I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had a chance to write this. I have a small window here to do this, so here it goes:
I had a great time this year and winning certainly helped that. I was really hell-bent on winning this league. I wanted to put a good performance in my first year. I studied on the plane to and from Vegas and mapped out the players I wanted. I couldn't happier with the team I drafted. Most of thhat team were the players on the final day of the season.
First, I would like to thank Knoblauch for drafting Chris Carpenter. I figured he woud have taken either David Wright or Miguel Cabrera and I would take the other. I lucked out with Wright who scored about 90 more points than Cabrera this season.
I would also like to thank Justin for not taking Prince Fielder earlier. I had my eye on him and was more than pleased to get him.
I want to thank Shane Victorino for hustling last season and showing me he would make a great addition to my team.
Congratulations to Larry and Tom. Larry, you put a scare in me for a while. I won't lie. My three best pitchers decided to hit a bump all at the same time, which was when your team got hot. Thankfully, they all got back on track at the same time. For that, I thank them.
MSB, thanks for taking care of the board and the sessions. Job well done.

Good deal. Your check was mailed yesterday, so hopefully it will arrive soon.
Now you get to see if you can do it again next year. I still can't believe Knoblauch picked Carpenter. I really thought he was joking when he made that pick.

Kind of when Laura picked Brad Lidge? Or Chone Figgins?

I would have to say Lidge was a worse pick. Figgins was horrific, but not a first rounder, so it's really not in the running. It was a terrible pick for that round though. Had Knoblauch taken David Wright, he would have had somewhere between 150-180 more points at the 3B position alone.

was carpenter hurt when knoblauch picked him?
i have no problem with carpenter being a 1st rounder. ive had him and when he is healthy he is a top 5 mlb fantasy pitcher.

I don't think he was hurt yet. In fact, I'm almost positive he was not. In THIS league, it doesn't make sense to pick a pitcher first round unless he's THAT much further ahead of the rest of the pack. Santana was a first round worthy pitcher, but I don't think anyone else was. David Wright got 693 points at a weak position. That's the 5th best in the game. The top 2 pitchers got 575 and 544 points.
Only one other, Brandon Webb, got over 500.
It's a tough call, but I think THAT early, you should grab the player you think will get you the most TOTAL points, no matter what position.
If you can get a great point producer at a position that's weak, all the better. That's why ARod is such a great pick.

Your logic is skewed.
You get a guy who is going to score more points at his position than most, if not all, others.
If Carpenter pitched to the 2nd-5th top scorers in that starting pitching slot, how would that be an awful pick? Those points go to the guy who drafted him, other players are left with pitchers in that same slot who score less points.
I dont think you understand fantasy baseball. You dont compare Carpenters point totals with David Wrights. You compare them with other starting pitchers.
It backfired this year, but it makes sense when you consider why he did what he did.

That's an interesting question. Knoblauch cheated himself out of at least 150 points with that pick.
If you go by preseason ranking, the next best pitcher after Carpenter was Oswalt. Oswalt got 351 points this year--still well below Wright.
Knoblauch's starting pitching was horrible. He might have added a lot more points to Knoblauch, but only because Knoblauch drafted lousy pitching after Carpenter.
As for not understanding fantasy baseball, believe me, you are wrong there. I beat the dead guy.

A little too late but congrats to Suzy, Larry and Tom. Tom, you lucky bum, you got me back. I'll have your bottle on draft day.
