Ladies and gentlemen...children of all ages...
We enter the final session with an amazing, outstanding battle for third place in progress...
We have a three way contest. First, fighting out of the blue corner. At about 5 foot 10, and weighing close to 170 pounds, the mailman who already claimed victory and lost 150 points in the standings since....
KNOBLAUCH!!!!
In the green corner, weighing in at 200 pounds more than when you first met him...banging tin and hoping to cash in....trying to support the baby he has been carrying for 9 months....
MILTON!!!!
And finally, out of the red corner... a man who needs no introduction in the civilized world.... a man who invented the phrase liquid lunch... weighing in at 6.9 tons...a man who only loses weight because his hair is falling out.... he's plumpy... he's bumpy... and most of all, he's grumpy...
SHERIFF TOM BROWN!!!!
Three titans.
Two weeks
One prize....
Who will win? Going into yesterday, Tom had a 1.67 point lead on Milton, and a 16 point lead on Knoblauch.
Round 1 of 15 goes to Tom, who piled on 81 points. But Knoblauch and Milton didn't have slow nights either, with Milton getting 55 points and Knoblauch getting 59.
But Tom now has a 27.33 point lead over Milton and a 37.67 point lead over Knoblauch.
Of course, it wouldn't be a session without session coverage. How about that Laura? It's obvious she is going to be relegated and how does her team respond? With SEVEN points.
But Tom is in the lead right now:
Tom--81 Knoblauch--59 Jose--57 Suzy--55 Milton--55 Pops--49 Larry--43 Neil--41 Capone--28 Justin--23 Evan--20 Laura--7

Round two of the battle for third once again goes to Tom, who has now opened up a 52 point cushion over Knoblauch and a 64 point advantage over Milton. Tom is leading the session too, which means his team is heating up at the right time--not unlike the 2006 Cards.
Tom--146.67 Evan--111 Knoblauch--110.67 Suzy--99.67 Larry--93 Milton--84.67 Capone--83.33 Neil--80.67 Pops--80.33 Jose--73.67 Laura--59.33 Justin--44

My team has been "heated up" for the last month. A strong 3rd last session, and a close 2nd the session before that. We all know where I was a month ago, so close to the bottom I was given speeches about how lucky I was Laura was hanging around in this league. Anyway, its a fight now, and I hope to win it.

Round 3 goes to KNOBLAUCH, who outpaced his rivals with 58 points. Tom didn't exactly roll over, scoring 44 points of his own. Unfortunately for Milton, he had 2 losses last night, and only managed 23 points. Tom still leads the pack though, with a 38 point lead on Knoblauch, and an 85 point lead on Milton. If Milton doesn't mount a comeback soon, he will die. Well maybe not, but his chances will be the exact opposite of his physique. In other words, slim.
Tom--190.67 Knoblauch--168.67 Larry--146 Evan--141 Suzy--138.67 Pops--135.67 Neil--123.33 Capone--113.33 Justin--112 Jose--108 Milton--107.33 Laura--93

Round 4 goes to Knoblauch, who had 34 points to Tom's 10 and Milton's 26. On a full night of baseball, neither Knoblauch nor Milton could truly capitalize on Tom's bad day. But Knoblauch has cut Tom's lead to 14.33 points, and Milton is now 69.33 points off the pace. Tom has two starters going tonight, Knoblauch has none, and Milton only has one reliever that even has a game. So this is a good night for the Sheriff to regain some lost momentum.
Knoblauch has overtaken Tom for the session lead, but only by a small margin, and remember, this session is one day longer than all the rest. Knoblauch doesn't just have to beat Tom, he has to beat him by 16.33 points or more to claim the prize.
Knoblauch--202.67 Tom--201 Larry--194 Evan--186.33 Suzy--183.67 Laura--159 Pops--156 Capone--150.33 Neil--145.33 Justin--138 JOse--137 Milton--133.33

Make that BOTH contenders. Dont see Milton mattering much in the grand scheme of things the next week and change, no matter how much Larry slobbed his knob.

