1. The League is now open for business. Check your emails for your invite.
2. For the first time since 2004, Tom has approved a change in the scoring system in this league.
In reality, these changes were approved when the league was created in 2002, but due to Yahoo's limitations, we never could put in the category.
There are still some limitations though, which I'll get to in a minute.
The first and most important category approved in 2002 was the BLOWN SAVE. By adding this category, it increases the magnitude of a reliever blowing a game and more important, counters a flaw in our system where a reliever can get more points by blowing a save and getting a win. This also further helps distinguish the elite relievers from the mediocre ones.
A blown save will be worth -3 points.
Next...
In 2002, it was approved that a no hitter and a perfect game were allowed as categories. Given the rarity of them, and the accomplishment, it was agreed that a nice bonus was to be awarded, beyond the Shutout points.
We have an approved total of 20 points for a no hitter, and 30 points for the perfect game.
So, happily, Tom approved all three categories, and when I tried to put them in, I got an error.
We can only have 15 pitching categories, and the three new ones put us at 16.
After some talk with Tom, it was decided that we will bump the no hitter to 25 points and drop the perfect game.
No changes were made in any existing categories.
So the no hitter is now 25 extra points, and the blown save is a -3.
