Julien out, Lamoriello in as Devils prepare for playoffsAssociated Press
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Claude Julien was fired as New Jersey Devils coach Monday and replaced by general manager Lou Lamoriello with less than a week to go in the regular season.
Will It Work Again?
This isn't the first time Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello has made a coaching change on a playoff team late in the season. He fired Robby Ftorek late in the 1999-2000 season and replacement Larry Robinson led the team to its second Stanley Cup title.
The firing comes after the Devils won four of their last five games. The team is in first place in the Atlantic Division with three games to go.
Julien guided the Devils to the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, posting a 47-24-8 mark in his only season as coach.
The move marks the second time in as many seasons that Lamoriello has stepped behind the bench. Last season he led the Devils to the Atlantic Division title after Larry Robinson resigned unexpectedly in December.
Monday's firing isn't the only time Lamoriello made a late-season coaching move. He fired Robby Ftorek with eight games left in the 1999-2000 season and Robinson led the team to its second Stanley Cup title.

As tempting as it is to knock Lou, this team won 4 of 5 but slepwalked through games Vs Boston and Philly. They have not looked good for about a month now

In a related story, Patrick Elias and Brian Gionta missed a lot of time this month, and the EGG line hasn't played together in a month.
I don't understand this move. The only thing Claude Julien has done wrong this year is play Marty too long, and Lou did the same thing last year.