Milton really is coming up small right now. Final session, starting 1.67 points behind, and he's in dead last while his competitors are running 1-2

So Tom, despite getting no wins from his two starters, wins Round 5, outpacing his rivals, who had a lot of people off.
Milton's hopes are fading, as he now trails Tom by 97 points. At least he has 2 starters going tonight. Of course, they are starting against each other, but the way things are going, the bullpen will get the win. Milton will have to beat Tom by over 100 points in the last week, which is a daunting task.
Knoblauch is also starting to fall behind, as he is 39 points off the pace. But that's not impossible by any stretch.
Meanwhile, Larry is sneaking up on the session.
Tom--241 Larry--221 Knoblauch--217.67 Evan--198.33 Suzy--186.67 Laura--185 Pops--179 Jose--170 Neil--166.33 Capone--163.33 Justin--161 Milton--145.33

We're through Round 8, and DOWN GOES MILTON. Tom is on fire in the final session, and Milton is on the canvas, a good 126 points behind Tom. What started out as a joke, has turned into a disaster. Meanwhile, Knoblauch is also on wobbly legs as he is a good 82.33 points out. It's looking like Tom will be finishing in the money, to the chagrin of everyone except Tom.
Meanwhile, the numbers in the session are kind of strange. Tom is leading, but there are some serious bunches after him. Suzy, Larry and Evan are separated by less than 2 points.
Then you have Capone, Jose and Laura exactly tied, with Justin just 2/3 of a point behind them. Behind THEM, Knoblauch and POPS are tied. Weird.
Tom--371.33 Evan--344.33 Suzy--343.33 Larry--342.67 Capone--314 Jose--314 Laura--314 Justin--313.33 Pops--299 Knoblauch--299 Neil--254 Milton--247

And there you have it folks, winner by KNOCKOUT in the 9th round, Sheriff Tom Brown. I can't say how disappointed I am at the sheer roll over and die attitude of Knoblauch and Milton. When this session started, Knoblauch was 16 points out and Milton was just 1.67 points out. Milton has since lost over 150 points in the standings. Knoblauch has lost 100 points in the standings to Tom. It's pathetic.
These two people should be ashamed of themselves. There is virtually no chance that Tom will lose now, barring a 1964 Phillies level choke.
And Suzy is looking good right now to dethrone Larry as the Champion of Champions. She just needs to average about 31 points a day to reach the previously thought untouchable mark of 7695.67 points.
Knoblauch and Milton though are the real story. Tom is having a very good session. He's even in first place. But his stepping up is just overshadowed by their stepping aside. Awful.
Tom--443.67 Suzy--409.33 Evan--409.33 Larry--407.33 Pops--394.67 Laura--380 Capone--352 Jose--345 Knoblauch--344 Justin--337.33 Neil--294 Milton--287

Well, as I told you last night, it was as much as a choke and gag as a steamroll through as my team has been exhibiting for the better part of a month now. 2nd a couple of sessions ago, with a score that would have won just about any other session. A strong 3rd last session. And look at me now. By far the hottest team of the last month and change.
I'm a little sullen this morning cause the Giant pen blew a 2 run lead in the 9th and cost me ANOTHER 12 points. But, it is what it is. I am by NO MEANS declaring victory here, although I am more comfortable with Knoblauch's team chasing me than that of many others, as his starting pitching is complete and utter garbage at this point. He needs 40 point days on the hill, and he has like one guy that can possibly do it for him. Problem is, he may need 3 of those days.
Milton is a disaster area. Forget 3rd, the guy could possibly finish 5th or 6th. Disgusting, but Larry gave him the kiss of death. I hope you two idiots are happy. Why dont you go have a GM meeting, whine over me finishing in the money again (despite the fact that NO team has more pitching losses and I believe I am tied for least wins) and go make love to one another.

At some point, I will definitely look at pitching again. But Tom is the only team in the league at this point who is under .500, and that's not going to change between now and the end. He's 66-73. Even Laura is currently 70-69.

