Every once in awhile, I'll look at the points scored from pitching to date. So far, pitching has been the difference maker for several teams.
Laura's pitching staff has been utterly putrid. Suzy and Knoblauch have the two top staffs in the league. Here are the overall pitching standings:
Suzy--503.67 (16-6, 3.24) Knoblauch--491 (17-7 3.00) Capone--471 (19-8 (4.57) Justin--454.67 (14-7, 3.52) Pops--404.33 (13-11, 3.75) Evan--400.33 (13-9, 4.02) Neil--397.67 (9-9 3.99) Larry--387 (16-12, 4.11) Tom--355.33 (10-16, 3.64) Milton--338 (11-8, 3.14) Jose--324.33 (13-13, 4.53) Laura--242.33 (10-19, 4.60)
I think that by looking at the ERAs, some teams have been hard luck, and some teams have been lucky that they had offenses bail them out. Capone has one of the highest ERAs in the league, but has the most wins. That could mean that he is primed to tumble a bit in the standings as the baseball gods even things out.
At the same time, Tom's team looks to be pretty damn hard luck. His team has one of the worse W/L records in the league, but he has one of the better ERAs. If his wins catch up to the ERAs, he should look to rise in the standings.
Milton seems to have the worst luck of them all. He has the second best ERA in the league, and it's phenomenal, but he only has an 11-8 record.
Mariano's dismal April also killed Milton. He has the fewest saves in the league.

I must be doing pretty good there, to be where I am in the standings with that garbage pitching record.

Just in case anyone thinks Tom is serious, Larry's claim doesn't count. DeSalvo will eventually be put on waivers and then you can try to claim him. I would expect that to happen within a day, but either way, he's completely up for grabs for the whole league.

By the time the claim goes through, he will be safely enconsed back in the minor leagues. But, by all means, have fun!

If he does, he will come back to Earth, I'm sure. For now if he is needed to keep a spot warm, good for him. But some of you guys seem to think we stumbled upon the Rookie of the Year here.

tom. i certainly dont think he will be rookie of the year. but he will be starting on the big team for probably a month. and he WILL DEFINITELY get a start on saturday. i was taking a flyer on a yankee starter. with that run support, not a bad idea. besides, he would be 9th on my depth chart and never see the light of day. and i had a dl move to burn. you talk like you are mr baseball. why cant you EVER field a quality team. oh thats right, you were 2nd loser in 2002. how can we forget that?

I am in fourth place overall, in postion to make a heap of noise....
....with a pitching record of 15-22.
I am tied for FIRST IN MOST LOSSES and tied for LAST IN MOST WINS, and I am in a great position. Not only does it speak tons for my hitting, it shows I am in a very good place for when my pitching inevitably turns around.

My D.L. staff um pitching staff really sank my team. with Randy Johnson , Adam Loewen , Kenny Rogers & Curt Schilling all doing stents on the D.L. Along with Ortiz & Carlos Beltrán having off years put my team in a hole.

So check me out. I finished 3rd overall, while being the ONLY member of the league with a sub-.500 pitching win-loss record.
A pretty putrid 69-75 record, and I nailed 3rd. Not only that, I had the most losses (by 4) and only one team had less pitching victories (the Best of Both Worlds, with a disgusting 66) - guess pitching was not one of the Worlds they were best in.
To show you how wacky these pitching records got in terms of where the teams placed, a 74-53 Win-Loss only helped Country Club's Finest to 11th place overall.
I was also second to last in strikeout points from my pitching staff.
But my consistency across the board, especiallly with a fine hitting team (that actually did not pace the league in any one category) gave me my top notch showing. Also, I pitched in bad luck, my team ERA was on the top side of the middle of the pack, even with those losses.

But you finished third.
Not champion Not second
Third. Yet you continue to remind everyone of this fact any chance you get.
Congratulations on finishing.. Third.

Still put a healthy amount of cash money in my pockets, Jack.
Yeah, and while we are at it, congrats on finishing last the last time you were around. Good job there, quite the accomplishment. Hope you enjoyed your time off!

seriously. you werent even first loser. you were second loser. you got back your investment in the league. and you are walking around like you accomplished something this season. yea, if 3rd place is an accomplishment to you. well, congratulations i guess. but your team was rubbish with that pitching, which you were talking smack about in april. i told you your pitching was SHIT. you touted them as "the shit". i guess they were just shit after all, huh?

Again, my team pitched in bad luck. Despite the worst of the win-loss records, my ERA was middle of the pack, my saves were near the top, and my other pitching numbers were all servicable. My pitching was called "hard luck" all the way back in early May on this board.
Got more than my money back, but thanks. Won a session too. No team was hotter than mine for the last 2 months of the season. Sure cut the deficit between our team by 300 points in a hurry, going from 500 behind you to like, 200. You're very gracious off the board, but i understand you have a role to play on here, you are doing a good job.
Why dont you spend more of your time ripping into the people who deserve it, the bottom feeders. Oh, by the way, congrats on losing that thing you grasped on to with both hands for way too long, the best overall team marker. Congrats Suzy!
Oh, and Laura, one more time - see ya.

grapsed onto with both hands? $1,000 was $1,000 to me the same as it is to suzy. i dont need the most points of all time moniker. i got the cash bitch!
fwiw, my pitching also hit a lot of hard luck in april and may led by andy pettitte. it really doesnt change anything. its called an excuse.
perspective is a funny thing. tj loves to go on and on here how good his team was to grab 3rd despite such atrocious pitching numbers. and he pats his team on the back for accomplishing being 2nd loser despite shit pitching. when i look at as, shit, if i couldve just gotten myself some half assed decent pitching i couldve taken this league. way to settle mr brown.

Not settling for anything. But cant change what was, now. I am simply enjoying the fact, that despite taking the normal heap of crap i take no matter what I do around here, I finished in the top 3 for the 2nd time in 3 years. I have won my fair share of money in this league, I dont need no speeches from the likes of you. First loser, second loser, who cares. Nine teams finished behind me. You dont like it, tough titties.

While it's not appropriate to discuss league finances on a public forum, I'm fairly certain that if we check the ledger, you have actually lost, and not won.

As have 90% of the people who have ever played in this league. This is a very tough league to come ahead, and you know it.
I guess I play fantasy different from all of you. The money I pay in is expense for my time. Its almost like buying the baseball package for the year. Anything I win becomes MY MONEY. Money to throw around, to spend.
Everything I won this year, while not a heap, will give me a lot of joy. I have a whole cabal of things i am buying. Its free money. I dont consider the "money i have lost" anything I have lost. Its money I have to spend in order to waste the next few months doing crap like this with idiots like most of you.
Its residual.
