There's no thread on this...
It is my understanding that you can claim a player to replace someone being put on the DL, but only after Yahoo has put the little red DL by your injured player's name.
For the new people, you might want to do this if your team is locked. You can post your claim on the Yahoo page and then shoot an email/call or text to Balls. He can unlock your team and you can make the transaction whenever you get back to the computer OR he can take care of the transaction for you, if you ask him to...
DL QUESTION: If you drafted an injured player, do you need to wait until April 1 to pick someone up, if Yahoo puts them on the DL?

Good point about the DL issue if your team is locked.
Note--if your team is not locked, or if your player is claimed after telling me, you could still lose the player if I'm not by the computer. A claim like that is only 100 percent valid if placed on the Yahoo message board. Then everyone is truly on notice.
The reason for that is that a move on your team should be made by you. The exception is obviously you being by your computer, you're locked, and I'm not around.
If you are not by a computer, and have a DL move, and I am at the computer, I will do this as a courtesy.
As for someone injured and on the DL between now and Opening Day, no add/drops for any reason. The logic is the same as when you pick someone up that's already on the DL. Don't draft injured players and expect a free pick ahead of everyone else.

I also posted this on the Yahoo page...
We only have 5 DL spots. IF your DL is full, and another player becomes injured, what can you do?
Can you release one of the guys on your DL to make room, place the newly DL'd guy on and pick up a replacement player WITHOUT losing your weekly transaction?
I have not had this happen before, but I do have 5 player on the DL now, so it *could* happen...

That's actually an excellent question. It's obviously not my call, but I would say that what you are describing is a technicality and an end run around the DL rule. There's really a good argument to both sides.
You are doing what you need to do to replace a DL guy. Yahoo has a limit on DL guys which is the only reason we stop at five.
But you are also literally making a move. You're doing an add/drop.
As always, it's Tom's league, and it's his call, but unless he says otherwise, I would say play it conservative and treat it as an add/drop.

This is why I bring up the point... better to have an answer *before* you encounter the issue than have to figure it out when you have a problem... with any luck, one of my guys will get healthy before another slacker can't walk it off...
Would it make a difference if you have someone sitting on the DL, taking up space, who is out for the season?
If someone gets hurt, goes on the DL and then has a status change, like surgery, and ends up out for the season, you can't dump him for the DL space without eating a transaction, right?

It seems pretty clear-cut to me, in fact I ran into this a couple of weeks ago. I had 5 on the DL, and a 6th was DLd. I had to release a DL'd guy (G Anderson, I think it was) to move the 6th guy into the DL slot. I then used my weekly transaction to fill the empty spot, as my roster was now short a player. You dont get two adds here, that was my move.
Sorry, but I thought it was obvious. In fact, I still do...
You cant dump DL guys without eating the transaction, no.
