I'd like to have this as the one thread for discussing teams anyone may have in other leagues. Whether you are in the Section 39 league or any others, use this thread for discussion of your other teams.
Last night I decided to get into another league, because I have always enjoyed the classic 5x5 rotisserie scoring. For those of you who are not familiar with the concept, rotisserie scoring (which is the original and still most widely-used system of scoring) deals with getting points based on what place you are in amongst your leaguemates in different statistical categories. 5x5 generally means you are ranked in the following categories:
Hitting: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG
Pitching: W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP
Leagues will use these stats, or more (and sometimes less) to determine a champion. Really involves getting players who may not necessarily be the best at one thing but will help you in other categories. For instance, stolen bases are worth just as much as HRs. If you get a guy with no power and is very fast, it will still contribute to you ranking high in SBs. In a 12-team league, if you lead in a category, you have 12 points in that category. Last place in a category is good for 1 point. Gets interesting when you decide to sacrifice one area to make sure you are scoring high in another area.
Anyhow, I jumped into a live-draft, 16-team league, with 21-man rosters. Biggest league I have ever been in, and it's geared toward Broncos, Chiefs, and Raiders fans, of all things. Settings are daily lineup changes, and the roster is C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, and 5 BN spots and 3 DL spots. So here's Atwater's Army coming out of the 2007 draft:
C - Ramon Hernandez, Ronny Paulino 1B - Conor Jackson 2B - Robinson Cano 3B - David Wright SS - Edgar Renteria, Khalil Greene OF - Ichiro Suzuki, Adam Dunn, Coco Crisp, Brian Giles, David Dellucci, Luke Scott
SP - John Lackey, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Rich Hill, Vicente Padilla, Freddy Garcia RP - Francisco Cordero, Akinori Otsuka, Matt Capps
I'm going to struggle to find saves all year long, so I won't be doing much better than middle of the pack there. I believe my starting staff to be the best in the league (pending Dice-K), and my hitting isn't bad for a 16-team league. I need to go get another infielder.

I'm up and down from 1st through 4th in my other league. That tends to happen in roto leagues. My pitching is phenomenal. In fact, my whole team is good except for power. I have no power, and I'm at the point where I'm considering trading Adam Dunn and punting HRs all together. May just go with more speed and runs to boost SBs and keep me at the top.

one final note on my team/league. In a fit of rage after being mocked for drafting Teamless Jermaine Dye, Dave showed us all by then drafting....Joe Nathan. Dave also took both Scott Downs and Kevin Gregg, in an effort to get whoever wins the Toronto Closer job. Toronto closer: Jason Frasor

I hope to actually build on this thread. Was a nice idea a few years ago that went by the boards.
This year I'm in two other leagues, both are 12-team, 5x5 formats. I abhor head-to-head for baseball...tried it a couple of times, and I just don't like it. Much better suited for football.
Swingin' Dicks (2010 Minnesota Mayhem): C - Mike Napoli 1B - Prince 2B - Asdrubal Cabrera 3B - Longoria SS - Rollins OF - Granderson, Cruz, Adam Jones Util - Damon BN - J. Heyward, Beckham (who will man 2B as soon as he's eligible)
Start 2 SP, 2 RP, and 3 P: SP - Felix, Blanton, Kershaw, Brett Anderson, Scherzer, Cliff Lee RP - Mike Gonzo, Qualls, F. Morales (not for long), Chris Perez
My strategy in 5x5 is to have deep pitching in order to stream pitchers daily, so some of them will be short-term as I drop them for people starting tomorrow. The hitting is really good, so I'm not anticipating much movement on the hitting side. Batting average is decent, HR/RBI will be great, and SBs are decent. I like my chances in this league.
Will preview my other 5x5 team later in the week.

I'm just glad I found it and didn't start a redundant thread. I'm game for keeping it going. God knows everyone around me has heard enough fantasy baseball for a few lifetimes. That's a good looking team, looks a lot like the rotisserie team I'm drafting tomorrow night. It's a keeper league, 4 bats, 4 pitchers. I kept Rollins, Longoria and Granderson, and Lee is one of my pitchers. Draft is tomorrow night, I pick 6th. Manny is available. Tempting, even though I expect a decline, off the juice. also looking at Billy Butler, not sure if he'd make it back to me...not even sure if he'll make it to 6. Carlos pena is an option, but I've been hurt before by big power low average guys. maybe on the backswing. If Butler's gone, I'll grab Bourne and lock up top 3 in steals

just finished up my 5 X 5 Roto Draft. 8 keepers, 4 hitters, 4 batters. I kept Rollins, Longoria, granderson and A. Hill, and for pitching, Haren, Tommy Hanson, Cliff Lee and Billy Wagner. start 10 batters (2 DH) and 10 pitchers each week
C Soto
1B Butler Konerko
2B Hill (K) Sean Rodriguez
3B Longoria (K)
SS Rollins (K)
OF Granderson (K) Bourne Gardner Cuddyer Maybin
DH Burrell
SP Hanson (K) Lee (K) Haren (K) De La Rosa Liriano Norris
RP Wagner (K) Chris Perez D. Marte (Appearances are one of the 10 categories, not WHIP, so a guy like Mart is very valuable) Mejia Neftali Feliz Drew Stroren (potential keepr for next year, when we keep 5 and 5)

FYI, I don't love the head-to-head format, either, but being in the league gives my husband-to-be and I something else to not talk about ;-)

thanks for cutting napoli. I scooped him up and he had a nice 31 point week for me. Now he';s trade bait with Carlos Santana up. Lotsa wheeling and dealing going on. Just closed on a Aaron Hill (got) for David aardsma (sent) swap in a points league, was offered and jumped on Adrian Gonzalez (got) for Cliff lee in a 5 X 5 roto league. I'm running away with wins and K's, while lagging big time in HR's and RBI's especially. And I just proposed a 6 player trade including one of my top bats and a closer in exchange for a young but bust so far in 2010 OF and a former ace, whos struggling, plus a DL'ed slugger who may end up missing the whole year but is worth a flier

BTW, looking at my draft, I could kick myself in the ass for taking Granderson in the 3rd with cano out there, and Vazquez in the 4th while Ubaldo jiminez did not go until the 8th