The only thing left to really pay attention to now is who wins the session, which is looking like Tom, and whether Suzy will dethrone Larry as the Champion of Champions, which is looking very likely. Suzy needs just 94 points to tie, and 94.33 points to bring it home. At one point in the season, she was way ahead of Larry's 2005 pace, but after a few sessions where her team was average at best, she entered Session 13 behind where Larry was in 2005. But her team is finishing strong, and she needs just to average 23.5 points a day to take Larry out. With a good night though, she could end it today.
It has been speculated that Milton's collapse could alter his destiny from being a contender for third, to finishing as low as 8th. In the end, your place is what matters on draft day when your name is called. Where do you think Milton will finish?
Tom--503.67 Suzy--470.33 Pops--449.67 Evan--445.33 Larry--437.33 Laura--416 Capone--400 Knoblauch--393 Justin--385.33 Jose--385 Milton--325 Neil--309

Look, forget Milton for a second, he is not even worth talking about. If I was him, I would lay pretty low. THAT is a choke. And here you got Knoblauch complaining that his pitching "choked" it away. Eh, sorry Jack, it was more than your pitching. My team has now outscored your team SEVEN nights in a row. You have choked, top to bottom. When it came time for you to represent, you slinked away.

Not much movement going on with a lot of off days yesterday. Tom is cruising along and with a 45 point lead, should take the session. Suzy is marching on the path toward history. The slow night last night is of little concern as she is just 79.33 points away from being the new Champion of Champions. She needs just 26.45 points a day to grab that title, so don't expect Larry to remain on the throne for much longer. Sabbathia is taking on the Royals tonight for Suzy, and Cole Hamels is on the mound against Washington for the Phils. It could be over tonight.
So there's not much left to play for, except the surprise fourth prize.
Tom--531.67 Suzy--485.33 Evan--481.33 Pops--462.67 Larry--450.33 Laura--446.67 Jose--424 Justin--420.33 Knoblauch--419 Capone--414 Milton--348.67 Neil--329

So my team outscored Knoblauch's sorry squad for the EIGHTH night in a row last night. Absurd. It may even be MORE, cause I only started monitoring this eight nights ago. Way for the High Hard Ones to step it up, and upset everyones apple cart. Nice to see the overalls, and my team hanging around 200 points behind Larrys. Considering I was close to FIVE HUNDRED under 45 days ago .... WOW.

Nothing ever shocks me when it comes to getting beat. Known as "the mush" I yet again have found a way to manage my team out of the $ for the 2nd straight year. I am highly dissappointed that just like last year when things were looking good, my pitching completely let me down. Im going to take the high road and not make any remarks to tom's comments about my team falling apart. Congratulations to Suzy for making a team that was just too good from the start to finish. Congratulations to Larry for getting in the $ yet again. Congrats to Tom for making a great comeback and passing me by. Well done sir. I am already looking foward to draft day next year which as strange as it sounds is one of my favorite days because of the competition battle and being with you guys and gals. I promise you this.....IM NOT FAILING NEXT YEAR! Good 07' year.

Knoblauch, you are very gracious. You are one of the few in this league that will show that sort of class. Thank you for that.
Dont beat yourself up too bad, it takes two to tango. As much as your team spit the bit, my team has been an absolute juggernaut. To beat me you would have needed to win this session, and going on track record, you were not going to do that.
No team has been remotely as hot as mine has been. So yeah, you choked a bit, your pitching really let you down, but my team at the same time was kicking you around. I have been that good. Fact, not opinion. Check the numbers.
If anyone choked, its Milton. He should have just saved himself the trouble and benched the team. Way for him to show up for the last session. Disgusting.

I think both Knoblauch AND Milton should be ashamed of how their teams played in the final frame. What was set up to be an exciting photo finish turned into a laugher because neither team bothered to show up. 9th and 11th in the session. Horrible.
Tom's team deserves it though. It's not like he's running in 8th place and just winning because the other two sucked. But both Knoblauch and Milton should hang their heads in shame.

Am I the only one who was bowled over by the irony of this statement?
Another awful year for me in Section 39 fantasy baseball. It seems as though this league has passed me by, at least at my current level of preparation and research. I haven't won a single dollar for the past 2 seasons. No way for the two-time champion to carry on.
It seems to me that the three top finishers deserve to finish there. Suzy absolutely housed everyone this year, though I expect nothing less from someone who is paid to know sports. Phenomenal draft, and it really wasn't a contest after that. Larry...what can I say. The best player in this league, though Suzy may be giving you a run for your money.
As for the Sheriff, well....it seems like he has finally learned how to play fantasy baseball. All the "years of experience" really didn't amount to anything the first handful of years in this league. But once Tom realized that an issue of Baseball America from 2-3 years ago means a hell of a lot more in fantasy than this year's issues, he has flourished. Certainly not a runaway for third, as he was fortunate enough to have the hottest players down the stretch. But there's certainly no arguing with finishing in the money two straight years. Congratulations to you, sir.
As for me, it's time to start thinking about my future in this league. I have every intention of playing next year, but I really need to put forth an effort. Every year I have put in almost no effort in this league. And twice, it seemed like a winning formula. I think that has as much to do with the fact that the rest of the league really just plain wasn't any good at fantasy baseball. But that has changed. There is a host of worthy fantasy players in this league, and I am the one who has fallen off the pace that I set. I promise, one way or another, that will not happen next year. I look forward to the challenge that has been set forth by the league, and I will meet that challenge.
Congratulations to all of the money winners this season, and I look forward to returning to prominence next year.
And Jose....I told you your team fucking sucks.

