I am a racing guy, but my knowledge of Formula 1 goes to what I see on Wind Tunnel on SPEED when they do a quick recap of sorts. I am more a NASCAR / INDY circuit sort of guy, with a toe in the water of drag racing.
Perhaps I shall take a peek at this Formula 1 you speak of.

NASCAR is one of the most popular sports out there, and I just can't figure out why. To me, it's just cars driving in a circle. Yes, they are going incredibly fast. Yes, there is tremendous skill involved on all ends from the drivers to the pits. But how can you watch this for 4 1/2 hours straight? I don't get it.

Hey, even for a fan it can be a grind watching it for 4 plus hours at a time. But the advent of DVR has done wonders for my NASCAR patience, as the telecast is seemingly 40% commercials. The racing itself is fine, but I do understand how people not ingrained in this stuff can find it incredibly tedious. Dana hates it, but when we went to see live dirt-track racing, she came away with a new appreciation of the thing.
I was a fan since childhood, when I was an avid watcher of the INDY cars. I dont think I would have been so into NASCAR if I had not grown up following racing.

NASCAR does seem to be the kind of sport that would require being there live to somewhat make it decent. But even then I could see it getting boring.
I think it would be far more interesting if it wasn't on a track. Like a Cannonball Run.

Well, after the first 2 races Hamilton is in first place. Ferrari got a win thanks to Kimi. Other developments.... Felipe Massa can't get used to the rules/changes to the car and hasn't been able to finish a race (Ferrari may be thinking to fire his ass) and Renault can not give Alonso a competitive car and Alonso is not happy.

They are. Beyond semantics of such, apparently it takes a lot of exertion to handle the car. No joke. And I dont get into the athlete question much - for crying out loud, they call horses that race "athletes" in some year - end polls. AND the jockeys that ride them. To me if you are competing in a considered "sporting event" I'm fine with the athlete tag.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I'm not a racing fan at all, but driving at top speed for three hours, yeah, I'll give them athlete status.

Poker requires no motor skills. A sharp brain, but no motor skills. So I say no.

Poker requires no motor skills. A sharp brain, but no motor skills. So I say no. But it requires endurance. You have to sit at a table, sometimes for hours at a time. The World Series has like 15 hour days at the table, if you last that long...
