a lot of places.

I missed the last game in Montreal, does anyone know is Snow was on hand, and if so, did he suit up as emergency goalie? (I'm being serious, leagure rules allow that)

I hope DiPietro isn't out too long. From the little bit of the game I saw last night, Dunham didn't exactly inspire confidence. Snow suiting up isn't that bad of an idea.

Di Pi is a dummy. Who dives 50 ft out of his net head first? Moron. Thanks for helping out the rangers ass.