Excellent post, but one minor flaw. Tom finished in the money in 2005, not 2006. In 2006, he finished in 8th place. Tom seems to either be at the top or the bottom in his history. He has finished 2nd in 2005 and barring a miracle, will finish in 3rd in 2007. However, when not in the money, he has never finished higher than 7th.

Thank you, Justin. You spoke warmly.
I did not finish in the money last year. It was 2 years ago that I finished 2nd. Last year, middle of the pack, leaning towards the bottom.
No matter how I did it, I did it. How I did it with the least pitching wins and most pitching losses....thats just, wow.
I have been quick to congratulate some past winners in this league. There are only a couple of people in this league I have no use for in terms of recognition, cause they dont have any for me.
I am glad you are in the league with us, and I think you help set the bar. I look forward to next year, carrying some of this over, and getting my bottle of good whiskey from Jose at the draft for cleaning his clock.

That won't happen.
Well, it appears to have morphed into a two-horse race for the session. I find it aggravating to score a bulging 89 points, only to have Suzy counter with 87, to stay nipping on the heels. Everyone else took a fold.
I went into yesterday with a 45 point lead. Its now 47. 2 days to go. 47 is not lock, stock, barrell. I would like to win the session, otherwise I finish in the money this year without doing so once.
Also, here's a laugh - like a week ago Knob-job was hoping for 3rd place glory. Well, right now I am closer to Larry and 2nd place (162) than Knoblauch is to me and 3rd. (180 points)
Both Knoblauch and Larry have collapsed.

Today's stats are unofficial until I get home and make them official on Excel, but odds are they will be identical.
The season is over as today's game will not count as part of the standings. I think Yahoo sucks for not doing that since this is a regular season game. But you live by Yahoo, you die by Yahoo.
First and foremost, congratulations to Suzy for not just winning the league, but for becoming the Champion of Champions. Her total of 7780.67 is a new record. Let's see how long it stands. What makes it more impressive is that every year, the people in this league have another year of experience under their belts, so no team should end up so stacked. Yet it happened. And Suzy did that with the 10th overall pick in the draft. I guess she can thank Knoblauch for not taking David Wright with pick #9.
Knoblauch took Chris Carpenter--a questionable move even if he DID stay healthy.
Larry, the preseason favorite, lived up to the hype, and it took a devastating year from Suzy to not capture the gold for the second time. Last year, his point total would have been about 10 points out of first. Still, the silver in this league is nothing to sneeze at, and when Larry sneezes, mountains cave.
As for third, the bronze goes to Tom this year, who grabbed it and session 13 with authority. Going into this session, Tom led Milton by 1.67 points and Knoblauch by 16. Yet only Tom stepped up to the plate as Knoblauch and Miltion had piss poor sessions. Milton lost over 250 points in the standings to Tom in Session 13. Awful. But again, a lot of that was due to Tom having a great session.
That leads to the session where only Suzy managed to even make a run at Tom. Here are the unofficial standings for Session 13, and barring a math error of titanic proportions, Tom gets the nod.
Tom--703 Suzy--649.33 Larry--586 Evan--583.67 Justin--577.33 Pops--567.67 Knoblauch--530.67 Capone--528 Laura--514 Jose--500 Milton--447 Neil--394.67

I guess I will wait until things are official to make my long-expected speech. Its well deserved. I take a lot of crap in this league.

Neil was predicted to finish 11th at the beginning of the season. I'm currently looking at my predictions on certain players'.
I made predictions on 26 players. Injuries affected some, like Harden, but while I'm not done yet, I was only way off on Weaver. I'll give Tom credit for that one. He was right.
